I do a similar thing with a power bank & Luminlapse. Powerbank attaches via straps to a tripod leg & I have put some velcro tape on the luminlapse that sticks to the its counterpart tape on another tripod leg. Works well, & cheap as chips.
@ShayneMostyn that's cool, cause i also sent an email and a report lol, my exchange was great, and my girls 16pro, but now my girl updated 18.2 and got the blue issue added, and im afraid to update, its visible in her astrophotography now lol. Sorry to rant, but maybe if enough of us can tell them they can take it away if they can add it ya know lol
@yea, it’s pretty wild, but if it can be added in a software update that means it can be totally fixed for sure, just have to hope they listen and remove it in an update. With this issue resolved, iPhone 16 pro would be the best phone I have owned so far. Appreciate your help, have a blessed day!
The iphone wont go into 30 second mode unless its stable and still (i.e mounted on a tripod or rested against something) if its knocked at all it;ll revert to 10 secs. I use the delay or a bluetooth shutter release so it doesn't get knocked at all. So to answer the question the phone alone in a cage won't give you 30 sec mode unless it's mounted/placed on to something.
@@ShayneMostynMany YT vids on how to add a HDD to the iPhone and its Files app. Videos and images using SanDisk and Crucial HDDs. Thanks for the video.
@@ShayneMostyn Yup, it would be great if we could shoot direct to an external hard drive but it only works for certain types of video shooting, not still photos. So, once done we have to copy/move them out of the Photos to Files & onto an hard drive.
It’s a good set up, with the exception one of thing. The lumilapse has a constant red power light on when plug in. This could interfere with the picture . I recommend maybe a a piece of solid tape blacking the light out
Shayne, could you tell them that they’ve just destroyed my iPhone’s ability to take astrophotos with the new update (18.2)? My iPhone was showing a perfectly dark image with your test BEFORE the update. I was one of the lucky few who had not been experiencing blue lines on their 30-second long exposure images. Now, the photos are so ugly I can’t believe I paid that much for a phone that shoots this kind of pictures.😖
Cool setup. Happy new year
Cool setup!!! I am waiting patiently for my Lumilapse in the mail! I know it takes a bit to arrive! Looking forward to finally giving it a try!
Would love to see an analysis video on when it'll makes sense to switch from this rig to a dslr/mirrorless setup
Thats a great idea mate. I will do that.
You are a legend! Awesome!
Cheers mate
Same here, had blue streaks before update, now after the update at high iso the whole screen is blue..

My iPhone 16 pro max has huge blue blobs in the night photo. Do apple help ?
Same with mine after the last update 18.2.
Im seeing that in the FB group. I will be emailing my apple contact about this.

@@willbelial3775 Its bloody nuts mate. After all that I went though, only to find the update has caused issues for people that didnt have a problem.

Is there a link for the power bank?
Thank you for the great videos.
What is what’s look as a filter adapter on your iphone cage?
Does the cage help you get 30 seconds night mode?

Hi is it worth buying the even longer app without pro membership for star trails? Or you need the pro membership for this?
You can still do it without Pro I think. There are just some format and saving options you wont have.
How would you do all this with an external hard drive so you don’t fill up your iPhone with pictures?
Hmm, Im not sure you can save images directly to HDD. Only video. I havent tried it, but I dont think you can do it.

@@victorcarmelo8606 Yes you can move them manually, but not directly from the camera app as you take pics, like we can with video.

How do you get 30 seconds during the day? I have it on a tripod.
Close your eyes mate. Durr.
@ cheers. I’ll try this tomorrow.
@@ShayneMostyn Hi, I tried this. Unfortunately I don’t know if it worked or not as I had my eyes shut. Is there a way to tell?
Is this lumi lapse device also compatible with Android devices like the pixel 8 Pro that use the USBC port?
No mate. But you can use the intervalometer app to do the same thing.
Okay, thank you! 👍🏻
Are you talking about your local Canadian dollars?

You are joking right? 😂
