^^ This x 1,000,000. ^^ A lot of people who have eating disorders die because they can't get a diagnosis. "Your BMI is still to high and you don't LOOK anorexic..." It goes overlooked completely too many times because of the ridiculous "guidelines" for having an eating disorder. You don't have to be 80 pounds to be anorexic.
I'm 18... when I was 5 i started ballet, 15 i developed anorexia and its ruined my life.. Not eating and being 'perfect' was ALL i could think about, my dance school has a party the first day for the concert.. At the party all i did was practice my solo... Critical of every hand movement etc, and I thought i was also jumping round so i was losing weight... Now I don't dance at all.... It was my passion and dream I had to leave behind... i quit mid last year. Miss it, Its such a sad life... x
This movie gives a great lesson to many people who just think a classical ballet dancer has to be in the bones. And that is not true. I used to dance classical ballet and I was over weight. Of course I know I could never be a principal dancer because it would be very difficult for a partner to lift me. But I did dance on toe shoes and got to do many if not most of the movement classical dancers do. it all depends on the strength you have on you ankles knees and legs. An overweight person cannot do everything that is done in classical ballet, but that doesn't mean he or she cannot do ballet at all.
Alright, that makes a bit more sense. It does seem odd that they characterize it as needing a specific trigger such as being a ballerina or dancer or such. I'll agree that it was a bit harsh on the part of the movie, but I don't think they meant anything malicious by it. Lifetime movies always end as sappily as possible, albeit very unrealistically 3/4 of the time.
i remember in 5th grade i told my mom i wanted to be a dancer and she told me that i was have to be skinny like those ballerinas...i never became a dancer but ive i wont say suffer or battle cuz ive gotten reward by my weightloss but in a few months im getting committed in a recidential ed place for a month...ED are no joke..ive been so up and down with the scale...i like this mom in this movie..she cares alot...my mom tells me im fine wen im very open with her unlike alyssa.
i love the mom im a dancer and im 120 and i will forevr be that weight because dancing is something you do because you love it and its something you enjoy
omg that is so funny bout 'the leg' lmaooooooo looked like a ham hahah. she had about as much grace as a cow. i kept waiting for her to show some classic talent nada lmaoooo
@tripurity it's a MOVIE. My Goodness. Anyway...even if this was real, this illness is incredibly serious and NEEDS addressing. This illness kills everyday, and it is horrible in the dance world..so yes, it WAS indeed appropriate to have her in the ending of this performance.
that's not what i meant. i simply meant eating disorders are stigmatized as privileged illnesses by plenty of people who haven't been educated about them-- such as my own parents, at least until i went to residential. it just bothers me that the film seems to suggest that people merit special needs by virtue of being prestigious dancers, because i've met lots of women who had far more ordinary lifestyles, but went broke paying for treatment because they were still really, really sick.
Tell me about it. She looks healthy. That is the point. She is supposed to look healthier than what she was when she was on the stage of the ballet that night
does anyone else have a problem with the idea of the 'ballerinas-only' treatment scholarships alyssa announces?...eating disorders already get enough stigma as "privileged illnesses", none of these made-for-tv movies do a whole lot to dispell that misconception.
hey guys wots wiv the the neg comments. It's jus a film - they have to go by wot they they research. there is not one single way no suffer!. its so much more complex. I'm sure you all now this. It#s not all txt book xxx
"Privileged illnesses"? I want to say I can understand where you're coming from, but find me one person who develops an eating disorder for the sake of getting free passes in life. While Lifetime movies aren't especially realistic (besides showcasing actual problems, the endings are sometimes downright pitiful), that's like saying that a person who develops cancer doesn't deserve the help and support they get. No one chooses it, God forbid someone stands behind them in recovery.
lifetime sucks. look at the situations they put the dancers in on dance moms . it's scripted but alot of the time the put the girls in stressful situations to cause drama. this film was also rediculous. ive danced ballet since the age of nine and never met the personalities portrayed in this horribly made movie.
I love the "Dawson's creek mom" Its nice to see her in a film every now and then.
Wish I could find the recital song, it was beautiful made me think of the lion king!

The song is called "Corrente" by Adiemus.
At least she didn't miss much. The performance was crap :P

happy endings! :D
In the end when you saw her in the mirror that was just how she saw herself i think. Her body was bigger but her head was the same.

Lol at her leg in the last 10 seconds
was that doctor lady shrink jenn in "just between friends"?
the little blond girl isn't she from that other lifetime movie 'homeless to harvard' lol i never forget a face.
@tatulover2120 This film came out in 2001.
Is this a ballet created for the movie? 'Cause I'd love to see the full original if there is one...
13:12--So true! :)
i wouldn't even go so far as to call it "harsh"...just myopic. that's' why i pointed it out.
@ALExXxRUSSOofAN
That's definitely her.
Can you say me someone please what name the ballet or song is where in they are in theatre. Thank you..
At the end of the film her thighs look huge.. shes's bigger than she was at the beginning of the film wtf?!
enyone who knows who sings this song
do they only have one song?
They don't make movies like this anymore...normal topics
I rather enjoyed this movie.
was this recently on tv?

Does anybody know the name of the ballet they're dancing?
To everyone that says she does not look anorexic....keep your opinions to yourself and let us other people enjoy the movie!
They're ignorant idiots like the jerk director.
does anyone else have a problem with the idea of the 'ballerinas-only' treatment scholarships alyssa announces?...eating disorders already get enough stigma as "privileged illnesses", none of these made-for-tv movies do a whole lot to dispell that misconception.
What an impressive feat! This is literally the worst eating disorder movie ever and the worst ballet movie ever COMBINED IN ONE.
my god she reminds me of my ED therapist....
I wish I saw what everyone is talking about with her leg at the end. I see nothing wrong with it.
hey guys wots wiv the the neg comments. It's jus a film - they have to go by wot they they research. there is not one single way no suffer!. its so much more complex. I'm sure you all now this. It#s not all txt book xxx
Wow all these commenters saying things about her "big" leg must be very insecure about themselves...
I mean know this
its the pressure to please to be perfect its too much on any1!
So she didn't become a ballerina after all?
"Privileged illnesses"?

13:42 Wtf is wrong w/ her leg ?
lol she got a solo & got to dance with the corps, but she wasn't the principle
hahahahahahhahaha
"When I WAS an anorexic"?!?! YOU ARE ALWAYS ONE! Every day you struggle with it!
7:48- they farted while dancing
9:53 whats with the dress lol if they where playing with green screan bahhahah so funny and terrible

Bad acting. Worse dancing. Great watch.
Is it just me, or does that dress not look good on Alyssa at all? There's just something...off about the top.
so cheesy
Way to blame ballet.
Nobody is blaming ballet fool!, They're blaming bad directors like that guy who encouraged anorexia and gave false ideas to those girls.
13:09--13:11 My favorite parts, that's a true meaning to other girls. :)
