Loving this, as a fan of Carnatic music and alsoRock I can say this is cool! Also, are you using standard tuning fo the lead or a Carnatic or other tuning?
This Thyagaraja kriti is meant to be sung/played with devotion. Saint Thyagaraja sings this in agony because he could not see lord Rama's face and questions the lord for not understanding his plight. Contemporary musicians play this with all finger picking techniques, drums ,and every other bells and whistles, in the name of fusion ,to appeal to younger audience. But they forget that the very essence, .i.e. the Bhakti rasa is missing. Mandolin Srinivas and Guitar Prasanna created their renditions of this krithi which did not miss the Bhakti rasa . Decent attempt here but not truthful to its meaning. Play the song with Chittashuddhi.
Firstly thank you for listening and leaving your feedback. I really appreciate it. I am a student of Sri Guitar Prasanna sir and I completely agree with you on the meaning of the song and the context of it. An interpretation and experimentation like this (in choice of instruments, sound and approach) is not for the traditional listener. To say it should be played only a certain way…I strongly disagree with. We all make choices based on our likes and dislikes. It does not make one thing right and another wrong. I think there is room for everyone in music. Just because I or someone else played a song a certain way does not mean the traditional way of performing the song needs to change. I enjoy that too and regularly perform traditional Carnatic Kutcheris. In fact the very reason why i do this series of videos called “Fusion for purists” is for traditional listeners who have a hard time with any “non-traditional” performances of our music. This has kept our music isolated and far less accessible to wider audiences. In these songs/videos I have made no melodic compromises in gamakas or talas while still harmonizing the songs using western music theory and western instruments. I would love for you to check out other videos of mine under this series. Here is the link to the playlist. ua-cam.com/play/PLt0dv_tJt13qxwhPjSTPvxkxhLZfhd_Q-.html Would love to hear back from you.
Nonsense. It's all in your purist mind. I love the way they interpret the ragam and play it with such skill without deviating from the essence of aberi.
Don't be so selfish. These younger generation people are interested in our traditional music but want to play in a different instruments, so that others can enjoy this.
