I love that Raphael has the humility to admit he's mostly a songwriter and uses the guitar as a tool but shines a light on Eric so he can really play it. Awesome!
Yeah man! THAT is art in the making: Musicians communicating with their playing & sharing their conversation with the world. Mr Saadiq, kudos for being such a down-to-earth personality - SO RARE to see these days! Mr Gales...some of your chops tellin' me there's the vibe goin' on! And thank you for your ability to surprise. I have just watched this vid the 3rd time - and each time I'm more amazed by the delicacy of these little moments, when your playing interlinks & connects to Raphael's chords creating an intensity that is more than the sum of you both playing together! This form of understanding and the resulting goosebumps - that is why I picked up the guitar. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE MOST INTENSE VID OF ANY SIG-GUITAR DEMO I'VE YET SEEN!💯❣🤩
Eric is a beast of a guitar player. He should be in the rock and roll hall of Fame. His skills are amazing and technical. He is definitely one of the best I've ever seen.

Loving Fender’s embrace of great, relevant Black guitarists with their signature models: Raphael, H.E.R., Steve Lacy, mononeon (bass)… who am I forgetting? They’re not the typical “guitar heroes” but they’re powerful forces in modern music. Music has changed in the past decades and I’m glad Fender is keeping up with
Raphael has always surrounded himself with great guitarists including the late great Spanky Alford, Jubu Smith, Nick Moroch and Josh Smith. He may not be known as mainly a guitar player but he absolutely deserves this. A soulful cat when he does play guitar and a diehard Tele fan, in addition to being a helluva good bass player. (Signature P Bass next?) Congrats!
I disagree, I love Raphael too but, I think the signature guitar thing has been overdone. I think a signature instrument should be different from a stock instrument in more than cosmetics.
@@Dnell-tb1yd: Hearing ya. Out of honest interest though, may I ask why you think so? And, just imho, "overdone" reached its peak with that blatant Bruno Mars sig. THAT was a cringe moment for me....
@@Maxy-K I totally understand why companies especially the larger companies make signature products. It’s all about advertising and marketing. Fender is probably the worst offender, it seems like any artist that has a little fame or popularity gets a signature instrument, even it means basically slapping their name on a run of the mill guitar. Sadly PRS seems to be following that trend.
I met Eric in Detroit at one of his shows. He was genuinely a wonderful person. After completing a blazing set he took time to meet and greet everyone in the club. What a treat! Congrats to Raphael on the new axe. Bravo.
Go listen to the guitar solo at the end of PWA Instrumental by 5th Ward Boyz. Played by Joe Bythewood Jr, aka JB Money. IMO, it's probably the greatest solo ever played on a rap or r&b song. Joe was incredible. He's no longer with us today. Bless his soul. He played with all kinds of people. 5th Ward. The Isleys. All kinds of people.
Saw Raphael in 2019 show, and I saw Eric Gayles a month ago. They both know how to bring the heat live. Eric Gayles plays guitar like he's gonna launch into space

Hey folks. For the record and all of you saying it. Hendrix did NOT play it strung like Eric Gales, Albert King , Doyle Bramhall II etc. He played a right handed guitar restrung lefty 99% of the time. But if he was at a jam or trying out someone’s guitar he could play like Eric etc but most times a righty strung left handed. Nut changed , bridge and intonation adjusted and he bent and sometimes shortened the whammy bar. Cheers. 👍🏻✌🏻
The Telecaster formula love keeps getting stronger every day and every time. He says 'middle pickup' when he means the middle 'position' and both Rafael Saddiq (suh-DEEK) and Eric Gales play both pickups of this position so doggone good... and DAMN good too!
He is legit playing that guitar upside down... I'm just thinking about chord shapes, scales (pentatonic, etc...), the cage system ... and how you'd have to train your way of thinking to play them upside down.
He was the lead singer of Tony, Toni, Toné. You’ve probably heard his music even by accident. Like, “Do you know what today is? (It’s our anniversary)” or “It never rains in Southern California”

I’m glad that all these artists are getting their own signature gear but perhaps they (Fender) should slow down on the signature instruments.
