He's definetly one of my favourite from among the Maiar, and I don't even really know why. I just like the idea of Eönwë as a sort of counterpart to Sauron, complete with him successfully leading (and personally defeating in some accounts) the downfall of Morgoth, in contrast to Sauron's failure to fully defy the Valar.
I like the idea of Turin being the one to deliver the finishing blow to Melkor. There's something cathartic about a man who was cursed to a miserable life striking down the 'god' that cursed him.
My favorite Maia is Melian. But I like Ëonwe as well, he seems like a nice guy. I think that among Maiar you can find more interesting characters than among Valar. Especially Melian, Gandalf, Arien, Eönwe, Radagast and Sauron are quite interesting.
Yeah, I really like how Melian has quite a 'human or elvish' feel. Her own personality and history make her seem less like a spirit, since I suppose we can connect with and understand her motives better :)
@@GeekZoneMT Yeah, Melian is wise like a goddess, but she is portrayed more human-like. I always love to read that chapter, when she met Elwë in Nan-Elmoth. It is so poetic. Btw. do you have plans for more videos about Greek mythology?
Eonwe is pretty cool, but I think Osse is up there next to him for me. I love how Osse has mood swings and likes to cause chaos, yet absolutely adores the Teleri elves and their singing. The only time I don't like him is when he unnecessarily kills the friends of Voronwe and tries to kill Voronwe too when they were trying to return home. Thankfully Ulmo spared Voronwe who is one of my favorite elves. So glad Voronwe also survived the fall of Gondolin later.
I like reading about Osse, he was prone to be violent unless Uninen showed him some love or Ulmo told him to pipe down. He loved elves something fierce tho.
eonwe is definitely my favorite maia, but my all time favorite character from tolkien is fingolfin and i'd love to see a video of his life until his ultimate battle with morgoth himself
Eönwë is definitely among my favorite maiar but the top position belongs to Olórin, a.k.a. Gandalf, Mithrandir, Tharkûn, or Incánus. If I was going to pick anyone to take down Morgoth at the end of the Dagor Dagorath, I would choose Aulë, as a kind of payback for corrupting two (one indirectly) of his maiar, Mairon and Curumo.
Ohh that would be interesting! I wish it was someone related to Feanor tbh, as a sort of redemption for their actions, and a way to avenge all of the hurts Morgoth inflicted upon their line :)
@@JACKAL98 In the context of the Dagor Dagorath, the best known version has Túrin Turambar killing Morgoth. That's even more implausible; Aulë was one of the most powerful Vala. But Tolkien decided not to finish the story so we don't know how exactly that would have happened.
Olorin is my favorite Maiar. In case someone doesn't know this name he is also known as Gandalf by the Hobbits and others of Middle Earth. Thank You Karl, for this lore video.
You're welcome buddy! Yeah I agree, Gandalf is probably the most popular Maia by far, though it would be interested to see why anyone would prefer some other Maia over him :)

My favourite Maiar is Mairon. He may be evil, but with scarce resources he had, he achieved more than any other Maiar. This is truly admirable. Additionally, he has the best lore of all Ainu in my opinion. IMO he is the best written character in Tolkien's works. It is a pleasure to read about him.
A great video as always and lovely to see you doing the narration again. I find your voice very relaxing and your knowledge and love of the lore shines through.

I didn't know tulkas took part in war of wrath. Still it would make sense that eonwe was the commander in chief of the army of the west for not only was he a great warrior, he had to have been the greatest tactician for the valar to put so much trust and authority in him don't you think?
Great video as usual. I'm happy with Eonwe's role as it is. I know the story but it's always a pleasure to hear it again. I'm so impressed with the depth of Tolkien's world. I fail to see the importance given to Turin Turambar though. I never liked his character and his story.
Morgoth cursed Túrin's father, Húrin and that played a role in Túrin's fall although Túrin contributed mightily to that all on his own. I figured it was a way of getting Túrin payback for all the wrongs Morgoth committed against his family
The armies of the West were mostly made of Vaniar a.k.a the fair elves a.k.a the light elves, practitioners of songs of power, wearing armor made by Aulë the Smith that reflected their own light and at their hands, wielding mighty spears that pierced darkness in a terrible way. Leading them was Ingwion, prince of all the Elves, son of Ingwë, and at his side was Finarfin, High-King of the Noldor, third son of Finwë, leading the remnants of the Noldor a.k.a the deep elves, that didn't follow the foolish Feanor or the honourable Fingolfin to ME. Although the Valar were not capable of producing children, the Maiar are able to do so right? This is evident when Melian, a Maiar, married Thingol and gave birth to Luthien. So is it possible if some of the other Maiar in Arda were born during the ages of Middle-Earth instead of having already existed since the beginning of time?
If you look at how the union of Thingol and Melian came about... it seems like divine intervention, a once in the universe's lifetime event. (Unless Radagast sired the Beornings by having an affair with a Northwoman)
Maiar don't need to have children. In my opinion, I don't think Maiar can be created by anyone other than Eru as he has the flame imperishable to create. Melian had to take physical form, which eventually became permanent due to being in that form for so long, to be with Thingol. Since Thingol is an elf, a human like being and not an angelic being like the Maiar and Valar, he would naturally desire to have children. Either Melian was able to make herself physically enough like an elf to be able to conceive and carry a child, or Eru who did have his hand in things, gave her the blessing to be able to do so. Another thing that pops in mind, Tolkien was a devout Catholic. Angels don't need children and would be unable to do so as only God can create more angels. Plus, the gift of sex was only given to men so a man and woman could unite themselves in holy matrimony. This may be the case for Tolkien's world. Only the race of elves and men, and the adopted children dwarves, were given the gift of sex. Much like Crafty Spirit already said, the union of Thingol and Melian was a divine intervention from Eru. A once in a lifetime event. Like how Tuor is the first and only man with absolutely no elvish blood in him, became an elf through the powers of Eru.
