Wow all the hate in these comments! Too many of you people seriously don't understand true musicianship and artistry if you can't understand that they probably got tired of performing their most popular song the same way over the years...whether you prefer the other version or not, at least respect the fact that they admittedly enjoy constantly tweaking their music and just having fun with it. I personally, enjoyed the little change of pace....while this one doesn't have the weight of the original, it's still damn good.

Just because the original is so good, and it's a masterpiece, is no reason to hate on this, they're just trying something different as artists do, it's part of being an artist. The original will always remain forever on the album, there's nothing wrong with them experimenting. I like it, the original is my favorite song period, but this is cool.

This version is awesome!!! I love the original but I really really like how ironically upbeat this song is for such somber lyrics. Brand New is amazingly awesome. :D

I like this version a lot, the folky feel gives it a new energy and an almost more optimistic feel, but I love the TDAGARIM's version as well with its dark, beautiful feel. Either way, I listened to both versions relentlessly.

This song is purely amazing. Songwriting at its finest. I don't think I've had a song on repeat this much since Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Maps". I wish I could find an mp3 of this Daisy session recording, sadly there's nothing even on iTunes :(

i think he's spot on, its more than the technicality of each song, its the way they present it as well, i dont know if i've ever seen a more passionate performance than kevin devine atgdb, and although i havent seeen brand new yet, i know that jesse puts every fiber of his being into every performance, which in my opinion, is way more impressive than writing a super technical song

Jesse Lacey your lyrics hit my soul with the impact of a comet attacking the earth, so violent and peaceful, beautiful in its its own designated journey. A collismic intercourse of violent passionate rage and peaceful serenity. Take me away from this planet I do not belong to.

On a side note.... In my opinion, this song (album & acoustic version) is VERY reminiscent of Modest Mouse's album 'Moon and Antarctica'. If you haven't listened to that album, DO IT. It seriously changed my life. The motif for that entire album is a lot like this song: desperately trying to figure out the meaning of life and attempting to come to terms with what happens afterwards. Pretty cliche topic, I know, BUT just how Brand New beautifully describes it in this song, Modest Mouse's lyrics

I wouldn't say that Jesse is better than Kevin. I definitely love Jesse's music more, but that's because every song is fucking amazing. Kevin shows a few songs that show that Jesse's not better than him, though. Jesse just has more songs that show that. Kevin just writes more folk-sounding music, which I still like, just not as much as Brand New's stuff. When he writes a heavier song or something that fits along the genre of Brand New I fucking love it about as much as Brand New's music.

they're not talking about how easy it is to perform, they're talking about the true quality of brand new's emotional and lyrical skills. so uh no they're not giving them too much credit lol. i'd like to see you write a song half as emotionally inspiring as jesus christ.

@BonneauZ28. Techincal ability is such a small part of making great music. The lyricism, musicianship and creativity is far more important in my opinion.
It's like when someone makes a simple piece of art and people say "well, I could've done that". The point is they didn't make it. The idea and creativity behind it is what makes it a work of art, not the being able to make it part.
I mean, I'm sure lots of people can perform Jimi Hendrix songs. Doesn't mean they're as good a musician as he was.

The slow, melancholy feel of the original is the reason I like the song. Not saying I hate this version, but I do think it takes a bit of the emotion away from the song. Props to them for trying new stuff, though.
