Hi, do you give lessons?
I do help learners to drive. At the moment I am full
I struggle with these spiral roundabouts. I think the lane signs need to be further back from the roundabout to give people chance to work out and change to the lane they need. Thank your for the videos they are a huge help.
Hi You are correct about the signs needing to be earlier.
Just use sat nav or get familiar with the area
Same, I'm a experienced driver and still hate these roundabouts
@@AE-cj8ch Not an option to get familiar with an area if you're just driving through. Learning to use a spiral roundabout is the best way to deal with a spiral roundabout.
True...
Hi there...you're a star...I've been watching your videos and i have passed for the first time with no minors/faults. Thanks so much for your wonderful videos will still keep on watching and learning.
sachi 2016 that's a great pass. Congratulations and safe driving
Thank you. I passed today. I've been watching all your videos. I watched this video many time. Spiral round abouts are my biggest fear
Congratulations on passing
I have my test in 2 days, spiral roundabouts and the lane discipline on these I really struggle with
OMG driving shouldn't be this difficult. No wonder traffic in this country is a nightmare.
I failed my test last week big roundabout I don’t like 😱 your VDO so helpful thanks X
just I passed my driving test
your all videos help me a lot
thanks
+Abu Sayed congratulations on passing
Learn-to-drive Travis
thank you
Did a proper lesson on a spiral round about my coordination was a bit crap. Thanks for this travis👍
really really helpfull lesson on wensday i have a test.
Thank you Michael for your kind comments. Yes UA-cam does help pupils to research on driving.
+James Travis hi so if there are lanes on the roundabout... as long as you are in the correct lane, you dont indicate?
Hi, yes you do signal to tell other drivers your intention. So if you are exiting you signal left to come off. If you are moving from the right lane to the middle or left you would be checking and signalling to come across.
+James Travis but i thought the lanes lead you off? so if indicate people think trying to change lanes
+Gazman997 you signal to inform others that you are moving across lanes from right to left. So coming off the roundabout would need a left signal
Oh i understand sorry aha thanks James
16:41 - your middle lane splits into 3 (lanes 2 3 and 4) where lane 2 can go to the 3rd exit along with the car on the left in lane 1. Lanes 3 and 4 becomes lanes 1 and 2 after passing the 3rd exit, and you took lane 1 for the 4th exit if I understood correctly. Still good to check left mirrors, ive had situations where people from lane 1 (using this example) which should be taking exit 3 cut across 2 into lane 3 while I was in lane 2 trying to take exit 3. Ive seen people going around the entire roundabout in lane 1 cutting off cars at multiple exits in the process.
Yes other drivers do go round in the wrong lanes. Extra mirror checks
Thank you for your videos. I'm starting to understand bigger roundabouts a lot more. The only part of this video which confuses me (and I know would completely throw me if I were driving it) is the very last section of the video at 16:40 where you came across to the far left lane. Once you're there, I know that it makes sense to be there as I can see FEN written on the road. What I don't get is how did you know to move over? I feel like I might only realise just as I get there and then it's too late. What if you need to move over into that lane but there are a lot of cars in that left hand lane?
Hi, with lots of practice it becomes easier to understand. Coming across to the left at the end is what you allergy do but because you are on larger roundabouts it always either makes the pupil who is learning nervous or slightly unsure of what is happening. I ask my pupils to practice counting the exits. You know that at some point you have to move across to the left, so it is about planning it. You will also get other drivers who even though they have passed the driving test will still get it wrong. But as you become better at them you will spot the drivers who are not as good and avoid the problem.
Agree. Moving across at the end would confuse the hell out of me. How common are these type of roundabouts?
You tend to get these sorts of roundabouts when lots of major roads meet.
Learn-to-drive Travis
Can we change two lanes at once (16 min )!!!???
I thought you move one lane each time you pass an exit !very confusing 😱😡
Thanks for the video. I often hesitate and get nervous about coming across two lanes in one go like you did around 16:53. I guess nobody should be on your left continuing round because the previous lane to the left was only an exit lane and does not permit continuing? Always first check of course.
I also wish the lines showed a left turn marker only for their next exit, rather than a strait line arrow, but maybe it just takes getting used to. Cheers
Yayyy congratulations for hitting 30k! Am so happy for you, your channel is great 🌷🌷🌷
Thank you. I will thank you and everyone for the support
@@JamesTravis we all thank you for all the help you give us, you make driving easy. Thank you Travis
I am finding all your videos very useful as i am taking driving test on the 6th Jan 2017.
Mines in January too! Nervous to say the least
Best of luck on ur driving test.
Good luck Mark
Best of luck
Mark Rowley thank you, same to you!
1:58 You just gotta love how lane position information is issued this late on the approach. LOL!!!!
Yes
Very helpful useful video. Your instructions are very very good. Could be even better and clearer if you could pause the video for Roundabout signs and crucial sign on the ground.
Thank you
Thank you for watching and your comment
thanks for amazing videos, really helped me a lot, just bought you coffee also, honestly you are star, xxx
Thank you for watching and for the coffee. Safe and happy driving
Who else is watching in 2024 , am glad i found this channel, am beginning to understand roundabouts ❤❤
Safe driving
I'm an American planning to visit the UK this summer. ^_^ Today I started considering the idea of renting a car vs. taking public transportation to save money, and thought I should start to research traffic laws and driving in the UK. This video is super helpful, but also makes me think I better stick to public transportation lol.
I've driven a lot in the USA -- including through lots of roundabouts-- but the final exit at 16:42 had me a bit baffled. I would have instinctively thought the furthest left lane would be able to exit to the left (as the car next to you did), or go forward to the left lane that you continued into....I definitely need to watch more driving videos! :S
You guys can read roundabout signs really quickly! I know I'd have to slow down and try to figure out which exit I would need, but I guess that would make people behind me mad. x_x
But thank you for your videos! They really help. =)
Katy Adelson hi, I have given refresher lessons to people who can drive but are outside the uk visiting. I would recommend you arranging an hour lesson with a local instructor in the area where you are going. This will help you to adjust quickly. Good luck and enjoy your time in the uk.
Over a year of driving and still don't understand multilane roundabouts. Evil things
I failed my test last week because the examiner took me to one of these evil spiral roundabouts 😐
You are SUPERB!!
Thank You!!!For making this helpful video.
Cheers
+vishal giva great
Hi know this videos a few yrs old but you’ve done a good job explaining . I hate these types of roundabout; I also hate the ones that have got the same route in identical lanes . I need to go Milton Keynes to practice I think 🤔
Thank you for watching and your kind comment. Safe driving
These videos are incredibly helpful, you explain things in a similar way to my instructor.
Thank you!
Thank you for watching
Hey travis. Your videos helped me a lot . Thank you so much for all your videos . At 2.32 you use middle lane for Leighton buzzard and move to left . I failed my exam same roundabout I got serious for taking middle lane move to left . Because left lane was also going straight ahead.
Hi, did you follow the signs for Bedford ?
I was going Bedford where both lanes go straight ahead but I use middle lane then move to left . I got it now . You need to stick to your lane
hello. If you are in Sheffield, please record a video from Middlewood test rout thank you
Hi, I hope I get a response on this. Given the complex nature of these roads, how often do examiners use this route as they seem rather very busy all the time?I am told in rush hour they avoid these busy roundabouts. Is that true?
It would be really helpful to see the change from from Aylesbury A4146 to Bedford on this roundabout. This has a two lane entry into the roundabout which breaks into three on the roundabout and I would love your view on this. The lane markings once on the roundabout in the middle lane say A5 ahead only and it appears you have to change lanes to find the left hand (lane 1) Bedford exit. Is it correct to go from RH lane entry into RH lane on roundabout and then move to left after the A5 Exit ? Do the markings treat the Bedford exit as a RH turn given that there are two exits in advance of this, even though it is in a straight ahead direction?
That is an interesting one. I will record a video on that section in the next couple of weeks.
Can i take 3rd lane to go Aylesbury at timr 8:48 cuz is much easier i dont need to change the lane 2 times ????? Plss need the answer cuz i have the exam tomorrow
My understanding is that the signs say use right lane. But I have been told in conversations that examiners are happy for you to use the 3rd lane as long as you don’t drift.
I prefer left lane, left and straight over and right lane, right and right around
I am always confused on these kind of roundabouts even If I am using the Navigation. This video educated me a lot specially about the lane numbers. I have never noticed the lanes specially driving on the roundabouts. I hope this time I wont do mistakes and will drive in the correct lane. Thanks Travis, I was wondering to know if you have ever made any video about how to use the Navigation system or google Maps? Kindly let me know please.
+Syed Junaid Zaidi hi, sat navs is coming in the next month
Thanks for the update Travis. I can't wait :)
Hey travis. At 3:48 there is a roundabout 1 st exit is left and second exit where lorry is going and you are doing right turn 3 rd exit or 4 th exit . I am so confused on the exit
There is only 3 exits. I was doing a U turn taking the 3rd exit
Soooo helpful!! Thank you 🙌
+Iona Shields happy to help
Hi Is it a must to indicate on a roundabout controlled by lights? For example to take 4th exit at the spiral roundabout, u indicated right on approach? Thanks
I teach my students to show a signal so everyone knows what you are doing.
If you don’t signal, you might forget to signal to exit which would be a driver fault.
What about the Kelly’s kitchen roundabout onto Brickhill. I got beeped at. What lane should I have started off, entering from the same road you took. I I hate this roundabout.
It depends which way you are coming from.
Starts to get tricky at 6:54
Hey travis . The speed limit on 0:04 is 40 mile an hour then after roundabout its changed to national speed limit . Is it still changed or same
At roundabout it became 60 mph to turn left, 40 mph to turn right.
Thank you so much
Was the black car in 9:03-9:06 in the wrong lane?
That’s a good question. If you know the area then you know the lane the the black car took will be ok to use.
But I based the video off what the roundabout signs are asking you to do. Most drivers will use the signs to guide them round roundabouts they are not familiar with.
If it was on your driving test route, then I would use the signs to go round.
Thanks for your reply. I just to slow on the roundabout so I can see the sign😊
Many thanks.
Thank you for watching
Great video thanks
I know this is an old video but … my local area (where I’m doing my test) has infamous spiral roundabouts a couple with very poor signs (coming up late/close to the roundabout) so you don’t get a lot of planning time… not super helpful when learning. I understand the concept of spiralling out to the exit I need. My issue is I often miss the secondary sign on the run up to the roundabout, the one that says which lane you need for the destination (eg, left lane, middle, right followed by the road number) I scan the road on the lead up to the roundabout, these lane signs are tiny compared to the ones in this video lol 😂 it’s catching me out… Any tips please?
Best tips would be:
Get used to going ahead and left before you attempt rights.
Then keep practicing it
That's was superb....hopefully I will do well for my exam...
Good luck on your test
hi at 7:29 why are you not positioned on the left hand side? thanks
Action Mayne hi, it was a right turn on the roundabout. So I came over to the left when exiting.
Learn-to-drive Travis thanks for the reply. would there ever be a situation where someone was in that left lane, preventing you from coming over?
If you were driving slow and a car was driving onto the roundabout at a faster speed then they might try and undertake you on the left(this can become dangerous). If you see this developing then you might have to exit into the right lane.
joining motorway do i must signal right please?
Yes in the UK
2:10 if it says middle lane on the board, why do you cut across to the left lane once you're on the roundabout?
The middle and right lanes on the entrance can both go ahead and the left lane goes left only and disappears off to the left first exit. So as you enter the middle moves across to the left and the right moves across to the middle(at this point both go ahead and exit onto a dual carriageway.
@@JamesTravis ohh so although you're moving over to the left, it's still technically the middle lane as the left lane has disappeared into the left junction?
@@misstangshan95 yes, it’s your carry ahead lane
@@JamesTravis thanks for clearing that up. Does this rule apply to any kind of roundabout where the left lane filters off before the roundabout? So if you're wanting a right exit and you get on roundabout in the right lane but a new right lane spirals out from centre, You would not manoeuvre-right over into it unless you want to perform a u-turn? Basically just because a new right lane appears once you get on, it does not mean this lane will be for you? So pretend that is where the kerb is.
On a spiral roundabout, yes. Sometimes local roundabouts to certain areas might be slightly different to fit in all the exits.
How should we use indicators at 4 exit roundabout when the route ahead (2nd exit)is towards the right instead of being straight
+sunil kumar look at what the lanes are telling you on approach. It could be middle lane and no right signal.
Thanks Travis.
at 9:10 why would you cross to left lane, when both left + middle lanes (where you already are) are heading the way you want? You say you've got a truck right behind you; if he's that close he's probably itching to overtake, and moving left at this point is teasing him to come through on the right and end up squeezing you at the lane merge if his truck's not got the oomph to do it. I'd far prefer to merge-in-turn once on the exit road than faff about changing lanes unnecessarily in the midst of a roundabout (especially a lights-controlled one where there's already enough to think about without changing lanes in traffic.)
Hi, I crossed to the left lane because it was clear. The HGV was following behind me on the same path.
You are right to say it is ok to use the left and middle lanes to exit on that exit. But if the left is clear, I use it. Hope that helps.
@@JamesTravis i got the same question, you suddenly changed your lane just before the exit.
thanks for this, very helpful!
As a new driver how can I recognise apparel round about ?
A quick tip is they do tend to have lots of exits
When changing lanes on the multi lane roundabout do you need to signal?
I mean when your actually on the roundabout itself
No if you are moving across with the dash lines.
OK thank you very much
please more videos about a 5
hi ua-cam.com/video/ACQ8O_J8wFw/v-deo.html
Thanks nice
Looking at this I did a u turn on my moms road a small roundabout. The guy behind must of thought what she doing beeped me. I thought I am not doing anything illegal. Lol
these make sense until it’s rush hour and people are staying in the wrong lanes confusing you
These are my worst nightmare I can’t stand these spiral round abouts
I failed on a spiral roundabout, with 1 minor. Just don't understand these rounabout
They do need practice to be able to handle them.
Still don't understand omg noooo
Crimson witch
Me neither.I passed recently, the spiral roundabout can be a nightmare for me. Where I live they isn't a lot of them but a few, hate it. I'm fine with other roundabouts but the spiral roundabout, just seems confusing to me!
The spiral roundabout is a nightmare and I don't understand the point of this concept. Compare it to a dutch turbo roundabout, multi lane roundabout of similar capacity without lane changes in the roundabout.
Rules for turbo roundabouts are very simple. Choose the right lane before entering, stay on your lane. Maybe your lane splits if it's a complicated one, but no merging or lane changing in the roundabout.
Nightmare. In northern ireland there is a roundabout called balls of the falls it's awful. Even experienced drivers struggle to understand it
Love the name of the roundabout.
They can be very tricky roundabouts
make sure to giveway on Roundabouts
h I will
Omg I'm never going to be able to drive ...
+Crimson witch they become easier after practice. Good luck on them
The copper was probably on the phone to his wife, discussing what to have for their tea.
