Hi Kory, the yard is going to be great. Lots of room for trains. I'm glad you changed your mind and didn't rip up your beautiful desert wash. Too much blood, sweat, and tears went into that! Lol. Well, you certainly have lots to keep you busy for a while. Have fun. See ya next time.

Your work is fantastic. Your attention to details makes for very realistic and dynamic rail operations. You are a great motivator and inspiration for me, and I am sure for others as well.

That's going to be a very realistic looking railroad when your done Kory.
Don't forget to install Kadee magnets for realistic uncoupling between the rails somewhere in your yard.I really like mine, these work very closely to the prototype.

Hi Kory, That broad radius curve is going to look awesome! Super elevated of course! I use Peco Insul Frog turnouts, and I’m very happy with them. Mike

The new yard is looking good! If it doesn't run well rip it out and start over.

Same here, renting definitely comes with layout limitations unfortunately.

Oh, oh, you've gone over to the dark side replacing the foam with plywood. Looking like the new yard will be massive and an improvement over the previous arrangement. I like the idea of the wind farm. The windmills are signature parts of the landscape in that area.

Like the new yard. Looks great. I've had great performance using Peco turnouts. You may want to consider operating the yard turnouts manually. It will save you a ton of work and $$$. I designed my layout so that all but 2 turnouts are manual. Its great. Good luck whichever way you do it.

I really like your updates. Very ballsy to rip so much up. Btw, while I appreciate you not being focused on ads, with a 9 min 57 sec video, add a 4 second filler at the end to hit the magic 10 min mark. I don't think anyone will mind.

    Kory,
The plywood looks good and sturdy. I could barely notice the drop there. Are you bringing back the high tension lines? I have a feeling that the house trailer will be weathered and end up out in the middle of the desert? Looking Great!! Thanks for the Update!!

What peco switches are you using? I have standard atlas turnouts on my layout. Also do I have to insulate at all with the peco switches because I don’t want to worry about shorts.

Thanks for the layout update, looking good. The wind mills will look great on the layout. You were having a lot of derailments with the Atlas switches? Did you figure out why? If so, can you share that? I am planning a layout and am gathering info. Thanks for sharing. Ken

I like what you have done to increase your yard capacity. I am going to assume that when a car derails on your layout that you do measure the wheel spacing on the trucks? Cars and locomotives are not always gauged correctly out of the box. A few out of gauge items do slip through. Another thing you can do is add some weight to the biggest offenders or even change out the trucks or both. I am modeling in On30. I could have used ME Code 83 or Atlas track modified for On30, but I kept hearing about reliability of the PECO track. So, I decided to use PECO O-16.5 narrow gauge track. As you have learned reliable track and turnouts is a major satisfaction. It doesn't matter how good the layout looks if trains keep derailing. Take your time to get it right and the way you want it.
You mention extending into the closet. I figure you are talking about extending the yard. What about a narrow rolling table with yard track that can be unfolded, rolled into place and connected to the layout? You can curve your yard to sweep onto it. When not in use it is folded up and placed in a closet or somewhere against the wall? You can extend tracks to it by using small pieces of track to between the layout and the narrow table.
Sometimes an "Oops!" can also be a blessing in disguise. Your sloped section can use piles of ballast at the end of the track as car stops. This is not unusual in a yard. Extra ballast is dumped in piles. That will keep your cars from rolling downhill off the rails.
