Scott, GREAT explanation of balance in the composition and I really enjoyed the Skimmer photo. Can’t imagine the time/effort to get this view compared to the effort on getting the perfect side view!! Excellent photos from the Patreon photographers!

Hi Scott. This is another wonderful lesson and I will refer back to this often. So, as always, thanks so much for making this and, by the way, your Skimmer photo is absolutely, over the top, wonderful and fantastic. It’s one of the best bird photos I’ve ever seen. - Mick Thompson

Scott, I love this type of content. It makes me think. Sometimes you see a photo and just like it, but I couldn’t describe why. This is so helpful to understand photography as art. Love this! I’ve only been doing nature photography for a few years and self taught. I crop unconstrained and I wonder if that’s right, or if I should be using a standard like 4x6 or 8x10. I just crop until it’s pleasingly. Is 1 way better than another? Thoughts?

I would only worry about specific dimensions of there is a reason. Like if you wanted to print to a standard size. I often default yi 7x5 but that's just a preference. IG is harder with wider ratios like 3x2 or 16x9 just because of the format.

Sometimes you can’t get low due to grasses or vegetation on the bank, but you can get lower than standing. Sometimes I carry a Walkstool, and monopod to sit by the waters edge, they come in multiple heights. (Amazon) Especially handy to catch blue herons fishing. You can sit comfortably for a long time this way. Plus the farther away the subject the less the angle you are shooting down. Maybe this is helpful. Happy shooting!
