This critically acclaimed six-part mini-series... Shot between March and June 2004, Ultimate Survival: Everest chronicles the Everest efforts of Team Discovery, which included two Canadian climbers - producer and experienced adventure guide Ben Webster, and his girlfriend, rookie climber and PhD candidate in Sports Psychology, Shauna Burke - plus Australian Andrew Lock and Hector Ponce De Leon from Mexico, both veterans of Everest and the world's most intimidating peaks. The series also follows the treks of Annabelle Bond, a London socialite; and diabetic American climber Will Cross. The expedition's members, including the team's Nepalese Sherpa guides, were trained to act as the production team, filming the extreme physical demands, physiological changes and emotional hazards. Soaring 8,848 meters above sea level - equal to the height of 16 CN Towers placed end to end - Everest's summit is the ultimate challenge for climbers around the world.
Stop the bloody music. This document is ruined by the incessant bloody orchestra. Loud music played non stop is the number one hallmark of rubbish documentary production.
Thank you for writing that the high altitude videos were taken by sherpas. Would be even better if their names were written too.

I say that people should have to have medical clearance, just like they do in other high risk sports. It seems like 1/3-1/2 of the climbers don’t belong there and are putting others at risk.
You get fifty or a hundred people who want to see the view from the top of Everest, charge them the same as an expedition, put them in a 747 and all of them can spend an afternoon sipping martini's and enjoying the view as they circle the peak of Everest. Nobody dies and the organizing party makes a fortune....
Yeah, but it's not the tip of Everest that they actually came there for. They don't realized it but the experience and the feeling of being alive after escaping the jaws of death is very fulfilling. The stress of constant repetition in our careers and daily lives can make people feel like zombies. Alive but not living. Only a trip to death's door can violently shake them free from that state. That's what I think anyway.

Why did Discovery cancel this show? Compared to other shows on that channel this one should be its flagship.
The sherpas got these people there but get no glory - they are amazing people. Only respect for them. Get pretty angry all these people paying their way to the top now a days.

That's because sherpas are actually making a ton of money, money they receive from these tourist who receive that money FROM these corporations. So the corporate logos PAY the sherpas you idiot. sherpas are working that adventure tourism to death.

No one should be allowed to climb Everest without oxygen! Even if they don't use it, they should carry it and have it accessible regardless! They can make their own choice to use it or not. It's too late if they need it and don't have it. A Sherpa should not have to carry it for them. It's selfish to put others at risk so you can say you did it without oxygen.. SMH. Be proud of yourself simply for making it.

Hector is fantastic, he got to the summit like he is not actually there suffering like the others are. But he is humble and that's very refreshing to see such a person. 6 hours from base camp to summit, he is faster and better than the best sherpa.

very good show. one can learn a lot.the details are appreciated; i.e how water is gained, how does one shower, etc the score is ridiculous; just no need to over dramitized the images. that it is everest is enough.

Yeah that woman caught my eye too, looking good at such altitude is rare.
I have decided it's an easy mountain with oxygen and good weather. Anabelle made it. btw it her hands were bad she would have mittens.
I think there's a huge different between making that mountain in good weather versus in bad weather with storm ice winds of 100 mph and -20 deg C and 5 feet visibility. It is only luck that makes one or the other. I'd say only 30% of those that make it in good weather are capable to do it with some bad weather on the way.
