Just watching this again. That's still a really dope AF Mod yo
I almost snagged one of these pre-owned 10 years ago. Every video I've seen of it so far makes me regret not going for it. I love those waveforms, and the analog subtractive components easily put it on a level with the Roland JX-8p / JX-10 / MKS-70.
Ah well, I've got a MicroKorg XL now, and the DW-8000 waveforms in Oscillator 2 provide a consolation for my cold feet.
Fantastic. Let the world know if ever available as mod or service. 👍
Great job on these sounds.
Forget about the presets and their "banks". This is strictly a waveform expansion. These new waves come in banks of 16. Bank 1 of the waveforms is the same as the originals. Banks 2 to 32 and completely new banks of 16 different waveforms making 256 less 16 totally new waveforms.
I hope this helps.
Add one to the list of interested parties if you ever decide to sell this as a kit.
sounds awesome
thanks for sharing:)
I'm glad to see you finally ported your brilliant mod to the 8000!
Really all this mod does is take the wave ROMs and replace them with higher capacity ROMs which can be filled with additional waveforms. Each "bank" is just a set of 16, the same as the original synth. When you spin the selector, it works like a digital encoder which toggles the ROMs address lines to select a different "bank", always limited to a set of 16 waveforms at a time -- again, 16 at a time max, just like the stock synth.
It's just using one larger ROM which is essentially treated like swapping the original ROM in and out with the same type of ROM with different waves in it. To the Korg, it looks like only one stock size EPROM, but in reality it's one oversized EPROM broken into pieces, and each piece is selected by an address line toggle.
The 7-segment display counts up or down with the selector, but you don't even strictly need to implement this for the mod to work.
Fairly basic electronics. The only real challenge is authoring waveforms which sound decent.
I would love this in my Dw8000
Sounds nice :)
Could you explain what this is useful for if not available as a kit or installing? Is there instructions somewhere so, say... a technician could do this for me?
beautiful sounds, if you decide to sell these I'll be the first in line
so how do i get this? are you trying to torture me by presenting this amazing mod and then telling me i cant cant install this in my own dw?
Please, one of this years, when not too busy, share the way you did it. All in all, that is what web is mainly for..... Thanks in advance, and my compliments.
Check out the Kiwitechnics "Patch Editor" to add real time controls to the DW8000 and DW6000. One "Patch Editor" can control 2 synths or more ;)
how much you wanna get paid bro please let me know
Is this a commercially available mod for the DW8000? If so where to buy?
Cheers
Daniel of D.S. (a Swedish synthrock/electro-industrial project)
Sure wish we could obtain the schematics to do this
Mod since it’s not available for purchase
@@DadoSimicStudiostriver hackaday.io/project/10113-project-72-korg-dw-6000-wave-memory-expansion like this?
Is there a blog or something where you talk about how to do this?
Hi Chris. Good video. You might also be interested in Synth Britannia - the history of electronic music. Available on UA-cam. Hope all is well since Brunel
This is very cool but where do the waveforms come from?
Very cool - is the mod very difficult?
Synthasy2000 - I'm a little confused by your use of the words "waveforms" & "banks". The DW8000's sounds ("presets") are digitally generated from the DWGS, (Digital Waveform Generator System) comprised of 16, sampled, digital waveforms. It has 64 presets, stored in 8 banks. So is this actually a "waveform mod" that adds more, sampled waveforms? Or is it a mod that just adds more presets & banks?
No, Angueran. You don't get everything for free in this life. Do the work yourself like he has.

Yes, of course. But a little kindness on the web is called "sharing"... And is also much appreciated....

All that I can of my little knowledge. First, I am not an hater of any kind on the web, that is on its own a good starting point. Then I co-operate to share my little knowledge with other web users. Then again, I look for things on Google for newbie people with pleasure, people that lots of other stupid beings would call "dumbasses"....
@@littlebritain64 So, you don't have much but want much. I get that but people like him shouldn't have to give away what he has worked so hard to do. I certainty don't give away my work for free although I do help people for free all the time. Time is money but money is not time as Fez would say.

"Want" is probably a too big word, my friend. It's a wish, mainly. I think I have written I would pay for something like this, or agreed with someone who would do it. Actually I live a messy life enough, being my parents been killed by a neighbour 31 years ago and seein my life and my sister's one upset and stolen by the filthy country, Italy, I have the disgrace to live in. The killer was protected and we had to pay tenth thousands of € to get the trial on, and receiving no justice at all. In other cases, seeing my sister fallen ill and me as well, I could have taken a rifle and shooting randomly from a roof like it happens in U.S.A. sometimes. Till, I didn't lost fairh in people, and I am still trying to do my best to give my little efforts to mankind. Do not underestimate people that can't offer too much to the world, maybe their lives stopped at a certain point of developements, and the little they can do is even too much for a certain kind of persons......
Interesting sentence on C.Selling website : "do no ask me for schematics or help or memory dumps"... Looks like somebody saying "Look, I have done that, but you can't have the same thing"
