All great advice, that I will use. I’m gonna be a first boat owner in a few months and I’ve always heard and experienced keeping fish alive. One recent thing I heard from a buddy said after he put some type of air vent in the tops of the lids, he had a lot less problem with dead fish. I guess releasing gas or just allowing fresh air in. I’m not sure. I guess they make vents you can cut holes for and install. Have you heard or seen anything on this?
I found that cooler water holds more oxygen so when temps get above 80, I carry 5 of the two liter coke bottles and put additives in the bottles and fill with water and put in chest freezer. Every couple hours I take cap off and put in livewell. As it melts and cools it adds additives to water. My boat doesn’t have a recycle pump so have to add water. Planning on adding a recycle pump in it but haven’t had time. Two surgeries and fighting cancer from agent orange I haven’t been out this year. I will get back out.
Randy, I agree completely. The more that I can keep the wells water running, the less problems that I encounter. All year long. Catch and release is the obvious environmentally responsible concept, but it does create more challenges as fish return with adaptive memory. This is why your mental and philosophical perspectives are so interesting. The smart and intuitive anglers will surpass the tech only guys. Keep up the innovative concepts!
Well can I have your rejuvenate . I notice when I use the rejuvenate my fish are stronger and more active once I get them out of livewell also to me it does help on hook punctures and sores on the fish. I think you have the most informative videos out there bare none . I really appreciate that and you randy telling the truth thank you so much.
Actually there was a study done and MLF style has been shown to kill off more fish (and a lot more) simply because they are catching and handling a lot more fish. Wish I could remember the study but reading it kinda blew my mind because I used to think the same as you.
@@shawnhammack5302 it's a different kind of fishing, when you are fishing for 5 biggest you just don't catch as many even when culling you handle a fraction of the fish as in MLF when 50 2lbers means something. Just a difference in throwing a bigger jig to catch 4 and 5 lb fish and not spend time on smaller fish that won't matter.
@@kjack7425 I just don't believe it. These same guys were catching the same amount of fish to get there biggest 5 for the most part. Yes there are times that what you are saying is true but for the most part the guys on fish are gonna catch a bunch regardless of the format.
Another pro shared the same information about making sure the water was circulating and getting O2 he just used lake water in his live wells and has had less problems. As my father said "experience is the best teacher".
Don't use any commercial fish care products. They may not harm the fish and may even help them survive but there are no FDA studies to know if they are safe for human to consume from fish that have been introduced to those chemicals.
Down here in south Texas during the summer months when it’s over a 100° I believe keeping the water cooler helps! I freeze 32oz gatorade bottles and put them in my live wells and keep my Recirculator on.
I agree on the timer deal,leave it on the whole time,I have a buddy who in the summer days he put well water in his livewells before he leaves,and we never have dead fish,great topic
Ice is good. If you're going to eat the bass! Otherwise, those bass are going from cooler water back to warm water. Not good for stressed fish. August tournaments are bad.
You can take tap water and put it in a gallon jug. I don't know the exact time frame but after a week, the chlorine is nonexistent. Otherwise, you can dechlorify it emmediately with water conditioner. One drop per gallon.

That’s why mlf style catch and release is by far the the best for conservation of our fish. Way more exciting to watch too.

You drove 200 miles one way to fish in a tournament. That’s 2 hrs 51 minutes one way. 3-4 waves coming back at 40 is 5 hours. That sounds fishy..😂😂😂
