- 1967 Chevy Camaro Convertible chemical paint and rust removal
Today I am chemically removing all the paint and rust of this Classic 1967 Chevy Camaro prior to its completion restoration. I’m going to take you through the process we use to completely chemically strip cars down to bare metal. This is a more thorough alternative to sand/media blasting with no chances of metal warping on thin panels. This process shows you exactly what you are working with and gives you a blank canvis to work with!
It is a 3 step process
Step 1) alkaline degreaser and paint remover
Step 2) Food grade Rust removing acid
Step 3) Water based rust inhibitor
The total process takes around 6 weeks because we use environmentally safe chemicals.

Considering that car is about 56 years old it's in surprisingly good shape, especially for a convertible. Excellent video as always, thanks for the entertainment
Took the words right out of my mouth.
Yeah it turned out really solid. I was surprised. I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
What a piece of history that you were dipping. I love watching these classics get the treatment. I just wish that they could talk. I can only imagine the stories that they could tell.
For some reason, when I see these cars go in the acid bath, I imagine that they're saying "ahhhhhhhhhh" like getting into the shower after a busy day, but for the cars, several decades lol
This channel, for just watch old cares being stripped, is one of the most oddly satisfying channels to watch. And what car nut doesn't dream of the rewards that would come their way, driving around in a 67 Camaro rag top.
Amazing to see how much effort put people put into hiding in perfections rather than texting them
Always enjoy your videos.
Do you ever follow up either the people whose car you dipped? Would be great to see how they did the sheet metal repair and finishing. You started a complete restoration process and enable them with your good work!
I try to. I have people that will send me finished product pics but 99% of the people that send cars to us don’t post their work on social media. I always ask though.
take my money already! This is GLORIOUS work!!!
by the way, you should bill all of your watchers for a therapy session, because watching this is therapy!!!
🥰 thank you!
Another great video .... Thanks for sharing 👍👍
Thanks for watching!
My mother had a gold one. New!
Awesome!
Great Job
Thank you!
same year as me!!! Same body type - pretty solid with a few spots that need work -
Seeing some part of the "after" is really cool, like the GSX you showed today. Even cooler to show the final build though understandable that the delays would be months of even years, then, and that doesn't sound ideal for you
"Look this good you will not, when 56 years old you reach". It looked like just another bondo bandito at first.
Yes, sir but it is a guess when this Bondo work was performed and also due to the flat rate manual to properly replace a quarter panel would have been cost prohibitive. Also, with the advent of Bondo it was much easier to build up the Bondo and form the panel curves and such. Of course, it will look good and that is all the owner is after and there is no regard for how long the repair will last. And to top it off these vehicles were used vehicles anyways and they were not going to be kept for many more years. All vehicles are subject to environment and care and use as we all know and over a period of time it is of course financially sound to trade in or sell off the old vehicle and get a new one. And along comes us gearheads who have to save them, oh my oh my!!!!!!
Living in the land of salt Ontario that Camaro would be considered as mint condition. Surprised to see that much lead in the back end. Somebody went old school for that repair. I do have a spot for Roger right next to a baby Animal I found in one of my winter beaters.
A first-gen Camaro with THAT little rust? I'm guessing that not only does it not know where Ontario is, it probably hasn't seen much more salt than what's fallen off the french fries!
Yes sir. When these vehicles were manufactured you can see that the body seams where some panels were joined were soldered (manufacturers talk) and on that Camaro if it had been a hardtop the seams where the windshield frame met the roof would have been soldered. now I have a 1972 Chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup that I had purchased from the original owner and when I stripped the original factory paint off of the cab I could see where some small dings in the cab were repaired with solder. when I was a teenager, I would read all of the books and manuals regarding auto repair and when I started reading about auto body repair the procedure for repairing a dent was explained and the finishing of the panel was lead repair, and then along came Bondo and let the games begin. A new invention "Bondo wagons".
I did one restoration which was a 1965 MGB. It lived it’s life in Pennsylvania. After that experience I think that the way to go is to buy a California or Arizona or New Mexico car to start with and have it trucked east.
I was going to dip all my car's anyways lol
💯🙏🤫
Good.job Nice show 😄👍👍👍👏👏👏
Thanks buddy! I appreciate that
i would love to see what happens with it in the future ...
consider making a collaboration with some car builder youtuber in the future ?
Glad to a new post, have missed your content of late. It would be cool for the owners to let us know what the factory paint color was.
What happened to hyper speed bees?
Have a safe holiday season.
Do you need to seal the metal quickly to prevent rust?
❤❤❤
Now when your done stripping down to bare metal, do coat the body with a rust inhibitors? I recall a friend who stripped a car and overnight started to rust. Do people drop off the bodies, ship the bodies ,
We dip it and spray it down with a water based rust inhibitor. Lasts about 30days.
Most people drop them off, some ship them. We have a guy that will pick up and drop off for an extra charge
A lot of cars look good from the outside prior to being dipped. Perhaps a better look at the "before" photos will give us a sense of how good a car looks from the outside but is a real derelict once it's dipped.
Just curious, do customers have an idea of how bad some of these cars end up? Or, is most of your business from shops?
Just bare Steel, so those cars weren't Lead-Dipped for rust prevention? I'd be tempted to get one of my cars done to this level, but would want to make sure the Lead coating on the Steel was protected, or re-dipped.
We apply a water based rust inhibitor when it’s all finished up
How much does it cost for this process?
Lol. I want Roger Rabbit
👍👍👍😎😎😎

I don’t hide it. I’ve answered how we dispose of it hundreds of times on here
Overall, I’ve seen a lot worse
How much is your service
The car had a dozen paint jobs, but you took all down to bare metal, and it looks good 👍.
I dont care if its a Chev, Mopar or Ford, its just great seeing people are restoring these great cars. Nice work helping those people with your dipping service. 👍👍
Thank you!
For as old as it is, that Camaro isn’t really bad.
Man that is a thing that I would like to know. What magic you make for the camera lenses stay dry while you uses the water pressure???
Вы молодцы!!! Вторую жизнь даете автомобилям 👍👍
pick me, pick me!
How much chemicals do the tanks hold? How often are they changed and what's the cost? How long does it take to change?
It in great shape considering it's a convertible
Had 67 Camaro RS Convertible back in the daze - rotted in exactly the same spots.
The guy I purchased it from was a fanatic taking care of it, so I suspect rust trap areas were engineering Fups. First year/First-gen.
Wow that 67 will need both quarter panels replaced. This was a interesting video today, thank you sir.
Thank you for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed it
Roger Rabbit is indeed pretty famous.
I wish my 67 RS convert had been that solid..
Thanks again I really appreciate your content 👍
I’m glad you enjoy it! I appreciate you watching!
Poor Roger... he looks like he's earned his retirement! 🙂 I was surprised there wasn't as much rot as I thought there would be. When there's leading on a vehicle like this, when they go to restore it, do they remove it, or let it be and just skim over the top with filler? Also, before you started making videos, was there ever a car that came out of the acid so bad, that the owner just said forget it? Thanx again for a great vid! Hope you and your fam had a nice Thanksgiving!
Love your videos, but some follow up on these cars would be awesome!
Its time for old Roger Rabbit to retire, and enjoy his freedom and rest in a fans property.
But bring on his replacement, its time for Roger 2 to step up to the plate!
lol he’s definitely had a rough life
Your work is always satisfying to watch, thanks for letting us join you!
Thanks for watching! I’ll keep them coming! I appreciate it!
I love the process and how clean the cars come out. I have heard that with “dipped” cars, the paint remover gets into the pinch welds and can ruin a new paint job. Is this just a rumor or maybe a difference kind of chemical?
Can I ask, do you spray the body with some kind of rust inhibitor after they are dipped or do they go out bare metal?
They get sprayed with a rust inhibitor and if the body is kept indoors in a dry environment they will not rust.
@@andretorben9995yep you got it!
OUTSTANDING : o .......
Thank you!
Instead of getting Roger rabbit, I would like a free car dip ....lol
how do you dispose of all the chemical acid bath when its no good anymore? The govenment regulations on that type of business gotta be super strict.
What acid do you use? And what alkaly neutralizer ? Will be thankfull if you could let us know. Regards.
Nice work. Question... the acid eats the good metal as much as it eats the rust, correct? If so, it makes no sense to repeatly acid dip the whole car to chase the rust spots instead of local blasting because everything on the car, including the rust free metal, will be thinner. I wonder if some of those pinholes that show up were a result of that. Maybe dip in a chelating rust remover that does not attack good metal? Would like to hear any opinions on this.
I'm thinking you need a proper crane setup there that would let you angle the car front to back and side to side. Do you Wash the bottom? Would have liked to see the rear frame rails on this Camaro.
That car looks like someone didn't know how to work metal in a later repaint. But that leading almost looks like a factory repair from what I've seen in the past.
How do you prevent the spray from getting on the camera.
I love ur making of this an putting it on u tube really enjoyable

Where is your business located?
Just wondering how much does it cost for a dipping like this and does the has to take off everything off the car before giving it to you for the dipping?
Bet you have to clean your drain out a lot
Do you do the bottom of the car also?
be cool to see the vin number
Bondo baby! Another great video, thanks and please make more.
were are you located?
trunk looks way better than I expected
I’ve been out of the body shop business for over 20 years. What are restorers doing these days to coat and seal after you have done a dip? We always used self etching and epoxy primer, but how do they coat every single square inch that is now stripped to bare metal? Cavities, voids, inside floor braces etc?
I wonder about areas like door skin edges, trunk and hood edges, quarter panel to wheel weel, and every pinch weld. These are layers of metal and no paint or undercoat is every going to get back in there.
I'm always spell bound watching your videos. They seem to only last a couple of minutes. Cheers 🍻
I often wonder what changes to the original chassis design the engineers of the day would make to avoid the rust issues exposed after your dipping process ?
I've seen a lot of those videos, but I can't get tired of it. I might have a voyeur issue, since I love to see what's underneath a car paint :D
Anyone wanting to purchase any classic vehicle needs to watch a few hours of these videos😂
Wish someone did this locally. Though I'd be afraid my cat went in and melted lol
Bondo? Gone-doe.
for a 67 tho, that's terrific
How much did a dip like that cost??
Great job. Camarod lookin good
Cost to do a car like that would be how much?
I can’t really do quotes on here but we have a flat rate. 3️⃣1️⃣OO
you only do classics?
We’ve had a few “newer” cars. The newest car we’ve ever done was a 2001 Mazda Miata. Newer cars paint is a lot tougher to remove
Hey like your videos just wondering where you're located
Thanks! We are in nanty glo Pennsylvania

These videos are so satisfying LOL.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy them!
Kept worrying there would just be a pile of wet Bondo at the end of the pressure wash!😊
