As an Indonesian, Gordon killed it with the nasi goreng. I think Gordon generally does a good job with asian cooking.

@@avlinrbdig5715 to be fair pretty much everyone outside of japan screws up ramen, the level of difficulty is way different
I don’t know about that. Have you seen his ramen? I’m half Japanese and grew up making Japanese food. It was really pretty bad. True, ramen has a high level of difficulty and a lot of the steps he took were to save on time, but there were some unforgivable mistakes. You know, like adding miso to boiling water. That just kills the flavor. If he wanted miso, he should’ve just made a miso tare separate. But, his biggest mistake was trying to make a ramen in 10 minutes. Ramen is something that can take up to 18 hours. Yeah, you can make a basic miso, shoyu, or shio broth in 30 minutes, but you need chicken stock and dashi on hand. So, he picked the best type (a miso broth) given the time constraint, but he just didn’t have enough time to do it right. He kinda shot himself in the foot.
I’ve also seen his Thai papaya salad. It was okay. He didn’t add nearly enough chilies, cut the strips too short, used too much sugar, shouldn’t have used Thai basil or coriander, and his dressing was too fibrous. But, in his defense, he did say it was his version of Thai papaya salad, so I guess it’s okay.
He’s definitely a fantastic chef. He just gets a couple things wrong with foreign cooking. He’s definitely still human, and is still learning about other food cultures, so I won’t hold it against him too much. At least he absolutely nailed his nasi goreng. That absolutely proves that he’s not just some hack who happened to get lucky. He generally knows what he’s doing.
@@vyrtilanyrwen3071 i've made the point that pretty much all ramen made outside of japan isn't authentic unless its by a japanese branch so tbh its kind of pointless to complain abt that (for reference i lived in tokyo for couple of years but i've travelled to fukuoka for the real real shit)

It seems like while Gordon Ramsay doesn't know a thing about Italian cuisine, he's pretty good at Asian cuisine. Just like Jamie Oliver is good at Italian cuisin but doesn't know a thing about Asian cuisine. They kind of balance each other out.
And then there's me who doesn't know anything about anything so I just try stuff until I figure out something that works and tastes good

No he knows plenty, he makes alterations to them bases on what he likes and what he knows the locals at that specific restaurant like. He makes the dish his own, gives you a reason to try his expensive restaurant vs the hundreds of others that either have their own version or a very traditional version.
Hello from Bangkok Thailand. A word about the use of utensils in SE Asian cooking. Some dishes use primarily, forks and spoons. Others use chopsticks and also Chinese style soup spoons. And some dishes use "Sticky Rice" to eat with.

If it's rice, we use spoon or hand( in Thailand mostly spoon now, except sticky rice). If it's any noodle or noodle like, we use chopstick.

You missed it, Uncle Vincenzo. Uncle Roger and Gordon had a falling out because Gordon ruined ramen, so he lost his Uncle title.

It must be noted though that in that video Gordon was doing Jamie's format for people that are too stressed to take the time to prepare a proper meal. Obviously you cannot make proper ramen in ten minutes, but at least Gordon actually used ramen (wheat noodles) whereas Jamie used soba (buckwheat) which is probably even worse than the chili jam.

fried rice especially is kind of hard to eat with chopsticks because the grains are separated and dont clump together
I tried that, it was indeed difficult. I had to position the bow at an angle to where I would be able to scrape the rice using chopsticks.
Gordon and Jamie are rivals of being the worst celebrity chef at cooking foreign food
The diffent, the huge diffrent is, that Gordon has 16 Michelin Stars, one or two restaurants with even 3 stars! So he is not just a celeb cook, he is actually one of the best chefs in the World.

The real question is why Vincenzo respects Jamie as a cook but not Gordon.
There are reasons behind Jamie becoming such a meme. Such as chillie jam fried rice. Butter chicken with no butter and that god awful "green curry".
I don't dislike Jamie. He seems like a nice guy and does have some good recipes, but to respect, good cook Jamie's food and not 3 Michelin star chef Gordon's food is insane to me.
I rely on their reproductions of Italian recipes, Gordon bastardizes them much more than Jamie
@Vincenzo's Plate Fair enough it's just out of the two Jamie has the far worse track record of bastardising other cultures recipies.
I guess there is a favoritism aspect as you gave Jamie a pass on garlic in carbonara, which I don't think you would give to others.

@@kurt5079Garlic in Carbonara is ok, especially if you do it like Jamie, using so little and taking it out. The only problem was too much pepper.
@shivavision420 I have worked with enough Italian chefs to know that garlic is not ok in Carbonara.
Also, it is supposed to have a lot of pepper as that is the carbon in Carbonara. It is due to the pepper looking like flecks of coal. The name derives from Carbonaro, which translates to charcoal burner.
