Agreed. I think attendance based promotions are smart. It stops people dropping off or worrying. We only do 2 graduation nights a year and sometimes on seminars. Been a 2 stripe white belt since march this year, so I’m behind unfortunately.
Easy fix. Step 1: stitch your school’s logo to the back of your gi. Step 2: sign up for tournaments, or do drop-ins at every school within fifty miles of your school. Hells bells, do both. Step 3: roll with everyone. You will either lose a lot and show that you don’t deserve promotion, or you will win a lot and your coach will get accused of sandbagging.
I didn't come around to appreciating martial arts until my 50's. I took eskrima for awhile and most recently musado. I'm 65 now. I wish there was a program for older folks.
Yeah maybe for gb gyms yall have to be more structured bc the amount of students. I think in smaller schools it's way easier to watch what they are doing in rolls. I'm half way in the new school mentality that belts really don't matter but I do value my purple belt but I'm way more concerned about my ability to compete on the mat with the best people in my area.
LOL, I didn't do BJJ for a belt, I did it for the way it made me think, feel and for its effectiveness aggaisnt a larger stronger foe. Plus it's a great workout. Great capstone to my wrestling background as well...
Ya, you can definitely be a good grappler, but just winning tournaments for a few years and getting a black belt is cool,. But I don't think somebody has enough experience to be an in-depth knowledgeable black belt. I mean if I want to a school, and I knew an average. Joe blow has trained 10 to 15 years and got his black belt, oppose to a competitor who got in four years, I don't think you would have the knowledge as the other guy. That's all I'm saying. You also said 6-8 years for a black belt??? Maybe with another grappling background?
Actually there’s a ton of black belts put there who got their Blk belts in 6 years. Thats not uncommon, especially if you train 5-6 days a week and compete a lot. Which you pretty much have to if your goal is to get your black belt fast.
Professor Elias was my first professor. Love the way he teaches and gets you hyped up during your rolls. I can hear him yelling at me now!!! Lol GBK in da house!!!!
@@Kolohe56 yeah no disrespect, but who are you to tell somebody that it doesn't take the 15 years? What if they had injuries? What if they took time off the mats? What if they're skill level is not up to par? I'm definitely not rewarding a belt for attendance. Attendance can be good for tracking attendance I guess? But just because Billy Bob has been coming four or five days a week doesn't mean he deserves to get that belt. If his level is not up to par he's not deserving of that belt..you don't agree?
Agree 100%. Structure is the key to life and success. Another amazing video, please keep them coming:)

I have always thought that with all things in life that commitment should be rewarded.
I like the achievement of the belt but im there for the workout and social aspect. Im a blue belt

@@Kolohe56 shouldn't be about getting the black belt fast. That's the problem if you're chasing a belt
@@terrynichol577 you miss the point of my post. I said its not uncommon. And it also shouldn’t take you 15 years to get it either.

Terrible system. Promote based on skill. Not based on how many months they pay
Stupid comment of the day!
