You could, but I think the pattern derives much of its effectiveness from the movement and natural coloration of the partridge feathers. The pattern takes longer to tie with the partridge feathers, but to me anyway, it's time well spent.
Ok, I will take your word for it, could you make a articulated streamer video? Also have you ever checked out fly fishing the ozarks videos.. there pretty cool.
Could brahma hen be used in place of the partridge? What's the difference between the two? I'm pretty new to fly tying, but love the looks of the pattern. Thanks!
Given the new brahma bugger or the coq de leon hen bugger, do you think this would out fish one? I have tied several of the brahma and coq de leon buggers. Someone told a friend of mine size 4 is the best size. I think that is huge but I will tie some up just in case he really needs them. No idea what he is going for. All the best, and thanks if you take the time to answer this question. God bless, Sean
Sean Mooney I really hope I never have to choose between the 3 streamers, Brahma Bugger, Soft Hackle Streamer and Moto's Minnow, all work so well. For me, the Moto's works well with high sun, the Brahma Bugger in low light (dawn and dusk) and the Soft Hackle in slow water. Throw in a Pine Squirrel Streamer for after dark and I'm happy. Size 4 is a bit large for all but the PSS, sizes 8, 10 and 12 are usually what I use for the others. Hope this helps.
sean mooney, everything will catch fish, its all about the presentation and the technique, you might have 20 fly boxes on you with pretty colorful flies but often the simplest flies catch the most.
Tight wraps so you don’t pull out. Grab stem and preen fibers to the rear. Wrap around the shank and pull back. When it’s bare snip it closely. Do it over and over again to get entire coverage. Towards the head switch to the white saddle. What am I watching here? 😝
Works great for trout. Never tried one without a bead. Grizzly is fine instead of white.
One of the best video's I have watched. So good to see how you prepare materials and all the close up video as you go for us newbies.. Thank you .
Damn....this music is hardcore. I thought you were gonna bust out the glow sticks to tie this bad boy!

Not to skimp or save, but I am figuring that a brass tungsten bead head would also be ok to use.
Also, thanks for the vid. Will tie.
