What's your opinion on leaving limbs on while working your way to the top to prevent the tree from swaying so hard? I've never tried it, but in theory it seems like it might help. 🤷♂️ Obviously, you'd have to be able to get the top to clear the lower limbs as it came down.
That tree was super skinny for how tall it was. I've always told myself that each limb I cut is less weight and sway. I've topped big monsters in the past were I am not removing the tree completely. Sometimes taking a top out will ride the limbs pull the tree and make it sway like crazy. I guess it depends on how big the limbs are. I had an old growth Hemlock that I topped it made disturbing sounds as the top hung up and rolled its way down. I will never forget it...probably the biggest scare of my career. Don't make a tree sway more than a wind storm would.
