    Just hold on loosely,
    But don't let go.
    If you cling too tightly.
    You're gonna lose control.
    Thanks 38 Special.

    If you’re having speed wobble issues;
Make sure you’re over the front wheel with your weight
Consider stiffening the rear compression damping to keep more weight on the front.
‘consider lowering the front ride height.
Setting up the bike correctly is the best thing you can do.
If all else fails, steering damper.

Everyone that rides knows what your supposed to do yet almost noone that rides actually does what your suposed to do when it happens. Almost all modern bikes come from factory with steering stabilizers of some sort and alot are electronic. The first addition to your new bike should be an additional adjustable stabilizer. Apart from greatly reducing possibilities of tank slappers they can be tightened and keep the bike from wanting to swing out while doing rolling stoppies... win win

That was one of the weirdest things to get used to when I first started riding dirt bikes. Granted you don’t get death wobble on a dirt bike when you’re just doing trail riding.
But getting the confidence to just actually ride the bike, and not try to control the bike (sounds counterintuitive I know, but it’s the best way I can put it into words) it gets so much easier, starts to actually feel like an extension of your body, not just something you’re maneuvering.

  • @williamkoehler9048

Elbows in loose grip on the bars, you’d be surprised by how much the wind can affect you at high speeds… just pick your head up above your wind screen at 140 and you’ll find all the way out lol steering dampener helps a lot of people too, I don’t use one because I’ve gotten used to riding without it but must newer bikes come with one built in your grip and elbow position is still extremely important tho..

Dirty wind, road conditions, going too fast for the bikes aeros.
There's a reason adv and naked bikes are usually limited to 140-160. Only tank slappers I have ever had were on my 2017 FZ-09 both times at around 120 smooth freshly paved road but it has no aero at all and because you sit on it like a dirt bike your body is just a huge wind sail even when trying to tuck.

You should be able to play the piano with your hands. Grip the tank with ur legs. I’ve been riding for YEARS never had this happen to me.

On my 400, I went over a bump I usually go over but this time I was getting it more (about 85-90) and it started to do that but I fixed my death grip problem long ago and it corrected itself immediately

Damn bro thanks a lot little bit late. anyone have a f****** ice cream cone. I just did a 170 mph slapper after Emma's just hitting a deer in Pennsylvania man that she makes me feel alive. Tomorrow I'm going to go out and I'm going to try 2 bust one out in a pinch how much you want to bet I can't make it do it ? If I have any luck I'll post a video you think ripping it really works?

Luckily I only ride trail bikes on our farm in Zimbabwe and its a problem I'll never have to deal with
Highest I've ever gone on a bike is like 60 lol. We got 30kms of roads on our farm and I love the offroading 💪😁

I swapped my grips out for ice-cream cones and binned the steering damper. Would have been ok but I fitted the cones on the wrong way with hotmelt glue. Sold the bike for half what I paid for it.

Its usually due to an imbalance in the frontforks
First thing you should check when experiencing wobbles

I keep hearing about tank slappers. I don't know how these happen I feel like something is being left out.
I ride ancient bikes with leaky forks, and cheap tires I've never had anything close to a tank slapper.

You're also showing a honda that doesn't have a steering damper, then showing a GSXR that does.
That makes a huge difference to how a bike responds.
But your advice on grip is correct 👌

If its anything like a dirtbike you gotta hang on with your legs. As soon as you get lazy with your legs you hang on with deathgrip arms and shit happens. I only know this because im old and i recently got back into trail riding. Problem is i got a rmz450, so i had to actually learn how to ride properly. 😅 I think id be in a wheelchair if i had this bike in my 20s

Since day one I started riding like this. I have had so many "Death wobble attempts" but they don't escalate further than just a little shake. I probably saved my ass already thanks to this grip

actually ..... the only reason it was a tank slapper is because as his tyre came down, it wasn't straight with his direction of travel, but that would of gotten in the way of all the icecream..... and ruined the video

Actually a steering damper is the sure way to fix it and then you don’t have to worry about dying from your dumb loose grip when you hit a bump and your hand falls off the grip. I’d say it’s bad advice. Also setting suspension up properly is important too. Too stiff of a setup can also cause tank slap…

That's BS, how can your hands overcorrect the bike's front end and cause it to wobble? The forces that keep the front wheel straight are much stronger than your hands and you can't overpower them. If the bike goes into death wobbles then it's time to do full service of the front suspension, wheel bearings and steering head bearings. Also different bikes are more prone to shimmy effect than others. Peace

I always employ a grip technique that's being used by cyclist: rest your pointing and middle finger on the lever that way you have a nice relaxed grip but still has throttle control and is always ready if you need to brake

Your wrong it’s a bad steering stabilizer. With a good stabilizer you can go 190 and let your hands off the wheel

  • @theIroncane

There is no such a thing as loose or tight grip. You don't want to fly away when your bike hits a pot hole at high speed, and you also don't want to grab too hard to cause wobbling. My advice: dont ride at insane speeds that might cause wobbling on the road. Do it on the track. 🙏

My r6 does this every ride but i just let it and dont overdo anything , used to it . Worst is coming out a bend and opening up .. front wheel lifts then bars wiggle but it sorts out. First time it happened overtaking was scary though
