  • I bought this 1989 Ford Taurus from the son of an 89 year old man who had passed. The car is, as you can tell, in really good condition. It did have leaky valve covers when I acquired it but I have since replaced the valve cover gaskets. The old man took the time to add a full size spare tire, but that's not shown in the video as well as I had hoped.
When I was younger, I built two model cars of the '89 Taurus SHO (I still have one, painted blue just as this car is), so as silly as it sounds, I do have a fondness for this car.
This body style came out in 1986 and was radically different from anything on the road at the time. If you look at one of my other videos, you'll see my 1985 Grand Marquis which is big and boxy (love it) like a lot of the cars at the time.

What a beauty. Almost exactly the same as the 89 LX my mother bought new and I spent my childhood in. This is crazy nostalgic.

I had a 1989 LX Station wagon loaded with every option with the 3.8 and a 1993 Sable LS loaded with every option and the 3.8 and they were both very comfortable and fast. Now i drive Crown Vics, Grand Marquis and Town Cars.

I really want one of these first generation models. They are my favorite among all model years, as well as one of my favorite cars.
Really nice to see you found one in great condition. I don't think I'll ever find one as good as yours, but I hope to obtain one exactly the same - digi dash and all.

Primarily in the first generation, 86-89 especially. The electronic cluster was optional on LX and GL. LX trim was rare, L and GL were the bread and butter.

The electronic gauges were available up until 95 if I recall correctly. This car has every option except for leather and sunroof. It even has the insta clear windshield which was like a $1000 option back then.

@@Mario_N64 One of the rarest options in the early tauruses. Basically there was a metallic film in the windshield, you press a button, and it would defrost the windshield in 3-4 minutes. Imagine a rear defroster without the wire lines.

Any good body shop can do a paint correction and get it looking good again, the 1993 I'm getting from my great grandpa has one rust hole by the gas door and top surface clear coat failure, it was garage kept but Ford paint wasn't that good back then and he drove it like anyone else drives a newer car until recently, has 155K on it with a brand new top end service because of the dreaded head gasket problem, he got the aircon updated and it still works, blows colder than the aircon in my 2005 Grand Marquis which is saying something because that car has a brand new compressor, accumulator, condenser, and evaporator while the Taurus has only had the condenser replaced everything else is original

My first car was a 1988 Taurus of the same color and trim level. We paid 800 bucks for it and it lasted me a few years. I have fond memories of that car. This one reminds me of it--eventhough it was never close to the shape yours is in.

phosgate54 Mine is a 1994 with the 3.8 and for me it's already sticking to me. I've thought of selling it a few times but I've just grown too fond of it in order to actually do it. Plus I'm moving to somewhere where it's cheaper for insurance in order for me to get the insurance by myself without my parents.

I've owned a lot of Taurus, in all styles but the 2008, and 2010+. But by far the most comfortable was my first, the 88 GL. Had that same dash, and I miss the damn thing

The 2008-2010 and the Five Hundred are great cars if you can find one with low miles that's been taken care of, the Five Hundred is absolutely gutless because of the antiquated 3.0 while the 2008-2010 Taurus will gladly get you a speeding ticket, that 3.5 Cyclone V6 is a good engine, the EcoBoost 3.5 is based off that engine

How much and where do we meet? Lol I currently have a 92 3.8 lx and a 95 gl with a Vulcan. Even tho the gl is in better shape, I still gotta say I love the extra torque of the essex. I Have just barely hit 134500 miles and bought it at 71000 original miles. Have yet to see any indication of head gasket issues but tbh, I keep an eye on her more than a crackhead keeps an eye out for something to steal. Maybe that's why I havent had any troubles yet

@@OneCuriousOwl0720 There was a version of the 3.8 Essex from the late 90s that was used in the Mustang and Windstar that had better head gaskets. There is a guy on the TCCA website who I can't remember his user name off the top of my head. On the Taurus Enthusiast page on Facebook his real name is Christopher Muscarella. He can help out and explain things better.

Great Car! But I would only get a Taurus LX with a 3.0 Vulcan. the 3.8 Essex had bad headgasket problems and cars with that engine had higher transmission failure rates than engines with the Vulcan.

    • @randalhill6283
      @randalhill6283 5 років тому +1

True they did have head gasket issues. But if you got a good one and kept an eye on it it was a fun engine. I had a 93 Taurus police car with the Essex in it and I dearly miss that car. I had a chance of either getting a transmission rebuild or a brand new car with a warranty. And unfortunately at the time I had to go with the option of getting a brand new car.

85 to 87 I believe looked exactly the same, 88 and 89s had similar dash and interior but offered the newer taillights and headlights that slightly differ from the older years but biggest change was the offering of the Thunderbirds 3.8 V6 Essex. Yes these had head gasket issues but if maintained were very powerful and much like the newer Duratec series cars had plenty of torque
