Review of a 2010 Ducati Multistrada 1200

- Here's some thoughts on my 2010 Ducati Multistrada 1200 in 'Arctic White'. This is the standard model without electronic Ohlins suspension. The graphics kit is non-standard and was applied before I got the bike. You can pick the early base models (and S models with electronic suspension) for around 7k. A lot of bike for your money! They come with:
Keyless ignition
Single sided swingarm
Brembos front and rear
4 rider modes
Traction control
ABS
2 12V power sockets
Fully adjustable Marzocchi front suspension
Fully adjustable Sachs rear monoshock
1198 Testastretta L twin engine
The best dashboard in the history of motorcycle design!
Italian swag...
Give us a shout if you have any questions about the bike! Peace out x - Авто та транспорт
" The gearbox, it's a little...uhh, agricultural"
BEST LINE IN ANY MOTO VIDEO EVER!!! Love it!
Here in early 2022, I am looking at exactly this bike.
Only 6300 miles for under $8k.
I'm worried about the reliability as I want to use it as my long-distance sport-tourer and definitely don't want to get stuck.
My 500cc would be a tough go on a 15-20 day all-road adventure here in the states.
The multi looks like the best choice in the sport-tour segment but would like to hear from other owners with "older" bikes.
Excellent vid! Subscribed.
Cheers
I consider yours to be a very good review . No exaggerated tech comments or others. Quite straightforward , congrats !
Nice video, Crumble. You make a good point regarding the different modes that are available.
+NotHis RealName I used to think they were pointless but they make a lot of sense on this bike.
That bus stop scene is hilarious - great review
Nice one Mr C. Really liked the bus stop scenario too.
+Sky Rider Thanks dude!!
I enjoyed every second of this video.
Another gr8 Crumble review, I'm gonna have to test ride one now...
Excellent review as always Crumble! Informative and concise. Loved it and the sexy presenter too 😘 obviously I know it's gone now as you have the Africa Twin but still enjoyable to watch X
Great vid Mr Grumble. Having ridden one for an hour a couple of years ago I now think this will be the next bike for me. The graphic kit looks really good so short of finding a red one I think a white with similar graphics will do the job. Keep the reviews coming. Cheers
Just traded mine so if you're not far from Notts mine is for sale at local Honda dealer! New Africa Twin was irresistible:)
Nice review. great bike. As you stated, very powerful but also very flexible. Enjoy!
+SuperPendulous Thanks dude!!
God I love the sound that engine makes
+shadetree surgeon Someone described it on here as a tractor. I bloody love it! It's addictive when you're on it - you just want to grab the throttle to hear that sound and that's with a standard can on.
Some people just don't possess the class to love anything else besides the whiney drone of a I-4 I suppose
Great review mate, so good that I went and grabbed a 2 hour test ride on a 2013 S touring, which was a mistake. I HAD to have it. And now I do, I'm even getting used to the box of neutrals... And saving for the Arrow Works system and a re-map.
All the best for the new year
+stonesie81 Great stuff! Glad you're enjoying it! I desperately want a can and a new link pipe but need more cash as per! Ride safe dude and happy new year when it comes around!
@@TheCrumble where can I get the additional wind Shield like yours?
Thanks for taking the time to put together a solid review!
"The bus is coming for meeeee, out in the country " great video crumble!
+UK Bus Dash Cam Thanks bro!!
Great review Crumble, my next bike has to be a twin, addicted to torque now!
+Lamb Chop Rides Thanks LCR!! Yeah torque is very addictive - and it comes in right where you need it instead of at 8k where my old R1 used to find it!
You almost sounded normal Crumble! Great review by the way.
+Grumpy Scrumpy I'm in review mode. I take motorcycles very seriously. Wanking not so...
nice man enjoyed it keep up the good work the bike looks a sexy beast :D
+UnitedGamesHD Thanks dude!
+The Crumble no problem
took me ages to suss out high beam on mine too ! push downwards on the headlight flasher all the best markpulling12
Another brill, video again!
+TheLoneWolfRider Thanks dude - appreciate that!
The Multi interests me, but with the dirt roads I traverse occasionally, my Honda CBR600F4i handles it perfectly, and they are covered in pretty rough in spots, guys on BMW GS look at me perplexed wondering how I got there. So it begs the question....why change? I also think I prefer clip ons rather than the sit up position of the Multi.
I'm thinking of buying a used 2011 "S", so thanks a lot of a modern review of an older bike.
HI! Did you buy the Ducati and have you liked it? Particularly interested in reliability.
I am looking at this review for the exact same reason - to buy this and sell off my yamaha mt 09.. i am looking at the exact same year made and exact same price point :) great vid. thanks. cheers.
Did you buy one? And did you keep it? And did you like it? Reliability? Comments?
Great Bike & I recall that road and the
Ferrari ;)
Prior owner's Graphics look cool & unique, too
RSMF
+Dracati Ducati Yeah i like them too. They set the bike apart a little bit IMO. Ride safe dude x
Where do you find these amazing roads! That country road where you was demonstrating the turning of the bike. Where was that?
I've asked you this question before and once you told me you were on Woodhead Pass I immediately went out there. IT was great. (I'm in Sheffield btw).
Cheers
+LxBsly These are local roads to me.But you've got Snake Pass on your doorstep! These roads are in the Vale of Belvoir - a beautiful spot just east of Nottingham. The twisty road is a road out of Bingham towards a place called Langar.
Hey crumble
Really considering one of these for next years big trips
I already have the new speed RS which as you know is an absolute belter and a riot to ride but did a long trip to Spain on it and my neck and arse were killing me by the time I got back (bloody fantastic in the picos tho)
Just got back from a fantastic few days riding in Gran Canaria on a hired 950 multistrada and absolutely loved it apart from the clutch being like an on off switch and the clunky gearbox
So did you have and problems with your 1200 and do you think it's worth the extra for the S?
I've seen a few 2010 models up at £5-6000, would be nice to have a second bike that I can put the big miles on and save the speed for the fun sunny days 😃
Cheers
Steve
great review crumble, anychance of you doin us a review on the Raleigh Chopper dude 😉
+Chris T I've got a chopper here somewhere I could review...
LOL, CHAOS crumble, CHAOS
Nice review mate! I've got a 2012 one and i love it. It's a brutal untamed beast! You either don't have the same problems or forgot to mention the bad rear brake and a defective fuel indicator.
Hi! Did you keep it? and do you like it? Comments?
I love it! Because it's a bike with character.
I believe you turn the full beam off by kneeling and whispering sweet nothings into its airbox, then gently stroking its horrendous beak and popping two in the exhaust - each exhaust.
Hope this helps.
+HamSpamJamLamb I tried it. It worked!!
You're goddamn right it did.
I couldn’t help visualize this literally 🧸
My innocence is ruined
@@nathanwhitley3358 you're goddamn right it has
I'm looking at the bmw s1000xr for my next bike, which is based on the same principle as this bike. I'm not too keen on big twins (tested a Monster 1200S Stripe a few months ago), they vibrate so damn much and as you mentioned they are a bit swampy low in the revs. I think I'm set in my ways and like the smoothness of an inline triple/four.
Did you have any regrets soon after getting this or were you happy from the get go?
+gizzmo84 Always have regrets! But the bike has grown and grown on me. I tried a Triumph Tiger 800 the other day just to see if I'd made the right choice and the Multi felt head and shoulders above it in terms of quality and excitement. The twin thing can be irritating but the torque is bloody addictive!!
Nice. If you add a decat pipe it sorts that low end out and transforms the bike, even without a remap. How's the MRA screen, thinking of getting one, did you have the original to compare too?
+Ff6022 Yeah i want one but mega bucks! I had the standard one on and it was crap. Prefer the lower MRA cos it cleans up the air around my head.
Thanks for the great feedback crumble
The one I'm looking at is a pikes peak and has 11k on it, the Ducati dealer has said they will do the belts and valve service on it .
Need to sell mine first though, typical you always see a bike you love before your ready 😫
And 6k that sounds like a bargain
Will get my Arse in gear and get mine up for sale :)
The Pikes Peak ones are gorgeous and if they do the valves that's a massive weight off! Good luck with it dude!
+The Crumble the other bike I'm looking at is the z1000sx
I'm wanting a bike that will be sporty enough for me but capable of touring with the Mrs .
Honest thoughts crumble ? :)
+roger wood yeah I thought about that Kwak. I think you will notice the quality of the Ducati is better than the Kwak. The twin engine is addictive and I was worried about the inline 4 being dull. Lot of those Kwaks about and not a 'special' bike like the Duc. Probably cheaper to run and bits are cheaper. Test ride is always worth a go.
Top review Mr C - these are superb bikes aren't they, I particularly like the graphics kit you have on that, looks really nice. I was very close to getting one of these, but I just found it a little too quick for my purposes + it felt a lot heavier than the GS (with it's low down centre of gravity)...as you say these modern "adventure" machines are just top notch as all rounders - if I could only have one bike from all the machines I've owned it would defo be the big adventure toy. Ride safe matey - all the best - TMF. P.S. Lovin' that MRA screen...
+TheMissendenFlyer Yeah they do everything very very well. Lots of fun in the bends but very capable as an everyday comfortable tourer that will clock up the miles - what's not to like!? Thanks for the comment my friend - ride safe!
Why did you sell it brother? I am looking at getting a 2015 or 2016 model. Currently I have my SuperDuke up for sale. Stay safe mate.
Nice, and a great review. Never tried a modern twin, but the Tiger Sport 1050 has the same idea, shoehorning a sport engine into an adventure frame, with similar pros and cons. I've found very low speed (5-10mph) filtering can be tricky somethimes without a blip or clutch feathering. Cornering and torque are excellent though :) As you had sport and adventure Triumphs, did you ever consider the Tiger Sport or take a test ride, or was it just time for a complete change?
He had one after he sold his speed triple! That was after the previous speed triple, not the last which he sold to get this beast..
+Scot Wilson Alright alright I get it!
+Al McLuckie I never tried the Tiger Sport actually. I did have the last of the old Tiger 1050s (2012) but didn't like it very much I'm afraid. That put me off thinking about the Tiger Sport in the end. I did feel like trying something different too after going through the Triumph range!
beauty whip..
+Dustin GC Thanks dude!
notice you like to go out in to the vale of Belvoir some nice roads out there.
+Michael Finlay It's my favourite place these days!!
+The Crumble nice views around there too and good roads cause im only on a 125 ahaa
Hey! What your height? I want to compare riding a motorcycle
Can I ask , how many miles has it got on it crumble ?
And you've had it a while now, what are your honest thoughts now ?
Asking because I'm looking at one of these, budget of 8k
Want to do some touring and sat on a few of these , they fit me well :)
Great review cheers matey
Hi Rog! Mine has 13000 on it now. Done 4000 miles since last August. Things I like:
Very fast-an exciting bike to ride
All day comfy
Great tech on the bike-modes are actually useful.
Engine is nuts
Best clocks ever
Looks different
Suspension is best I've ever tried
Handles great
Things I don't like:
A big bugger to control-engine is long legged-no good for commuting through tight traffic
My clutch is grabby
Service costs. Mine due a Desmo service at 15k=£600.
Thirsty
Always had niggling doubts about reliability (had no issues though)
Splays my legs at speed giving me thigh pain!
Accessories are bloody expensive-still can't afford an exhaust!
Try and get one with some bits. Things like luggage and heated grips and maybe a can will save you a lot of time and money. Check service history and try and get one that's had the Desmo service recently done! Overall a great bike. A fast comfy tourer. A sports bike on stilts! Good luck!
Oh and you can buy mine at reduced price as gonna trade it in soon. £6k cash it's yours :)
I love you Crumble
'Agricultural' gearbox lol....excellent review. Thanks )
Nice Bike.
+muttonshutter Thank you
Could this be all rounder bike? Especially for married man? Please advice mate, really2 want to know regarding to its reliability, coz it's DUCATI... Thank mate
Definitely an all rounder! I had no problems with reliability but always look for a good service history with these bikes. parts and accessories are expensive though!
Was you out on monday night on your honda? Around 5:20/30? Im sure i seen you...
+JStanger16 yes I was! On the ring road on the way home from work.
Wish i had my Drift camera on... I seen you and shouted CRUMBLE!! Hahha, i will see you again! and i will shake your hand sir!
I presume the Multi is long gone now? So how did the experiment end Crumble?
+Julian Freeman It was a lovely bike to own but costs cut its tenure short. Needed Desmo service and MOT which was going to cost me £600. I was always worried about reliability even though nothing went wrong in my time with it. The engine is just a bit much for that chassis really but a good bike - just not the one that stole my heart :)
+The Crumble Ah..love or lust..the great news about bikes is that you don't ever have to settle down..and the missus doesn't mind! Now I'm in trouble;-) Rock on mate!
I don't have a 1200, so don't know if £600 is a good or bad price, however there are some very good independent ducati workshops around that are a much more reasonable price per hour than the dealer network :D
Hopefully crumble you picked her up post valve clearance, otherwise you may get a shock when you head in for a service! Otherwise a stunning bike enjoy!
+Sean Hollis Erm...
She is a pretty bike though. Thanks Crumble.
+Christo Kinieriem Thanks for the comment dude!
What you after crumbie???, a job on telly LOL.
A very Sexy motorcycle Mr Crumble. Your a very lucky motorcycle person. I did a lot a pausing the video to admire it.
I do like Ducati's and amongst the mass of Triumph clothing there is a Ducati t shirt :)
+StreetTriple Mat They do have something in common. Both brands have much character still. Would you ever switch to Ducati though dude?
+The Crumble I'd have to have one as a second bike (916) and luckily I know someone who knows the owner of Ducati Coventry so hopefully I'd get a discount
I must say, you look rather dashing at the end there old chap ; )
+sharky09000 Thanks sweetie xxx
+The Crumble
Easy Tiger ; P
Shes belisimo...I do like the multi and a better choice for a tourer than say the s1000r, You gotta love a v twin. Are you gonna pipe it
+2wheels2fast I would love a can for it but they are so bloody expensive!!
"The Ducati Multistrada 1200! Sponsored by Angry Birds!" I'd go with you on the taking the chance on no warranty. After all, of anything goes wrong, technically you've got £7000 to put it right!
+Andy Man Cam Well yes that is a positive way of thinking about things Andy! I think Ducati have come a long way in terms of build quality...well i bloody hope they have anyway!
push the high beam flash button down and it will turn off the high beams. I had to look it up in the owners manual, its not very intuitive.
+jonathan acker After much fiddling by the side of the road I sorted it. A bit quirky but that's the fun of Ducati I suppose!
Agricultural .. That's a good term, I like that.
+recom273 You can have that one.
I can't get on with the Duke's, it always feels like it's been made from old dumper truck parts! Also Duke's are the second most recovered Motorcycle by the AA, after Hardly Ridable. Also that bike is so bloody tall ! I'm 6ft and I had to get on it like a horse, by stepping on the footpeg and swinging my leg over, then I'm on tippy toes! Na give me a Trumpet any Day. Horses for courses thou, variety is the spice of life.
Its like riding horseback! You're up there like mounted police 🤣. Crazy fun though, like indescribable ecstasy
Just out of curiosity.. How many Poodle's were killed in the making of this and what's the food like from that Korean takeaway in Beeston ?
Korean takeaway?! I've taken my last 3 dogs there for re-homing, I thought that was an animal shelter..
+StreetTriple Mat Just the 5 this time :)
dude... it's time to change again :P 7K woof expect to pay around 45K ($) for a second hand here FML
+sjbali I am getting itchy feet - I've had this 4 months now!!
+The Crumble yeah tztztztztz getting old!
Can I ask you one question?
You just did!
+LDNRider Wahay!
+J Bouchard Yes my son?
Damn!! I wasted it
Didn't I comment on this video!? I sware I did. Maybe it was more recent one when I got mad because you got a new bike. 🤔
Yea. That's it. You went snowflake and got a beamer. What a lump! 😂🤣😅
I would accept the quirks and strange looks for that price if she had character.
But to me she doesn't. sorry grumble
She would have to drop one or get the other thing.
But thats the beauty, isn't it?
Different strokes for different folks.
+Kalimerakis I forgive all the Multi comments. But Grumble?? No not that!! I AM CRUMBLE
Oh god XO
Wow wow there's quite a lot of shit over here. Priceless
first
RESPECT CRUMBLE. LOVE YOU MATE AND THANKS. P.S> New Triumph Thruxton R 2016, have you seen it? Pure sex or what. Putting my money down on one this Saturday.
www.triumph.co.uk/triumph-motorcycles/motorcycles/Classics/Thruxton/2016/thruxton
+Jason Williams You lucky boy!! Get some pics sent when you get it!
I know you can't stand the "ooh was that 'elmet yer wearin?" "'ow much did yer give fer them gloves there?" and what not...but...oooh what's that phone 'older you got there?
Haha I don't mind really. The phone holder is a Tigra Sport one. They are on Amazon for about £30 I think 👍🏻
thanks for the quick answer. looks decent. also enjoying the videos. came for the CRF, stayed for the crashes.
I hate with a passion the modern beak and hawk eye look of the front of these bikes. I could not buy one simply because I would be resenting the hell out of thing. Maybe second hand a few years down the line so I could rip that crap off and make the bike look less of a teenage boys wet dream.
+InTheNameOfJustice Yeah it's definitely a Marmite look. When i first saw one a while back I laughed at it cos I thought it looked so ridiculous.
Crossed legs ???? WTF 😁😁😁😁😁😁🏍🏍🏍🏍🍺🍺
I wish I could ride a motorcycle... It looks so butch and manly....I wish I was butch and manly......but sadly I'm not..... 😔
