  • Look! Up in the sky! It’s a cylinder! The Christopher Inn was a distinctive, prominent example of mid-century modern architecture on East Broad Street in downtown Columbus. Built in 1963 and demolished 25 years later, it’s still fondly regarded by those who remember it in the city’s skyline.

My Mother (Maxine Bryce ) was a manager at the Inn. Amazing time for me. I had great memories of this building.

That building definitely seemed like a building from the world of the Jetsons.

My wife and I stayed at the Christopher Inn December 15 1985 for our 1st anniversary. I grew up in Columbus and remember driving past it during the holidays to see the lights. Thank you so much for this wonderful but sad report.

The fact that they tore it down to make a parking lot is whats unbelievable and unforgivable.

I worked next door at COSI the year it was torn down. I always marveled at the building and wish I could have gone insider.

I remember this beautiful architectural marvel as a young kid and teenager. My older sister worked across the street from this hotel at Wendy's Old Fashion hamburgers in 1977.
My older brother Ben and I went to the Boys Club right down the street on six street. My God! Where have the years gone?!
Trivial Fact: The early R&B group "Force MDs" stayed at the Christopher Inn when they toured Columbus, Ohio back in 1984.

I heard there’s a developer who might seriously build a modern version of The Christopher in downtown Cbus.

I so agree with the statement : "If I won the lottery I would rebuild this one of a kind Historical lost landmark"

I always thought The Christopher INN - right next to the old COSI - was named after Christopher Columbus, our city's name sake.

It was so great they destroyed it, because a parking lot can't just go anywhere.

I don't know why I'm thinking that the radio station WNCI once had their office at the Christopher Inn in around 1977 or 1978. Does anyone know if this once was the home of WNCI offices?

I had my first radio spot on WBBY in 1977 (The Bates years, I'm old - lol). I don't remember hearing about the WNCI offices being housed in the Christopher, but do remember WNCI moving several times so it's possible. I mostly remember them being in The Continent and the Nationwide Building.
      RIP, Lemmy.
