As a type 1 diabetic who tried to play competitive tennis I can understand how hard it is for Sasha to perform at such a high level. He is nothing short of an hero
Exactly, I also have type 1, I don't write in reddit or anything because people there is pretty...arrogant. Those thinking that it's easy to manage diabetes type1 are deluded, is so exhausting and frustating. I práctice surf and it's pretty complicated and sometimes scary, what this guy does it's basically hero-level.
There are several top level NCAA tennis players who have T1D, they also don't talk about. At least two I saw have tubing for insulin pumps. With the advances of pumps and CGMs that communicate with each other, it's no longer a disease that prohibits high level competitiveness.
So inspiring. I had no idea either, had only heard of an NBA player here or a football player there. I'm 2 decades older and have spent my life hiding in bathrooms to take my insulin, going too low or too high for fear of bothering people... So I can only admire his courage for coming out, and his generosity for contributing to raising awareness. Thanks to this great champion on behalf of all future generations afflicted by this chronic disease!
This makes me believe he can make it around that injury and all the desappointements and comeback as strong as he was vs Nadal last year in the french peak zverev but maybe with more luck and a slam win , I hope he wins a slam to prove that limits only exists within the mind
So much respect Sasha. Never knew about your type 1 DM and your foundation. Best wishes for your career. You have it in you, just work on your inner dialogue. Change your demeanor. Ask Roger for help. You have come so far, don’t give up. Bless your parents for giving you this chance.❤ Sasha should oppose the late matches. Now I know why he expressed his concern about late match ending at 4 am at Acapulco last yr. This is not fair for any human being let alone a type 1 Diabetic with strenuous physical game. No wonder he lost the next match. I can totally relate what he is going through.
Great story, great athlete, respect to Alexander for opening up like this. God, that terrible soundtrack on a constant loop, so unnecessary, so false. Just let these incredible people speak without trying to turn it into a cheap television drama.
I am hypoglycemic which has similarities to Type 1 Diabetes. I am also an athlete (Basketball). Thank goodness I am not diabetic however, as it is much worse according to what I know about it. Thanks Alexander for bringing awareness to this disease. Much success to you in all that you do. ;)

Really appreciate this video, which gives out hope to several people and children who live with Type 1 Diabetes. Just one request - kindly do not use the words 'suffering from' Type 1 diabetes, as you have in the description. This gives out a very negative vibe, especially to impressionable kids who might read it. The only reason kids with Type 1 would 'suffer', would be if they had lack of insulin, testing supplies or healthcare. Type 1 per se is not what's making them 'suffer'. Kids with Type 1 can and ARE thriving with the condition...Alexander Zverev being a prime example of this. Thanks 🙏
Do you have diabetes type1? It's a horrible disease, that it's never "managed" to the point of you being or feeling normal, for longer than a day. Sugar stability it's almost impossible to keep for most of us.
@@m.a.g.3920 I agree that it's no walk in the park, however, I wouldn't call it 'a horrible disease'. It's not one. It's a disorder and there are much worse disorders than this one. Is it easy - NO, but you need to learn how to manage it....and it's MUCH MORE easier to do that in today's day and age :)
@@parinaaz_musicislife i have diabetes type1 since 3.5yo now 35, I know all the "tricks". It's not an easy disease by any means, at least for some of us, seems that it's not the same for everyone, different metabolism.

@@parinaaz_musicislife I also have ADHD which makes everything more complicated but I cannot use ADHD medication cause It drains my energy too much. I research about diabetes type1, I won't just wait for whoever to solve It. What most people know about diabetes type1 is oversimplified if not completely wrong. To begin with, the autoinmune reaction it's not the cause of It, but a reaction of the body to some dysfunction in beta-cells, it's not beta cells whom are responsible but Alpha cells, alpha cells are the ones totally dysfunctional and they "rule" over beta cells, so they give wrong signals and dedifferentiate beta cells wrongly. It's a long story, but the official story is like a child's drawing compared to the real thing.
@@ArsenalFan1714 All good Mike, there were a few giveaways with some of his photos that showed his CGM reader and insulin pens. Also sometimes it was possible to see his CGM when he is playing.
Hmmmm... he might be another case where it's a good thing that he's told that he couldn't do something. Some people just find it as motivation to push themselves and prove the naysayers wrong. I still recall Federer's story where a coach told him, I think, that he couldn't be good, or wasn't talented. Something that irked him. What did Federer do? Everyday, practice hitting a thousand balls. Point is, sometimes it's a good thing to tell someone that they can't do something and similar. People can be motivated by something like that. It depends on how well you know the person, if you want to try such a tactic.
