  • I'm excited to share today's video, sourdough bread for beginners. I'll show you step by step how I make this delicious loaf of artisan bread. I have made numerous loaves, tweaking as I go. The recipes I make now are perfection! I'll share the link to the recipe I (loosely) follow, but watch the video to see what adjustments I make!

I'm pretty new at this sourdough journey! All 3 of my 1st artisan loaves were disasters! I'm not about to give up, so I followed your recipe and it turned out AMAZING! Thank you so very much for sharing your experience with us! ❤

Perfection Julie! My husband watched with me and he was taking in every word. I made my first loaf Sat. evening and it was very dense. We were still excited and it has been eaten but..watching you tonight explaining things so well, many questions were answered. I will watch again or keep you with me when I make my next loaf. First, I will make waffles. Is your recipe for those in the description area? We are looking so forward to those! Thanks friend!

Julie, I am so grateful for this well-timed video! I had been promising myself that I would start this sourdough adventure after the holidays and getting back into the rhythm of homeschooling chaos! I have used a bread machine for 20 years and really want to try the sourdough method but I've been afraid!! Thank you!

Thank you for sharing this video, Julie. I've been wanting to try sour dough bread, I feel a little intimidated! I haven't even done the starter yet. Your loaves are so beautiful and you make it all look so easy!! I think you did a video a while back on making a starter... I've watched some videos on it, but people have different ways they do it. Hope you're all having a great Monday. 😊

I have learned through my sourdough making process that bad sourdough is still good bread 😂. I use ballerina farms sourdough recipe and I like that it garners 2 loaves. We eat one and I freeze one!

Yes! Still yummy! 😊 Do you have two Dutch ovens? The recipe I use, I could make one big loaf or two smaller, but I only have one Dutch oven, so it makes sense to just make one!

I only have one Dutch oven so I just bake them back to back. It’s only around 1.5 hours baking total so I just plan it in a day I know I’ll be home for awhile in the afternoon. I would love 2 Dutch ovens but I have an old galley kitchen with limited storage so it’s not going to happen.

I tried my first loaf from the farmhouse on Boone recipe but I feel after listening to what you said, several steps are missed out (or maybe I just misread!) but I didn’t leave it in the basket on the counter for any time before putting it in the fridge. Subsequently, it didn’t rise at all in there and the result was a small loaf-though very tasty and texture was great!
Also, I think I’ll try using your temps and times as mine was also rather dark on the bottom and slightly over baked

It’s interesting to see all of the different recipes…the farmhouse on Boone recipe I first followed said to let it bulk rise for 8-24 hours, and I quickly realized that was WAY too long! Also, she didn’t talk about cold proofing, but I think that does help.
I finally watched one of her videos, and I found the explanation to be much better than on her blog, but even still, I enjoyed looking at different recipes and finding what works for others, before fine tuning it for myself 😊

If you live in a VERY hot climate- I’m talking average daily temps of over 100 for 3-4 months straight, where would you store your start overnight?
