    The little hooks along the sides (guards refer to them a coathangers) are there to enable the doors to be opened.

    Nice review Jenny, was looking for a review since like you these have just caught my eye too while looking back through some Hornby catalogues and noting they were new tooling in 2018. I am now fitting Kadees to these type of wagons Get closer and less obvious coupling. I have built a couple of Parkside Coke wagons and have been looking for simulated coke to add for a load (not coal)

    the hooks would be for use of draught horse shunting or capstan shunts

    the boards at the top are steel on BR wagons wood on the original 1930 LMS design,
