I don't disagree and I love those sort of storytelling as well. I have to say that "both are telling the truth" is NOT as insane as it sounds. A person can tell the truth as they know it but that might NOT be the factual truth as their perspective might not have the full story/experience and so on.

So much exposition but I love how they use the holodeck here. I agree with this and Jammer's review.

So This was exciting, I thought for the last decade I have seen every episode of TNG. I heard Clay in a DS9 episode review reference this one, it didn't sound familiar, watched it, and had only the vaguest of recollections. Probably seen it as a child, but remembered nothing. How disappointing this episode was and it only got around to disappointing me today :( I don't mind a Sherlock Holmes solution, but I am bothered how the 3 different perspectives ultimately had NOTHING to do with the resolution, and their contradictions were left unresolved. It's horrible writing that Troi tells Riker she senses 'no deception' from the wife, and they literally never go back to this conversation! Something is a miss here. Riker's version was she came on to him, and the wife's version was essentially attempted rape. For neither her nor Riker to be lying this means that each party is "seeing it the way they want to see it", but it also means the truth must be somewhere in the middle .... like in the version of Apgar/Assistant's version. If that version is true, Riker is actually probably guilty of some Starfleet regulations right? Also in the "trial" the Alien state brought both the wife and assistant's testimony as evidence and none of the heroes brought up those two stories contraction each other?? All the untied loose ends suggest this episode went through re-writes or something. Unfocused mess. I just can't get over how bad it was the different perspectives didn't matter at all!!!

I forget what the episode is called but they do a better version of this in DS9 where Jullian and O'Brian get accused of killing a bunch of people on a science station and its also recreated in fake film or hollow security footage ,

You're a dead man, Apgar! A dead man!

+Paul McClellan I like this episode probably exactly because of how ridiculous it is. I think I have a similar opinion to Jammer's review of this episode.

Why do I have the sneaking feeling that version of events where Riker got his ass kicked by Apgar is the true version of events?

i like i the idea but the naritive style and using Riker didn't work for it at all , i didn't buy any of it from the first scene . If they used someone lesser known but still important to the crew it would have worked much better .

+Matt Guy I can't remember if I mention it in the podcast but having a non regular cast member be the accused would have been much better.

+The Pensky File do you think that would that be compelling enough for the audience? What stake or investment would this new character have with the viewers?

Paul McClellan It'd be an episode more based on the gimmick than characterization. Make the mystery interesting enough and I think it'd work.

Good Episode, but among other Issues, what i seriously don't get is this wholePseudo-Philosophical 'In a way, they all say the Truth'-Nonsense!!
The heck? Some people here are obviously lying; so no, in this case, they can't all say the Truth!
Also, there's something called Personality Files - the Star Fleet has Records about Personality and Mental Health of Everyone, but it sure didnt get used!
It's just a fact someone lied here.
