Above average sequels for Sonic and MegaMan X? Yoshis Island was cursed with having Arzest as game devs for the sequels, but Good-Feel made up for the next few games.
I have to admit its kind of bold to want to double down and improve on what the least liked aspect of the original was and try and write it better. I've been kind of obsessed with this series for the past 3 and a hald years and have been waiting for the console release for a long time so its going to be a weight off my shoulders to finally play this and be able to watch videos I couldn't before for the last one and a half years due to spoiler dodging.
I'm double dipping on this for sure. Freedom Planet 1 was my all time favourite game until the sequel came about on PC in 2022. I've poured in 72 hours on the PC version and I will do it all over again on Switch. I love this game, and more people should too
This looks so much more focused than the first game. Don’t get me wrong, the first game is great but the level design needed some sharpening to suit the characters and the story got a bit bloated. Does this improve upon that??
The levels are generally more focused around specific concepts and scale to the different characters better, but like FP1 I still think the game plays best as Lilac.
Saw this on the eshop so downloaded the demo of the first game and i have no idea why i never played it sooner. Will pick up the bundle when i've cleared some of the backlog.
I love this series but I do kinda agree with Alex at the end, I feel like it’s a bit too long to justify having to restart the entire game to play as a new character. It was fine in 1 because it felt a lot shorter, but this game is fairly lengthy. Arcade Mode helps alleviate the issue a little bit but I personally love the story cutscenes.
Has anyone at Nintendo Life have any technical complaints of your Switch version? From what I know from the latest footages, the Switch version has a bit more loading times than any other versions. You guys have no technical issues?
There's some weird lower fps moments when the camera really zooms out and there's a ton of effects on screen, it feels like 30 fps down from 60, but as this barely ever happens it isn't much of an issue really

I just hope one day, the same can happen for _Freedom Planet 2,_ where someone like Morio Kishimoto or Takashi Iizuka can play and learn from it.
I love that Lilac's double jump spin attack doesn't use her boost meter anymore, and that they buffed her regular melee attacks to make them better than the bigger hitbox spin in terms of DPS. That and the new dodge make the game feel more balanced than the original.
Already bought it on Switch. Absolutely, love it, it's everything I loved about the first game, and more. Loveable characters with different personalities, great dialogue, great story, fast paced platforming, and running segments, creative stage design, incredible bosses, amazing 2D visuals, a wonderful soundtrack, rewarding items, a very well done customizable difficulty feature, and the new hub areas make good rest areas. I'm almost sad I've almost beaten it, but I have three more characters to play as, giving me more reason to replay it, to keep me satisfied until a Freedom Planet 3 comes out hopefully. Don't write this off as a "Sonic fan game," or a "cutesy anime furry style indie game," or anything like that. This is one of the most epic 2D indie games I've played in years. Is it just the footage quality when shown on UA-cam, or is it the game where im seeing quite a bit of 'hitching' (i.e random, large drops in the frame rate) throughout the gameplay? Im hoping it's just the footage playing on UA-cam vs it being a part of the Switch version of the game. I really don't want to have to NOT buy another game I was looking very forward to simply because the Switch can't handle simple 2D pixelart games anymore!
It's probably UA-cam because I've made it a decent chunk through the game without any frame rate issues. The game "slows down" when bosses first appear and when you defeat bosses but that's a stylistic choice to give them some impact
It's been released on Steam for several months now, April 4th is just the release date for the console versions of the game. Personally, I waited to play the game until the Switch version released, since that's the system I have Freedom Planet 1 on.
There is a certain comment here in the thread that have people that give me a good laugh at crybabies that get upset over simply seeing a furry in a game. Developers need to keep this up to continue running those tears down their pitiful faces for not playing as their typical dull human character that you see way too much of already. Been waiting for this game for such a long time for specifically consoles with all of the delays it had. It was finally worth it in the end and I'm enjoying this game a lot. I personally like the hub world as it gives players a chance to talk with NPCs, play available minigames and prepare for the next set of levels instead of rushing to them just to hurriedly beat them. FP1 is around if players want that experience so bad or just beat the story so you can do your arcade mode.
What's laughable about the cut features in this game was modded in for less time in comparison to the actual time of development and it was done by a fan. Let that sink in.
