    It's crazy I thought I was doing it all wrong and tried to implement some complicated methodology while losing my mind 😅 you confirmed it wasn't necessary and I was right all along 🥹 there is very little information about literature based dissertations out there and it's mostly confusing.

    A literature based dissertation does not require a systematic literature review though or does it? From what I understnd that's a whole separate and sort of stricter method in itself. My method would be the comparison of theories regarding a topic and I would explain the literature I selected as you described.

      Not necessarily! A systematic review follows strict protocols (e.g., PRISMA guidelines), while a literature-based dissertation is broader and more flexible in how sources are selected and analysed. If your method is comparing theories, your focus is more on argument and critique rather than systematic searching. It sounds like you’re on the right track by explaining how you selected your literature!

      @@DegreeDoctorDo you have to mention the theories in your research question? Or do you have a research question like "How does social media usage impact body image?" and then go on to answer it by comparing different theories?

    Thank you so much.
    For the integration of theories in the literature review, do we integrat them as ciatations within each theme? or we relate and connect them to the literature at the end of each theme?

    • @DegreeDoctor

      You're very welcome! I would always advise integrating theory throughout each theme rather than leaving it to the end.

    Thank you so much Dr. for this clear guidance in LBR. i have been struggling how to structure my LBR Thesis with your video guide i feel relieved. I am writing as a sociology student about the integration of unaccompanied refugee minors in European host societies taking 3 hosting countries as representing. could you help me how to structure the Themed Chapters ? I am grateful for your help!

      Thanks for your comment, I'm so pleased you found the video helpful! The best thing to do is brainstorm some ideas about your potential themed chapters using the ideas I shared in the video. So, grab a piece of paper and a pen, and give yourself 5 minutes to write down whatever comes to mind for each of the ideas from the video. You will soon have a series of themes that you can use to structure your dissertation. Don't worry if you start off with 10-15 themes, you can always condense that down into 3-5 once you get going. All the best with your dissertation!

      @@DegreeDoctor thank you so much! It was very helpful, is it normal for chapter in lit based dissertations to have a lot of citations? I feel like after every sentence im having to cite something to show proof its not something i just made up. Obviously the discussion section would be my thoughts so there’d be little to no citations but i cant help but feel like im going overboard :’(

    • @DegreeDoctor
      @DegreeDoctor  9 місяців тому +2

      Absolutely, it’s quite common for chapters in literature-based dissertations to have a significant number of citations. Each citation serves to support your arguments and provide evidence for the claims you’re making. It’s important to demonstrate that your ideas are grounded in existing research and scholarship. While the discussion section may rely more on your own analysis and interpretations, the rest of the dissertation should be well-supported by relevant literature. It’s better to err on the side of caution and provide ample citations rather than risk appearing unsubstantiated. Keep up the thorough work!

      @@DegreeDoctor thank you so much! I was worried it would be classed as plagiarism. Is the discussion chapter absolutely necessary? Im a bit confused on how to do it

      @@DegreeDoctor Do you think it's okay to use Harvard citation? I was wondering whether the in-text citations would interrupt the flow of the text too much
