- Meet the ladies of Team Dignitas' female professional Counter-Strike team. They are living large after Dignitas was acquired by the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers franchise in September 2016. The team now enjoys all the perks and resources created for their NBA counterparts, including a state-of-the-art training facility, coaches, chefs, trainers and support staff.

PSA: despite this video putting so much emphasis on "female" for whatever reason, this team DOES NOT play in an all-female league. They play in the regular league just like everyone else.
Then why are all of their competitive games against all female teams?
why... why not just let women compete in the "normal" leagues? I'm confused

SgtAlex Green that's the problem though, because there are no female gamer teams, it would be daunting to join immediately. There would probably be that backlash that occurred to that one zarya player who was accused of cheating because she wasn't bad, or just accused of being bad. Once there is more publicity in female teams, it won't look so masculine then more females will feel comfortable to join in on this revolutionary trend of esport
As long as the Community stays this immature as its now. No female player (including me) is willing to join a team and dedicate time into it. I mean who wants to be sexually harrased and shit on 24/7 ? This comment section and a 2 Minute peek into a Female cs stream should be enough for you guys to see how nerve wrecking it is for us Female Gamers. We want the same as you guys. Play a game, show skill and have fun. Also to the Guy talking about the female only leagues.... if you as a woman join a mixed team and the team advances up to a point where you get recognizable you will get kicked as a woman and be replaced by a dude. Its not really up to us. So its normal to play in the female league right away to play consistant. Been there done that.

I dont quiet understand. why would the team want to kick a person that brought them to the point at which they are now? Do you have an example for that kind of behavior? it seems very counter intuitive.
I agree with the streaming experience, though I guess a lot of women in classical sport have to deal with the fact that others can find them attractive. The same thing happens to male athletes. I guess the best thing to do would just be to ban these people in a stream, but not secluding half the population, right? If you have hooligans at a football match you try to get the hooligans out, not start playing in front of empty stadiums
Its plain and simple. if you are the only woman in a mixed team and the team gets the opportunity to play Pro leagues (since there are no majors with mixed teams) its a logical conclusion to either form a full male or full female team and i mean you can compare male attraction towards females with the attraction of females towards males but you have to admit that Males are way more pervert and creepy at most parts. Ive never watched a stream with a male streamer..lets take freakazoid for an example because hes one of the more attractive males (just my thinking) ... ive never seen women write pervert slurs or "take your shirt off" or some stuff. or "dick out". Im not saying it isnt existant .. its just not as common as males going pervert at women. That isnt the core of the discussion anyways. im sure the Female streamers who are not twitch whores handle these pervs pretty well. The core was: Females in Gaming are often reduced to their looks and behavior and if they are actually skilled, they get slurs like "fine now back to the kitchen" ... Male players have it somewhat easier because the majority of the Community is male and they are not seen as some kind of acessory or being reduced to looks. Just try to look up videos with Female cs players .. its most of the time very demeaning. And thats whats not marketable in the eyes of big Hosts and leagues. I bet you a 100 if the community would change its mind and take female cs more serious .. the more sponsors would jump that train!

That's exactly why it's separate, the skill gap. Women are allowed in major leagues but in general they don't make it very far so they choose to play in the women league.

they are allowed, the actual rankings of the game aren't based on gender. They're just not good enough. Some pleb teams that have next to no income beat these "pro fe teams"like nothing.
They play in female leagues because that's the only way they can win any money. If they play against any regular team, they won't even get into top 10 even if most of the top teams aren't attending. There are like 1-2 girl cs:go players that might be good enough to play in average (top 30) team.

About time this happen! Both for E-sport as a whole, but also for the female league of E-sport. It's great to see how the big teams from diffrent sports, are beginning to take E-sport more serious! lf this trend continues, and NBA, NFL, NHL and the Europeans football league and other big sports, gets more open and starts to make sponsorship for the teams, it will only lead to bigger improvements in E-sport! Both for the players, more teams & us, The Viewers! :D
In response to these comments, theres a dota team with a female player that is over 9k mmr. They're chinese, but she's on a pro team with males.

To be honest having a gender divide in cs isn't really needed, its like saying we should have only female police squads and only male police squads, there's no need like in professional athleticism. (also if you think there's a problem in online game sexism, it's literally just banter if you actually want to get good at the game people will recognise it and won't target you for anything really: age, sex, ethnicity)
mirage For whatever reason, be they biological or social, male teir 1 or even teir 2 teams are way better than the female teams. It's important to remember that there is no male league, only a female and normal one.
So the real question is are the girls just worse then the guys because they don't play aswell or are they biologically worse(?)

The biggest problem with this is that they call the 76er's a major NBA team. When they work with the celtics, warriors, or cavaliers, then you can call this a big deal.

Pineapple overlord I think they are trying to create an environment where girl gamers are welcomed. If you just intergrated the girls into esport, since society still views gaming as a male thing, some girls might be isolated as it may be isolating

John Kirkvold There are just two "leagues" the one for female players and the General league, which is dominated by male players. And yes, female players cant compete with the male players
No but girls and guys tend to hang out with the same sex when gaming. If you look there are definitely plenty of mixed gender esports teams. There just not as notable because none of the are high tier as far as I know. That's what great about esports, the only relevant trait about a player is their skill level
You might not know this - but chess has a female and male category. Why? Well it's a very intellect based "sport", and if you look at something like IQ distributions - in the middle men and women will overlap, but in the extremes (almost all the extremely intelligent - as well as the extremely unintelligent people) it happens to be men
Is there a female league? It kinda sounded a little like there was at the end but E sports in general is not split in a male female at most its an (all) and (female only) league.
So the video title suggests this is important because they're female. If you pay attention, they created their team themselves so they weren't made an all female team by anyone but themselves. Them being a minorty (female in a gaming environment) probably did make them more attractive to invest in, but that shouldn't be the focus.

Hayttman dignitas is all over the place in esports. They have two relevant cs teams, their male and female teams as well as a good LoL team and a DOTA team too.

Look at chess rankings which should be all equal. No stranger there being a female e-sport arena than there being a female chess arena. Women actually got two arenas to compete in, men only one.
There is a female league in chess actually... But it's there to encourage women to play chess rather than segregate them, in chess they can still play in the normal leagues. To put it in perspective, the top female chess player is only in 76th place globally in chess...
I just said females get to compete in two arenas in chess, both women only and mixed, thought that was obvious.
Good for them, but as you can read in the comments and hear from ANYONE who is an actual gamer: There is NO reason for a female league in any game. They don't have a biological disadvantage, so why would you separate genders? And for those who say "better environment for female gamers". First of all, grow some f'n balls. Second, if you are a real female gamer, you don't give a crap about random douchebags being "mean" to you online. If you are a real gamer girl, you understand the environment you surround yourself with just like the guys do. Third, they are talking to pro-gamers here. It's not about them playing against some random kids who call them names online, they play against other professional teams. So those arguments just don't count anyway.

You don't have to wait male's leagues gets way more views then female leagues because the male players are generally more skilled
half the population are females. you gonna need females for more sponsorship deals and ad buys because they are consumer also. this brings in more money for the players including the male players. the 76ers as a business organization know this and it's a smart decision.

I don't agree with seperation. Yea the games are originally played alot more by boys. Espc shooters (I personally know alot of girls that play strategic games - AoE and stuff in particular - though only 1 shooter girl, she was in a 4 boy 1 girl team, they were all very good I think they won that Lan).
So why no mixed teams here? I see the tendency to distance genders too much, I think it's a step backwards just another direction. The genders should be one and coexist like one. No special stuff, just for hype. There is no difference. Of course that's untrue in physical sports where the biological factor comes in (muscles or agility). This is too much artificial political influence. Let's get natural and ascend to better humans, espc in games politics should be left out. I often liked how at Olympia the athletes talked with each other happily in piece even though the countries were in war with each other or similiar. Let's get there.
