One use strange sounds when talking to animals. Or babies. Don't know why. There must be a reason.
I've never tried figure skates, but maybe using actual ice hockey skates makes a difference. You didn't loose the puck though, that pretty good, really. So how many times you had tried skating with the stick and puck?

Ask them figure skaters if a piruette is hard, or an axel, and they would say not at all. I couldn't pull one, not a chance. It seems easy to move the puck with the stick and shoot it too, and it really is. But it still takes a long time to become good in it. Kids usually start playing hockey in the age of 5 to 7, and they're some good in it about 3 - 4 years later.
