Aw, thanks. I make all the music myself and release some of it on bandcamp: theoddcastdark.bandcamp.com/album/the-ones-who-walk-away-from-omelas-original-score
I don’t even like reading that much, and I dislike audio books even more. But you telling this book had gotten me excited to read again! Thank you for your work
I have only recently heard this story (From watching a Retrospective of the Shadow Temple from Occarina of time) and out of all versions, yours was the most atmospheric and emersive which I like in story telling. I find the novel "The Giver" has a simular theme. A story that makes one think and consider their lives to that of the lives of others should really instill a sense of charity and love to those like this child. Anyways, job well done.
Thanks so much for your kind words. My girlfriend shared this story with me, and I immediately knew that I wanted to work on a version. It's a very sonic story, and it achieves a lot of emotion in a very efficient page count. It's the kind of story that changes the reader; it forces one to view from a new perspective like a thought experiment. I think the value in that is immense. Thanks again for listening and sharing your thoughts!
normally, i avoid audiobooks because i find it near impossible to listen to them, or any audio actually because of my short attention span when it comes to listening but urs was so good i was hooked the entire time! i enjoyed alot!
Please please please can you turn the volume down on the music and ambient noises so that it's easier to hear your voice during the reading, thank you in advance
I had already downloaded an audio version of the story, but it really annoyed me because it was narrated fast & there were noises. So lucky me I searched for another version and the search led me here. I loved the story so much & totally loved the way you narrated it. It was perfect 💜💜.
You know, I come back to this reading all the time (really amazing narrator, by the way), and I can't help but think, "These people have a lot of really good excuses for crucifying Jesus." Er, wait, what? Who made me say THAT? Wink.
I think of the poor children abused and trafficked by too many power elites, like those who perished starving in the dark of Marc Dutroux's basement dungeon in Belgium. They seem beyond content with this deal they make amongst themselves, doing dark and terrible acts to maintain the omerta and stabilise their terrible control.
Yeah, it's a bit of a "deal with the devil" for lack of a better comparison. Their own happiness (the greater good) outweighs the suffering of a single child, which they choose to ignore. A few, weighed down by conscience, choose to leave knowing they could never break the cycle. It's more of a thought experiment on conscience than a literal deal with a devil or demon, though.
The story can be interpreted countless ways, depending on the readers' life experience. If I were to make a modern comparison, as an American citizen, it's about the collective west relationship with the global south.
What's your first and lack music track? Amazing soundtrack.

That might be the kindest thing ever said to me on social. Thank you!
Wonderful reading, wonderful sound design. Thank you for doing this story such justice.
I weep for the beauty of Omelas then I rage for the price of beauty.

If you've got any other stories you'd like read, I'm still in a place to take requests.

Maybe it's my audio system, but the background music slightly drowns out your soothing voice.
Here is a link to a voice-only version of the episode. Enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/hqFDwRk-ge4/v-deo.html
Why did I leave Omelas? To know peace.
Facts.
Did they make a deal with a demon or something?
I still don't see how the suffering of an innocent child makes the city so happy, peaceful etc.

Just think of abortion and the deal is not so foreign to postwar Western reality.
