- sometimes, a vampire just has to sing
Many years ago, Brian David Gilbert and Jonah Scott talked about how most of ABBA's music could be sung by Halloween villains. This year, they turned that 3 minute conversation into a full album.

@OwO I’m scared :

I absolutely love how this is a vampire pleading with a mortal to not share their blood with another which implies it’s a consensual relationship between them.
Vlad and Lisa in Castlevania
Yeah, and the lyrics that imply a one-true-pairing, monogamous relationship in the new context would mean he's going to subsist on this person exclusively and stop generally hurting other people who don't consent. It's really rather touching, if a bit possessive and intense.
@@MoonShadowWolfe yesssss… I really love the sense of vulnerability and fear from this character who is clearly not used to being made to feel this way. And the fact that it’s (presumably) a regular human person who has undone him to the point of begging for them to be with him exclusively…. I don’t know, I just find it absolutely beautiful.
@@MemoryOfGravy "don't act like I haven't noticed you going to the blood bank lately."

For reasons I truly don’t understand, this is 100% unironically the favorite song of my 5 year old and 2 year old. The 2 year old demands it on every car ride although he has a hard time saying vampire song so he kinda just yells “Sapphire!” at me until I put this on. This is not just an October thing either. This is just the peak of music to them. I’m so proud.
Easy explanation: your kids have good tastes and they’re going to have the weirdest sense of humor
Years from now: "Mom, did you know there was a non-vampire version of that song?"
This is adorable
musically, this is a gorgeous arrangement. your kids have solid taste and should try out for choir when they get older!
@@w0rmg0rl Yeah, the baroque flourishes do give it a really interesting texture.
The dark rings around his eyes, the mustache, and the lanky frame just make me think of Waluigi. So now I can't unsee Waluigi dressed up as a camp vampire singing a Halloween themed ABBA song.
He's still chasing that role to this day...
Funnily enough, there's an official Waluigi render as a vampire in Mario kart tour

They shoulda put WaluBDG in the Mario movie. He's so cool.
Waluigi is a vampire, new lore.
In early vampire myths, vampires inhumanity caused them to not have feelings, so they would drink blood, which was believed to be the source of emotion. Makes that "don't go wasting your emotions" even more impactful.
@I O just to feel something
Imma finna yoink that fact for my writing, thanks
Knowing Brian, this was probably intentional
so basically blood is vampire antidepressants?
Now I'm feeling ridiculously inspired, thank you

My favorite thing about Brian singing is that he’s in “comedy” mode for like 75% of the song-still good singing, mind you, but casually-and then he transitions into extremely talented tryhard vocalist when it is most essential
If you want to hear Brian shedding all of the comedy away, you can listen to his work in his band The Altogether. Or in a more pop way, Thumbnail, one of his collabs with Louie Zong: ua-cam.com/video/hZmaoIyE7xo/v-deo.html

Fun fact : In the book Dracula actually wears a moustache similar to Brian's.Because of Bela Lugosi, we associate Dracula as a shaved slick guy, but the original one tried to ressemble Vlad's "emperor" style, so, in a way, this is more accurate than 80% of the adaptations.
Well said
And Bram Stoker never specified whether or not Dracula had a beautiful singing voice, so this may as well be considered canon.

YES! I love that playlist! and ya know what the very first song on it is? LAY ALL YOUR LOVE ON ME BY ABBA
Hell yeah!! I found people talking about it! I love that playlist, and now I look forward to running through castles to this new album
Can I just point out the amazingness that is the background animations are in time with the music? That's such a small thing, but so many people ignore it and I really appreciate that Brian paid attention to that small but important detail.
Also, props to that crazy low bass at the end harmony there, seriously impressive.
The choral bit at 4:00 is more beautiful than it has any right to be. Bravo.
Sees Brian with fangs and eyeliner and intense eyes “oh someone’s into that”
you are not wrong 🖐️😔. Combined with the*extremely* goofy faces he makes...🔥🔥😂
this better not awaken anything in me /hj
@@goojesus Your comment is made even better by the fact that there is a Dean Pelton/ ABBA horror correlation.
Mr. Gilbert please I yearn for more monster songs for this month of spooky callings.
BDG should get a cameo in What We Do in the Shadows as a travelling vampire musician
Abba in unusual contexts has got to be my favorite aesthetic
This has “Anything Can Happen on Halloween” energy to the MAX
oh i KNEW that outfit looked familiar
Anything can happen, even an ABBA cover album.
