I've been a SRV fan since the early eighties. I was crushed when we lost him. I have to say I love your appreciation of Stevie's music. He was influential, talented beyond words, and had a heart as big as Texas.
This is a SRV OG .. He wrote this in memory of his very good friend/guitar handler and maker, Charlie Weirz {spelling may be off a bit}. Charlie had passed away suddenly and unexpected also. The white guitar that Stevie switches over to in the beginning of this video, was made by Charlie as a gift to Stevie. Appropriately, Stevie Ray gave it the name 'Charlie'. I understand that this was his 'go-to-guitar' when he performed this song in remembrance of his good friend. During the solo, he could sustain, hold a string tone for so long, you swear that the guitar was weeping for Charlie. FYI .. The one line in the song .. 🎶All the love you passed our way ..🎶 is also engraved on Stevie Ray's headstone. There is so much more to SRV's legacy than just these top favorite video's that most only react to. You have already done two now. So, ya might as well continue with .. #VOODOO CHILE @ Austin City Limits 1989 {I think it was} #TIGHTROPE .. #LEAVE MY LITTLE GIRL ALONE .. #MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB .. #CROSSFIRE .. But there are also some real great audio tracks .. #SHAKE FOR ME {LIVE @ Steamboat 1985} #MANIC DEPRESSION #ALL YOUR LOVE I MISS LOVIN {LIVE @ Steamboat 1985} #TELL ME #LONG WAY FROM HOME {Stevie and big brother Jimmie} #CROSSCUT SAW #THESE BLUES IS KILLING ME This should get ya going a bit ... Stevie switched from a White guitar to a Red guitar, set the foot pedal, had to tune the White guitar , played behind his back horitzontal, played one handed, GAVE A GREAT SPEECH, Sang Great, played with his teeth, broke a tooth, looked for it, Smiled and played with his eyes closed!!!! 😍🔥🎸🐐🐐🐐😢
WOOT WOOT!!! I love me some SRV!! Great reaction to a great performance!!! "Ain't going to give up on love" is another great one from this concert!! I watch or listen to Stevie every day, his music takes me to a peaceful place! "Tightrope" from Austin concert is SOO powerful! Most music you just "hear" Stevies music.......you FEEL! Thank you!
He was such a raw/empathetic person and you can feel it in the music. Lenny or Little Wing next (both from the live El Mocambo show) whenever you're able to, just so good. I've been watching reaction videos to every genre for years now & SRV is probably my favorite rabbit hole people go down.. the dude forced me to go out and buy a guitar and I never put it down lmao. Some musicians just hit you different
Stevie was a humble and kind he respected the blues that come before him and they respected him even B B King was really impressed with how he plays the guitar BB said when Stevie played it just flowed out of him
CAPITOL Reaction !! ...to this touching original dedication to a friend. How much strength did it take to hold that guitar(playing it)vertically, the other arm at his side? His sound, style, swagger. And sooo smooth. Every live performance is gift in some way... "Little Wing"el Macombo. "Change It"&"Aint gone n gjve up on Love" Capitol Theatre. "Dirty Pool" Montreux Jazz Fest. UR doing great. More SRV, we can never get enuf. More SRV.
Love the genuine heartfelt reaction! Stevie used crazy thick strings (most people play .9 mm, some go to .10 or .11 - SRV used .13, its a massive part of his immense & instantly recognizable tone). Most players use .9 gage;. For an average player like me to even sound 1 note decently on .13 gage strings would be extremely difficult, let alone all of the insane bends and total dominance Stevie has over his entire guitar. The strings are just one of many many unique and cool parts of his whole story and why he is who/how he is. Thanks for this and much peace/
Stevie used heavier gauge guitar strings than the standard most guitar players use{d} .. 11, 12 .. He was using 13's and even as high as 17's. They were thicker which gave him a heavier, richer sound, but the tone also matched his vocal range and tone. It takes very strong hands and fingers to bend those strings. As far as his fingers bleeding .. that is a true story. During performances, his fingers would bleed. So, during intermission, Stevie would go back stage and 'super glue' his finger tips for cushioning, and stop the bleeding, than come back out and play. FYI .. Stevie was a self-taught guitar player starting at the age of 7. He learned to play 'by ear'. He would put on the records he had at home of other artists and practice their music for hours until he knew them by heart {and soul} .. He never took any lessons and never knew how to read music. Here is the video of that 'other' artist who also played w/his teeth... ua-cam.com/video/RAf7c6rJdHg/v-deo.html .. He did it a few years before Stevie. However, Stevie was a huge fan and admirer of this man.
He played guitar all day and all night, all the time. My brother-in-law went to the same high school as Stevie and said he brought his guitar to school every day and fell asleep in class because he was playing in the clubs at night. He kept super glue with him at gigs because occasionally he’d hit the strings wrong and rip the skin off his fingertips. He’d put glue on his fingertips, wait half a minute, and keep playing. I’ve seen him do it. He created the song new every time, never played it the same way twice.
Stevie wrote this song after the untimely death of his great friend and mentor, Charly Wirz. The song is a tribute to Charly and expresses how much he truly missed him.😢
I saw him in concert back in the 80s and he was a genius on the guitar a long with his band double trouble that's why he is in the rock and roll hall of fame and I would put him at the top a long with jimmy Hendricks at number one he was incredible
You have to Check out Tin Pan Alley with another Goat Johnny Copeland, it's Stevie's beat Performance ❤❤❤RIP to the both of them ❤❤❤❤, I will always love Stevie ❤❤❤
He aways said I play every show like it was his last. He always gave 150 % . It was a bout his guitar tech who died named Charlie he made that white guitar for Stevie Ray.❤❤ He was defistated when he died he named the guitar adter him. ❤❤ He was a good friend to us we loved him very much we still miss him to. ❤❤ He chipped his tooth doin that. He can play that song called thunder struck with one hand. He was playin' in that gig with one hand. He practiced 7 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year since he was 6 years old. ❤❤
Had to subscribe when i saw Stevie...great reaction..i think you smiled through the whole thing lol! Please react to SRV ...Ain't Gon Give Up On Love and Change It both live at The Capitol Theatre please! 💞✌️
Another mind blowing clip from SRV is his "Soundcheck 1986" but don't forget Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland - It's the meanest blues duo you'll ever hear! (Movie Reaction MUST is Blues Brothers - what a soundtrack, pay attention!)
New subscriber here, #986. You're well on your way to 1k! Your reactions are real, and I'm lifted by seeing the pure joy that great music gives to all of us. Thanks for sharing your reactions.
Broke a string and a tooth during performance. Plus as Stevie sobered up, every live performance of this song, he changed the speech part, all profound!
He played till 7 pm till 8 am. He used 13 gage strings they tear up your fingers. He skin grafted his fingers when his calises would fall off. He used bakein powder super glue and a nail file to file down any rough edges so they did'nt get caught on the strings. He did that alot. I should know I am his little sister. Little sister is a good song to it was bout me. Check it out. String break in Austin Texas. It's Awesome! Smothest guitar change in history. It was bout his Guitar Tech who died of a heart attack. It really knocked Stevie down for a long time. He couldn't even say his name without cryin'. Tge white guitar he's playun' with is called Charlie. Charlie made that guitar for Stivie on year for a Christmas present. Stevie loved it. He wrote that song for Charlie. Who he loved like a brother. ❤❤❤❤
Please quit saying you’re his sister!! It’s total BS!!! Why do you constantly do this???? Stevie only had one brother, Jimmie Vaughan. It’s an easy Google to find that out!!!
To truly appreciate SRV then you really need to check out Jimi Hendrix, the GOAT. Jimi was just 27 yrs old when he died on September 18 1970. Jimi was a pioneer in every single way imaginable. Hey Joe at the Monterey Pop Festival, Johnny B Good and/or Purple Haze live at Berkeley, Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock...... Doesn't really matter, you will not be disappointed at all. You owe it to yourself to check out Jimi Hendrix
This is true he used crazy glue and made his own callous kits and when one would pop off he would replace it . I don’t if you know much about guitar strings but he played special ordered 13 gauge strings which is about the thickness of a bass guitar strings and he would take and bend them that they was nothing
Ya'll wanna see what he could really do with a guitar. Check out live at the festival Stevie Ray Vaughan 3rd stone from the sun. Mind blower. Ya'll got your warnin'. ❤❤
It’s great, who SRV was, he was a beautiful person. I recommend Voodoo Chile, Texas Flood, and really what is saved from Montreux 1980, then Montreux 1985, or the second time.
He played for 8 hours when he was 14 years old. He never took it off his neck. He He played with 13 gage strings they tear up your fingers. He had inch holes in his finger tips he would use backin' power and super glue and when he played to hard his calices would fall off he skin grafted his figers back so he could play again. He would carry kit wirh him on the road. Which was super glue bakin' powder and a file. ❤❤
Damn 700 subscribers way to go, keep on climbing, Oh boy here we go again with abother babger, they beat me to this, this is great, this is definitely a song for those days when you want to relax, shut everything out and play, there we go behind the back absolutely wild, 🤯🤯, gets me every time, stevie speaks the truth, what his tounge, wow, I'm done, i had to pause, exactly right this is insane wild, he definitely deserves a standing ovation, wow, lol lol what what, yes definitely left you speechless, great song, thanks, hey I know you love guitar solos, so you may want to try Eddie Van Halen Eruption, it's like 13 minutes long.
@@stillmrdoge yeah you can see him ask his guitar guy to come pick it up lol he also switched out the first guitar. Def do voodoo chile next I recommend the one from el mocambo.
You need to listen to voodoo child from Stevie Ray and you need to compare it with Jimmy in an interview Jimmy was asked about Stevie Ray and in Jimmy's own words with Stevie Ray could probably play it better than I can quote
He changed guitars because the 1st one was out of tune he changed it for the white one and its name is Charlie it was named after the man that built it this song Stevie wrote for his friend and guitar tech Charlie that passed away from a heart attack and if you look close on the back you will see a topless Hula girl
Play in order Righteous Brothers I just want to make love to you. Summertime By Bobby last most famous Un Chained Melody. Jimmie and Stevie were guitar Gods I knew most of em!
I'm sure you heard Stevie wrote this song for his friend and mentor Charlie Wirz in 1976who owned a music shop in Dallas Texas and passed away in 1985. The white guitar was made for Stevie by Charlie and Stevie's guitar tech Rene Martinez, the guitar was made in 1983 it was a white stratocaster and the heel plate says To Stevie Ray Vaughan More In 84' this song was released in 1985. Everyone said Stevie could play all day and get up the next morning and play again. Stevie had so many calluses they would come off a his guitar tech Rene Martinez showed Stevie to use super glue and glue the callus to good skin and put it on the spot the callus back on the ripped skin. Stevie's guitar picks were taped on the side of his microphone but when he bends down he is adjusting his wha- wha peddle. I don't know if you noticed but Stevie switched guitars in the beginning and lost a cap and when he's swaggering around he's actually looking for his tooth and mouthes to his tech his tooth fell out It's gone Sorry because the tech is the one who has to find it and pick it up and give it to Stevie. Alot of people say he switch guitars because he always played Charlie when he played this song but at the end he says he couldn't get his guitar in tune and I don't think Stevie would start playing his guitar he called Red and then say to himself Ops this isn't Charlie and switch the guitar 😂 😂 because Stevie never learned to read music he could play without looking at it, he said if he had to look at the strings it would mess him up. Just to say how great Double Trouble was Stevie never used a play list because he said he didn't know what he was going to play or how until he was on stage so Double Trouble had to know in a split second what and how Stevie was going to play without but they never missed a beat, they could really read and feed off each other. You have to watch Albert King and Stevie Ray in session and watch the love and respect each other. Stevie Ray Vaughan was abused by his father who was an alcoholic and terrorized his family and his brother Jimmie said Stevie always got it the worst. Stevie started drinking at the age of 7 and got really heavy into drugs. Stevie and Tommy Shannon were in really bad shape when after a show they were looking for a store to buy alcohol and couldn't find one and Stevie started vomiting blood. Stevie had a break down and went into Eric Clapton rehab center and got clean and helped others with his story. I believe Stevie started all of it when his father would beat him, coming from a very abusive home myself you ask yourself WHY? Stevie overcame all that and came out the other side bigger and better for it. He was clean for 4 yrs when sadly his life was cut short at the age of 35. He was never an angry or hateful person he love everyone hole heartily. Sorry I did it again, I didn't mean to make you read so much but I'm a huge Stevie fan for over 40 yrs and I got my information out of Stevie and Jimmie's mouthes in interviews and their stories so I would know for sure what I learned. Another great reaction, I love how easy going and respectful you are to your viewers, Another great one is Look At Little Sister written by Hank Ballard and The Midnighters released in 1959.
Some people will say Jimi Hendrix was the first guitarist to do these tricks with the guitar and yes he played with his teeth but Stevie had a good friend named Buddy Guy, Buddy Guy performed with Stevie the night he died. Buddy Guy's career started in the 1960's he started performing with another great Blues guitarist named Muddy Watters for Chess records. In 1965 Eric Clapton was at The Marquee Club in London when Buddy Guy was playing, he watched Buddy Guy pick his guitar ( you'll see SRV doing that alot) Buddy Guy play his guitar behind his head and with his teeth. My husband and I went to see Buddy Guy about 4 years ago in Traverse City Michigan and I couldn't believe my eyes, he was sweating so bad he grabbed a towel wiped his face and actually started playing his guitar with the towel 😮😮😮, he grabbed the drummers drum stick and started playing with that to, he is amazing. Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton said when they played with Stevie that Stevie would play for hours at the same pace he started and never get tired, bending and breaking 13 gage strings. Stevie was amazing, I love the Blues and I started with Stevie Ray Vaughan THE GOAT!

God wanted guitar lessons,no he lost a tooth in that performance
It was jimmy Hendricks that played with his Tung not teeth
Play in order Righteous Brothers I just want to make love to you. Summertime By Bobby last most famous Un Chained Melody. Jimmie and Stevie were guitar Gods I knew most of em!
He changes guitar without anyone really noticing his crew was top notch!!
It is hard to believe he failed music class in school because he could not read music.
He used super glue on his fingers
Legend
We missed out on 30 years of peak SRV music
