I'm glad I came across your channel. I just purchased what I believe to be the last Pedersoli trade musket in America. I've been searching for awhile 🙄 and finally found one 😀. Very psyched!
Most vent holes on production guns come undersized. I recommend taking a #73 size drill bit and enlarge the vent. That combined with really polishing the lock components should improve your slow ignition. Also don't overfill the pan. Keeping priming powder to a minimum also will help ignition.
Thank you. I’m planning on doing some more shooting videos with this. I’m hoping to do one with the development of a round ball load. I have a few different sizes and want to see how they perform. I feel like the polishing did make it a bit faster. Many of the shots were especially instant which was not the way it was out of the box. A few of the shots were slow though.
I have the same gun and actually was blessed with a really good lock in mine but I agree with the front sight. Mine actually came out so I replaced mine with a turtle front sight from Track of the Wolf. Mine was pretty much my dedicated small game gun last year and I bagged several squirrels with it.
If your vent hole are positioned almost level with your pan, it will cause a fuse like burning into the vent. If it is the case you may have to install a new vent liner with the propet size vent hole. It should be slightly above the base of the pan. You want a flash not a fuse like ignition. Also don"t over fill your pan, use less than half full priming. You can also use a finer grain priming powder with a properly positioned and sharp flint.
The vent hole is above the level of the pan. It’s in the sunrise position. Since I polished the moving parts this gun ignites instantly. Can’t feel any delay anymore.
@@finflask1862 good deal. Flinters at times require alittle magic to get them to be consistant. When they are set up correctly they can be a joy to shoot.
Can you switch the lock over with a US made Jim chambers lock ? Because I’m sure you will never get it as fast as the original flintlocks ! Like pedersoli BPCR plenty of people winning competitions with them but they aren’t using pedesoli long range sights > they use American made sights Ike Baldwin or Kelly !
I don’t know if I can drop in a chambers lock. I’m pretty sure I can inlet a a new one though. Something like that is not really on my radar though. It shoots pretty good now and I’m content with it as is for the time being. I’m hoping to get a chambers New England Fowler at some point this year.
@justin5002 you still will have to do a bunch of inletting and chance messing things up. I have chambers L&R and pedersoli locks. To be honest pedersoli makes a pretty nice lock.

1/16”, #53 drill for flash hole is also a recommended option.
Good and clear presentation. Thanks for posting. Please let us know if it made a difference. Suggest adding an update to your description above.

It’s good that you had a decent lock from the factory. Mine is ok now, but it definitely needs the trigger worked on. It’s so heavy! How is yours?
Great item.
Thanks. It’s been running well ever since

I know ToTW sells an L&R lock that just about drops in….
