Octave4Plus makes super thin & strong strings (both plain steel & wound) that can tune up super high so maybe on the new 12 string Acoustic-Electric Cigar Box Guitar you could use an Octave4Plus all Octaves Tuned 12 string Guitar string set in Double Octave B Standard Tuning. Double Octave B Standard Tuning would be a Perfect Fourth below a Normal Guitar on the Regular Strings & Perfect Fifth above a Normal Guitar on the Octave Strings so it can also be called a 12 String Bari-Alto, the sound of this instrument falls in between a Harpsichord & a Bandoneon (aka Tango Concertina which has 2 Ranks of Reeds & all the notes sound in Octaves). Adding a Truss Rod to the new neck (a Radius should help) & Reinforcing the Bracing are the key elements when making Cigar Box Guitars w/ more than 4 strings or if you decide to convert a Cigar Box Guitar w/ 3 (or 4) strings to have more strings than that. In fact I've seen a lot of Tenor Guitars that have been converted to 6 string Grand Parlor Guitars by making new necks that have Truss Rods & reinforcing the bracing. I've seen a lot of 6 String Acoustic Guitars that have been converted to 7 string Guitars & what they did was to tighten that truss rod up a bit & to put a steeper radius in the Fretboard. I've also seen a lot of Gibson B-25 6 String Guitars that have been converted to 12 string Guitars, they made an extension for the Headstock, cranked the truss rod tension up, & reinforced the bracing.
beginnercbg I'm converting my 4 string Cigar Box Guitar into a 6 string Cigar Box Guitar, more specifically a 6 string Cigar Box Guitar in B Flat, it's tuned a step below EADGBE (so DGCFAD) w/ Magma GAT-D Strings.
Converting a 3 (4, or even so 5) string CBG into a 6 (or more) String would require making a new neck, adding a truss rod, & also re-bracing it by reinforcing the Bracing.
beginnercbg How about a 7 String Cigar Box Guitar tuned D, G, B, D, G, B, D like a Russian Guitar? So whatever you do on strings 7 through 4 you can do on strings 4 through 1 so you can play your music an Octave up.
There's a Gap between the 4 and 6 String Cigar Box Guitars that needs to be filled the 5 String CBG plectrum Guitar. I then moved from that to a 6 String CBG and I decided to go another step further to a 7 String CBG with a Low B. I use half step Down tunings cause I can't sing the high notes.
I made a version that has Multiple multi-octave Sextuple Courses (6 Strings per course) like a Chelian Guitarron, and it's strung with all Nylon Strings to keep the tension down.
@@beginnercbg I went down another half step from Open D to Open Db on my Blues Box Guitar, & I'm using Ball End Nylon Strings to keep the tension down. I'm planning on converting it into a 6 String, if I do that I'll have to make a new neck, & use Thomastik KF110 Flatwound Acoustic Guitar Strings. I'll also have to keep it tuned down a half step to Eb Standard to keep the tension down.
How about a 6 string Cigar Box Guitar in B Flat? It's tuned a step lower than a Normal 6 string Guitar so it's D, G, C, F, A, D w/ Magma GAT-D Strings.

I appreciate your effort to do the things which I have only considered.
It was fun to try out different tunings. I'd encourage you to have a go
@@beginnercbg I have one in E and one in G. I am waiting on a four string and I will experiment greatly with it.
Yes 4 strings offers even more choice, not just for open tunings. Have fun
Very thorough informative vid, thanks. And i love chickenbone john!
Glad you found it helpful and I'm a big fan of his too
Great lesson👍 I love the versatility of the cigar box guitar
Thanks very much. There's so much to explore :)

Sounds very interesting. Are you playing fretted or with a slide on the guitars with more than 4 strings? And do they have a truss rod?
@@beginnercbg I play them both ways and those JN Cask Cigar Box Guitars have Truss Rods. I've added a Truss Rod

You need a capo
I was thinking of trying a capo on a video quite soon.
@@beginnercbg A capo bypasses the need to tune up so handy tool.
