My wife adds: To cover box springs put an elasticized bottom sheet over the box springs under the mattress and stretched over the box springs. This covers up the ugly box springs and can match or complement your bedding.
If I had to guess I'd say "Mom" took a ceramics class. Back in the day a lot of ladies fed their creative side by going to a ceramics class. They would pick out a mould, paint it, glaze it, and then the ceramics teacher would fire it for them. Many, many people would make one of those Christmas trees that everyone is salivating over now!
I remember doing this, and also doing them at home and spraying the piece with a clear acrylic spray to seal it. I still have a Dickins Scrooge village that I painted over the course of several winters about 30 years ago!
My grandmother made one & I wish I had it - really don’t know what happened to it - my grandparents would keep us 3 little girls for the whole summer & she took us to ceramics with the old ladies & we loved it !
Merry Christmas Kristen and family! Be blessed for unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders, He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Hallelujah Jesus!
Thank you Kristen for your Christmas greeting. My husband and I have no children and are alone this Christmas. It’s been a nice day, but is the first time we’ve not been with any family. Life is changing for us as we age for sure. Despite being without family, we are blessed in many other ways. Thanks so much for acknowledging this in your message. Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family!
I really admire your ability to live intentionally and stick to a budget and yet find such amazing items! I'm so excited for you that you found a pheasant. It is very nicely painted. And the quail is a bonus! I hope you had a blessed time with family and are enjoying your time off. 🤗
Hi Kristen! You found some great finds!!I couldn't help but notice your dresser in the background and I think it is beautiful!I love the carved pattern and how the drawers are styled in their structure!!!I hope you and yours have a very happy holiday season!!😁🍭🎄🍭🎅🍭🤶🍭
MERRY CHRISTMAS Kristen ! Love the Pheasant and Quail . How fabulous those dresses are on you! You really did the best items , love that you share your finds with us. Enjoy…ENJOY your month off, you so deserve to have down time ! Prayers, love and hugs ! ❄️❄️🌲🌲❄️❄️ ( Yes insanely windy in New York State this year ….crazy)
Hi, on the Leather Carry All, some people use 'shoe polish' on them to cover up the wear, just like on shoes. It is a suggestion, you decide. Like both of the dresses, they fit you well for sure. You are fortunate to have found them. Merry Christmas (you can say that until the 6th of January, Little Christmas) and a Blessed Happy New Year to you and yours. God Bless, Sherry :)
Winding down my Christmas day with coffee ☕, watching my favorite Utuber.Merry Christmas everyone and hope your day was really blessed 🎄☺️....Kristan looks so beautiful in those dresses ,especially the blue one 👗
I love that you got a dictionary! Origins, synonyms, plurals, variations, etc. I could sit and read a dictionary for 30 minutes at a time. Not so on the internet!
I just discovered your channel and watched a few of your videos and I really like them. You have an adorable house with adorable little girls, and I will be looking forward to watching more after you get back to UA-cam in February. I am also from the Midwest.(Wisconsin)
For whatever reason the Christmas Home Tour video popped up. After that, I watched the “How we met” video. Your sweet spirits and Christian witnesses won me over. I’ve been watching the stories of your homes now and will be subscribing.
The quail was a mass produced piece and came with smaller baby one. I have the same set. I think they were made in the 60s or 70s. They came in white as well.
Merry Christmas Kristen. Hope you have a peaceful and happy Christmas 🎄. I look forward to another year of watching your videos. You are so beautiful inside and out ❤️
I enjoyed the video. Your dresses are lovely. Even though I have a phobia about birds, your two birds finds are nice. The pheasant is beautifully painted. They will be great to add to your decor.
Those dresses look great, on you !! Merry Christmas, sweetheart, to you and your family. Thank you, for allowing us into your life, and for sharing your beautiful home.
If you haven’t ever read, “ A Man Called Peter”, I think you will like it. Peter is Peter Marshall and it’s biography. I love the pheasants and quail and have a few different ones I have collected.
I would've picked up the quail & pheasant figurines as well! Very nice pieces! You should read the book titled A Man Called Peter. I would probably read the book with captain in the title. Love the books you found though! Dresses are fabulous!!!!
I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and that your time "off" next month is exactly what you need. Thank you for sharing your thrift videos, what great treasures you found! Your ceramic quail is vintage and was made in Japan. I have a collection of them and I use them in my fall décor. The smallest one I have is about 1 1/2 inches and the largest maybe 6 1/2 inches.
Merry Christmas to you and your family, Kristen. I love the way you thrift shop. You have proven that it doesn’t take a lot of money to have a beautiful home. You only buy what you love and need. I love everything that you trifted and I am definitely going to keep my eye open for a taxidermist pheasant for you while I am out thrifting. I saw one in the last few months and I wish I had known because I would’ve picked it up for you. I love your videos and the stories of your family.
@@KristenHoffman I’m in Pennsylvania but wish I was you neighbor. I’ll keep my eye open for that pheasant for you though. I’m 72 and in the midst of doing the Swedish Death cleaning. It’s where you get rid of everything that you have no use for so when you pass your children don’t have to clean out the house. Lol It’s not as gruesome as it sounds. I wish you lived closer because you could go through all my vintage stuff that my kids don’t want. I may be old but I’m not elderly and I have a good, healthy and happy life. I now thrift like you. I have to absolutely love it and it has to have a reason to come into my house. When I bring some thing in, something has to go out.
I sell vintage and holland mold as well as atlantic mold were kits youd buy and paint and bake them at home. So this lady bought it and made it at home for lynn.
A Man Called Peter is a wonderful book, and still in print today. I read it years ago and it sticks with me still. It's about Peter Marshall an incredible man of God, written by his wife Katherine. I hope you read it! I just looked it up and it was written in 1951, if you have a copy from that date, that's a first edition, so pretty special.
I am not a Christian (any longer-I was raised that way) so I don’t celebrate this day the same way you do. I celebrate Yule/Winter Solstice (as I am a Pagean)! I love that you openly welcome people into your beliefs and celebrations so I hope you don’t mind me welcoming you to mine! Happy Yule (and, of course, Merry Christmas). I hope you had the most wonderful day celebrating with your lovely family. I enjoyed watching the haul!
Merry Christmas. I don’t know how you find such good stuff. All the Goodwill’s we visit are new. And they all have high prices. I haven’t found a good thrift store since we moved. We go to a consignment store, I love going in there. I wanted to go this week. But my son in law is coming from out of town tomorrow. And I’m not sure how long he will stay. We had a fun Christmas. My grandkids had my house a mess. And my youngest granddaughter s fourteen months, she had markers too. We bought them for her older brother and sister. She had marker all over her hands. She’s not walking yet. But she gets around, rather quickly. She loves playing with our dog’s toys. You can’t turn your back on her.
I was going to have a hissy fit if you didn't buy the pheasant from 1967, it is gorgeous! Merry Christmas. I have a set a quails from my mom like the one you found. They are from the mid 1960's. Merry Christmas!
This is a great haul! A Man Called Peter is a great book about Peter Marshall. He was chaplain of the US Senate and a man of great faith, this is his biography.
Your thrift stores have nice stuff up in northern Ontario Canada we have just junky stuff & the very FEW antique/vintage stores are so $$$$$$. So envious
Great dresses! Ivy may have artistic talent like mom. We shall see. Rubbing alcohol might remove the paint stains, careful though. Sunshine is another good stain remover. Love the leather bag. Looking for one too, but gosh my thrift stores are not like yours. Enjoying your videos. See you soon.
@Sheila Collins catherine Marshall also wrote the book Christy, which is based on the experiences of her grandmother (if I remember correctly) who taught school in the remote mountain areas of the Appalachians. Its been a while since Ive reread it, but its so good that Ive read it several times.

Right, my Mother did that…have her ceramic Christmas tree with the light bulb inside to show of the plastic coloured lights & a quail like that one.
My grandmother made one & I wish I had it - really don’t know what happened to it - my grandparents would keep us 3 little girls for the whole summer & she took us to ceramics with the old ladies & we loved it !
My grandma has one too!

Merry Christmas, Susan! I'm sure you two will find warmth in each other. Marriage is a beautiful thing!

Merry Christmas! Will you miss seeing you for sure, but enjoy your time off!
That blue dress is gorgeous!
If I remember correctly, those bowls with the handles (bail handles) were sold as a set of 3. They were used for display in country decor.
I love it!

One way to cover a box springs is to put a fitted sheet on it. That’s what I have done & it works great.
I just discovered your channel and watched a few of your videos and I really like them. You have an adorable house with adorable little girls, and I will be looking forward to watching more after you get back to UA-cam in February. I am also from the Midwest.(Wisconsin)
We love living in the Midwest!
Your quail looks like Otagiri made in Japan. They are collectible. Cute!
I have a set of quail that look just like it. I bought them at a garage sale for $1. I don’t see a marking on them though. I have a thing for birds.
Yes I have the set of this quail and they are indeed Otagiri. Got mine at an estate sale.
Great finds. Maybe see if you can find a gunter who can get you a pheasant. Taxidermy is expensive but at least you get a fresh one.

Many good choices such as the pheasant. It's fun going along on your treasure hunts. I especially love the Calvin Klein dress, so classic.
Thank you!
I would have grabbed that quail and the pheasant too!!! You find such great things. Loved the pillowcase also ❤️
Thank you, Sherry!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all❣️🎉
If you put a bedskirt on the box springs, it will take the "sting"
away from having no bedskirt. I used that trick happily for years!
Love that pheasant. We have a taxidermy pheasant that my grandfather had done along time ago.
Merry Christmas Kristen. Hope you have a peaceful and happy Christmas 🎄. I look forward to another year of watching your videos. You are so beautiful inside and out ❤️
Merry Christmas, Debby!
I would have bought the white and blue lamp. So pretty 😍
My husband would love the pheasant & quail. We have several in our decor. Merry Christmas. I love your style & decorating.
I enjoyed the video. Your dresses are lovely. Even though I have a phobia about birds, your two birds finds are nice. The pheasant is beautifully painted. They will be great to add to your decor.
I saw those birds you got. Almost bought them, but I have enough, so I left them there. Glad you found them. Hope you had a Merry Christmas.
It was meant to be!
That blue dress was amazing. Loved those turkey chargers!
"A Man Called Peter" is one of my favorite books and movies. About the great Scottish Presbyterian minister, Peter Marshall. You'd love it! 💜
Merry Christmas to you and to your family ,may you have a Blessed Christmas and New Year.🎄❄️
Love the pheasant hen, the little partridge would be great for a Christmas vignette.
Great idea!

Me too!
Great haul Kristen! You are my favorite thrifting UA-cam! You have great taste and a beautiful home. Hope your Holiday's were wonderful!
No way?! That is so kind of you to say!
Try lestoil to get the marker out of fabric. Works well on ink

I loved that oval metal green homestead plate you could have hung it on the wall, it would look pretty in your 🏠 house. It was $1.98.
Love, love, LOVE the pheasant!!!!🪶 Great finds!
Merry Christmas, Tessa!
Merry Christmas! Those brass baskets would have come home with me.
What a great haul! Those dresses are beautiful. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Merry Christmas, Jeannie!

Merry Christmas, Laury!
Merry Christmas Kristen. I enjoy seeing your thrifted purchases.

One of those books is the same age as me( (from 1953) so definitely an antique. 😉🤣
Love your videos , I know you said dove by Behr for your walls , what is your trim color 🥰🥰☺️
I'm not sure! Our contractor just called it a painter's white.
I have that quail with its baby quail in white ceramic. They look lovely in a glass lantern /cloche. Just an idea❤
Some really neat finds in that store! I think buyers remorse is when you buy something and regret buying it.
That was my thought when she said it. But I guess we know what she meant. 😏
I love the pheasant!
Merry Christmas 🙏🏻💕
I found a taxidermy bobwhite quail in a glass cloche for $8.00 at our local thrift store, so there is hope to find your pheasant!
Merry Christmas and happy new year
Merry Christmas, Margaret!
The dresses looked great on you
Thank you!!
