As a Sub-Zero main who only plays him and has hit Elder God all 3 seasons, I can say you did a good job. His back 2 is very unsafe but with kameos such as Kung Lao, Sareena, etc you can cancel into your Kameo or slide to keep them guessing. I personally use Sareena or Kung Lao mainly but like Sektor as well as hit rockets keep you safe and add damage mid juggle combos. He's definitely bottom 5 but has the most meter less damage in the game hitting around 35 to 40% with the right Kameo. Even with his scaling being horrible, I'm a character loyalist and will always find ways to make him work. ❄️🥶☃️
Sub main here as well, I mained him in S1, and mained Smoke in S2. I understand smoke well into S3 but missed playing SubZero (both characters are my favorite in the series). Had Smoke had some cooler designs maybe id still roll him but man did I miss Sub's design (I use MKDA skin), and his playstyle.
I'm not good enough to be Elder God (yet?), I use to use frost but the freeze peels back damage some. I'm used to sareena but feel like more options are waiting so I've picked up Sonya.
What are your thoughts on Sonya with Sub? I like that I can F3,4 call her in and do 2,1,2 for 23% damage. I know that's not a ton or flashy, but its so easy to knock off around a quarter life bar from a low kick.
You hold the elder God rank though, if you have any tips for your fellow Lin Kuei I'd appreciate it 🙏

Cyrax is also a very good kameo for sub simply because of his chopper ability allowing you to get 45% plus in the corner off of a slide, which can be canceled into from any kick or his b2 overhead, which catches most people off guard the first few times since you have so little time to react if you block the overhead. His net is also good for b2 combos if you manage to catch someone with it. Also combos that utilize b2 from the ground can use 3 or 4 with proper timing once you land to save ice klone to prevent scaling and use it later in the corner if you have cyrax to extend.
I've been a Sub-Zero main since i first played mashing on Genesis. The reason people would say he's bottom 5 is because hes not over powerful. Sub-Zero half of his arsenal is out thinking your opponent which we call the Ice Machine. He is definitely top-tiered if you have patience and can flawless without relying on just button inputs and mashing.

A good guide, just a few things to add and if u did speak about it I'll delete this comment lol, I've played only subzero since the beta and a few things I've learnt is 21 actually scales his combo damage, the sareena combo you shown, 12 does more damage as a punish starter than 21, 21 can actually cost you around 2% that you can lose.
B3clone can break armor
34 has enough hid advantage in the corner to set up a clone.
For example (with sareena) F12 bk b2 b2 b2 34 and then do clone, if u perform the quickest forward dash into grab u can throw them into the clone (you don't have to spend bar on the clone) you can them mix that with your mid but it's a gimmick
And yeah s2 is his best stagger which sub relies on because of his gaps, overall good guide
You told no lies with this comment. 21 scales like a mf so the go-to punish should either be 12 or S4.
Also, for your clone throw, make sure you do forward throw because it pulls the opponent back into the clone and works even if teched.
@@mrAPchem yeah I forgot to add the forward throw part, honestly I have around 560 hours on this game and about 100 on my alt and I strictly play sub (mained him for 16) and this is probably the worse he's been in the nrs era, I'd much rather play mk1 sub where my clone was more consistent and safe then mk1, i could be plus 50 and do my clone and still get punished.....
@@mrAPchem it's probably why I don't enjoy mk1 so much is because I only play sub, I've tried raiden once, kenshi a few times and I feel like I can play yolo with them(because the game allows them too) yet when I play sub, i have to make every correct read and play by the timer aswell and play lame by running away

Sonya is one of the 5 or so kameos that gives not just a wakeup but a reversal. So as a meterless option its quite good.
Her leg grab is really good as a reversal for gaps. Its the highest damage kameo reversal at 10%, has crazy high hit advantage, and as of the most recent update is only -9 unless you upblock which makes it pretty difficult to punish.
Its also important to note that when you armor you are trading with an attack as well, so if you deal 11% with an armor but ate a 5% string hit you only profit 6% hp wise, and they also cant be used at 1hp since you will die. Kameo reversals/wakeups are completely invincible on the main character so when sonya hits for 10% on hers its raw damage and not a trade. (If the kameo gets hit however, you will lose invulnerability and begin getting combod).
Kameo wakeups are not very good imo, but as reversals they can be very useful for meterless ways to get out, and as ways to exploit gaps without trading.

Great video man.. MK 1 is my favorite fighter in a long time because I rarely play them but MK and killer instinct always stuck with me. I love sub zero all around the border and he’s my favorite MK character in general so this will be helpfully 🔥👊🏽 you earned a sub my guy
I think that khameleon will be his best kameo by far, shes sonya and serena in 1 with added benefits
Scorpion’s the best kameo imho. He can add damage to virtually every string. 😊
sorta Newish to MK (this is the first time i bought a new entry in the series when it came out) and i noticed i would get scrubed out in some matches because of block pressure and i dont know which buttons to press to escape, so the first part of your video is very helpful. And seeing you use Sonya and those Kombo extensions you get off her Kameo assists are giving me alot of inspiration as well.
Sometime ice klone after 21 works and sometimes it doesnt. 😭 Im definitely missing something here.

khameleon jade combos let Sub get 40% meterless which is something i thought i would never see

I like to run Sonya with my sub, grandmaster so far in KL.the b34 string does have a gap but the standing 34 doesn’t have a gap.The 34 string is so good with Sonya, you catch alot of people slipping with the high low mix, into Sonya kameo, full combo every time
Ill say it again for anyone watching. You can't use Clone or Divekick in neutral, both are punishable on reaction. Clone is 60 frames from Clone fully visible till SubZero can block!
Divekick is punishable on reaction with UpBlock and it's 40 frames (point blank IA) from start of divekick animation to when it hits.
if you use divekick you should be using it as an instant air, harder to react to and its safe on block any distance
To clarify your dive kick is safe depending on where it is you hit.
If you aim right below to hit their foot, then you're actually safe because it's -2.

i just hate that we gotta work so hard for 30%. but other characters do 40%+ in like 4 hits
Im a low tier Sub main and i get zone in like 80% of my matches. Reiko, Scorpion, Luikang, shang tsung, Quan chi, Peace maker.. Ect.
Its really annoying as most of my matches become a cat and mouse game. Never before, a Mk game was made for zoners as this one.. Its crasy.
Ice ball is so slow, slide is so easily punishable and his ice punch has no reach.
At a low level you get beat by players with less skills just because they're playing trickier characters. In fact the trickery in this game is sick. What i mean by that are moves that dont make sense like moves that look like they are going to hit high but they hit low or moves that look like they are hiting low but hit high.. And within strings. Also all these full screen hit box teleports.
Sub's moves and strings are super readable and easy to defand against.. The slowest overhead ever, so slow you can react to it.
At a high level, Sub might be decent but for lower level players, hes just very hard to use.
Oh and lets talk about his ice clone that dont come out when you are getting stagger.

When people say bottom 5, I really think that’s a stretch.
If you like his play style why care where other people place him. Right now I’m having a blast with Quan and guess where he’s placed on peoples tier list
I mean he is bottom 5 tho bottom 3 actually name another person that can be armored every string has a string that is full combo punishable so you either can finish that string or cancel into clone which both you can get armored through his only good stuff like dive kick is easily punishable just upblock I'll give his his mixups decent but every mixup he does ends in something punishable so not to good and you cant combo off his mixups like alot of other characters
@@Nonreachable Quan Chi has gaps in every string besides f2,1 which is his only mid, not hit confirmable, full combo punishable on block if you complete the string. At least Sub can actually throw his strings out and if they armor through it they used a bar. Quan Chi you can just duck the start up of his string and use your jab starter to punish him without using armor because the second button usually comes out in 10+frames

with sonya I discovered a 42% combo with just one bar and kameo

@@AuContraireMonFraire You call that a nerf? Sub’s damage went from over 40% on a B&B to below 30%. Cage still has ridiculous plus frames, safe mix and popups, and unlimited pressure. That’s like Sub’s b2 being +3 on block and everything else is safe.
