In this video Im tracking a herd of Red Deers in the moor lands on the west coast of Denmark by the North Sea. I prepare a heart meal of venison, bacon, onions, cabbage, dark beer, mature cheese and boiled eggs. I proceed to the marshes in search of wild birds. Today the hunter was out of luck and would have been probably better off if he had taken the time to make a bow - perhaps in a future video.
Viking age authenticity and its perspective into hikes like this is a relative matter. I strive to bring mainly items that I craftes with my own hands and that can relate directly or at least be very much inspired by archeological findings from the viking age. Compromises must be made. The only items you see in this video that is NOT made by me: Axe head, spearhead, small bag for fire steel, knife blade and handle, pot and pan, fire-steel (Kim Holm Dragesmeden), the clay cup/container and the bronze buttons on my kaftan.
My compromises that I don't think relate to viking archeology: the little pot with insert for wooden handle, the leather water container. I would be happy to discuss my choice and thoughts on these compromises with you in the comments below.
I am wearing and using homemade Haithabu viking turnshoes, needle bound socks, woolen Thorsberg (not viking age) pants, a simple linen tunic, a woolen tunic, a kaftan plantdyed and based on Haithabu finds, a beltbag, belt and bone/antler buckle and strap end, shoulder bag based on handle findings from Loch Glashan, leg wraps died with walnut, wooden plate and spoon, Oseberg Spoon, Spear tip from Bornholm, Leather hood based on fragments from Haithabu (original in wool) and other items. You will see in the video.
I try to make these trips and these videos as close to an authentic viking experiense for myself and the viewer and I hope you will like the content and feel inspired. Let me know in the comments below.

I bought it from my favourite Cooking gear blacksmith Sebastian Drost from Holland. It is based on a found from Vreta Monastery, Sweden. He is an amazing Craftsman and great Guy for a chat about personal wishes for a certain item. He made me a custom axe head years back after much talking back and forth about weight, posibility of using the back of the head as a tent peg hammer and so on. Amazing result.
