Great video! People underestimate what a HUGE difference a permanent high top makes. I‘ve been living in various campervans, and I would never go without high top ever again. It‘s seriously worlds between being able to stand any time (without any buildup/breakdown time) and not being able to do so. Cheers.
Watching your older videos is what convinced me to buy a Transit Connect instead of a full size Transit. I have a 2010 Transit Connect passenger version that was 1 owner with low miles. Im currently converting it for my wife and I to get on the road and have some adventures.
I consider full standing height to be essential, irrespective of how its achieved, hard top/sides or hard top/sides rising roof, no fabric roof! This hard top hugely improves the van and the camping experience, as a species, we stand upright, and in this very lovely compact travel cabin, the owner can. Because this is the build specified by the owner, its perfect! So to is the quality, fit, finish and attention to detail of the woodwork! Were I the owner, I would be absolutely delighted with the quality of the build and the care the constructor has taken. This is craftsmanship standard work! The simple, open and airy layout is really nice, and the design has great practicality and usability. I find it to be elegantly simple and simply elegant.
Just wanna say hello to the UA-cam algorythm... And tell you that once again, this is really nice craftmanship. Have a good snowskate season and hope to see you around Sherbrooke this winter 😉
Another superb job Josh truly. You've really got the edge on the market in my opinion. Really humble guy as well and working with whatever the customer comes with. I'm not sure that I like the customers design which I think they'll probably regret later but your work is impeccable 👍
Beautiful work as usual, Josh. I'm sure the customer will be delighted by your execution of their design. Thanks for all the links! P.S. That clip is a nice refinement.
Beautiful wood work. Love the open storage at the top. Huge counterspace & love the idea you can make it a bed at night. The way this is built it is completely up to the owner how they are going to use all that storage. Unbelieveable how much this unit has for such a small space.❤
Another magnificent build done by you BUT… as a C-10 I am you never install a 110/120 receptacle behind a water spout; to cover your liability use a GFIC receptacle and GRUND it to the chassis of the vehicle then TEST IT.. (try to follow the NEC book guide to cover any fire or electrocution liability on your side). Other than that.. NICE JOB Josh.😊
Hello Josh! I love your conversions!!! I think it’s amazing you are working with small vans which can be more complicated….. Also, your wood working is so clean n professionally looking….. I am going to purchase a Ford Transit Connect 2010….. and I want to do a roof raise as well.. I was wondering if you know where your client had their roof raise done and the cost of the raise??? Hope you are feeling better too!!😊 Thank you!!!😊
As a transit connect owner myself, I came here to make that exact comment. It is already terrible in a crosswind. Can't imagine how bad it would be with the extension.
Also tensit owner. In fact I own that same color transit. Cross wind is truly terrible and horribly underpowered engine. I plan to increase the horsepower a little
Very nice build! While I like the idea of being able to stand up, obviously I would not need it when I'm driving. And I would be very concerned with that little van and the wind buffeting it around with that top. That's why a pop top always made sense to me. It allows me to stand when I want to, but is down for driving saving on gas as is more stable in windy conditions. You said another company did the top. Do you know if they do pop tops as well?
👍🏼👍🏼Beautiful carpentry 🙌🏼 Question about the roof: where was it manufactured? I'm considering a Ford Transit Connect for myself, and ceiling height is a downer; however, this system presents a potential worth exploring further. I fitted an old 1987 British Leyland Daf ambulance in the 90’s to drive from the UK to Portugal. I resided in it for eight months so I could surf and skateboard my days away. I was thankful for the ceiling height! Thanks for sharing your awesome craft! 🤘🏼
Another great build Josh! My only thought is where will the futon mattress be stored? A question for you.. without a waste water container, if you left the water in the sink is there some way of discharging it as a trickle whilst driving?
Beautiful job inside. I was thinking that's going to really grab the wind, lightweight vehicle and tall height. Be careful of entering parking structures.
Love this build but my question has nothing to do with the build. What is the name of the song you are using in this video. It sounds so familiar. Thanks.
Nice work I always love your videos. What are the silver Philips screws with the nice big head that you always use? I like the look of those. I think I’m going to have to invest in some of your leather drawer pulls when I build my van next year!
Josh, can't see in the description how to reach you. Interested but I haven't purchased a van yet. The van showing in this video (WITH the 22" extension) is what I'll be looking for. May I get your website?
I like theidea of theextended roof top. Being only 5 foot 7.5 with sneakers on i wouldnt think id need too much height but Just enough to stand up straight without knocking my head. Did you install that cap Josh or did you take it to an auto body guy? Is he outside made out of fiberglass? I imagine if I took my van to somebody they could reduce the height of the cap according to me, I would say with all that space up at the top. I’m surprised it wasn’t turned into some type of sleeping loft. I know it’s to each individuals taste don’t get me wrong. It just seems like the bed platform takes up a dramatic amount of space so you really kind of only have that small narrow path to stand up and walk through again I probably would’ve gone a little bit old school and had the bed fold up like your other builds but then again, I’m not the one paying you to do that job. All in all you got skillz Josh.👍🏻
Hey Josh - any idea what MPG these transit connect camper builds are getting? I'd be curious about both the regular and the high roof, if you have any idea. Loving the van build videos, thanks for the great resource!
Hi, I have a 2012 Connect fully converted to a campervan. I did not extend the roof. The gas mileage that I get varies from 19-23 MPG. If I have lots of hills or am driving on flat land obviously affects the mileage. Often I average about 21 MPG. I used very light wood and do not have heavy drawers in an attempt to lighten the load. But things like food, water, my 12V fridge, etc. add to the weight. If you'd like to see my build here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/MSA07CLgsW4/v-deo.html
Hi Josh, I have a Toyota Sienna 2022 hybrid and want to convert to a living space; (all weather conditions) could you please kinda give me an estimate for how much it would be (low and high). Thank you!
what do you do for insurance on this i told my insurance company i was going to make it a micro camper and they almost didn’t want to insure it because it doesn’t classify as a van more like a RV
Leave it insured as the VIN number describes it which is a Ford Transit Connect Cargo van. Why would you need any different? It is a cargo van with built in storage which is same as a lot of other cargo vans on the roadways.
What a waste of space just for some skis! Would’ve been better to make roof rack storage for them instead and get rid of that ugly roof thing which looks like it’d be pretty unruly in high winds! Also - except for the driver’s seat, where would you sit?🙄 EdiT: I think you made the best you could out’ve what is essentially a pigs ear!

I'm 6'3" and I want this 😀 Josh we LOVE your work here in California!
Appreciate it! 🙏🏻
I love the build and Josh’s craftsmanship. But, at 6’3”, how would you fit on the 68” bed? I am curious about what you have in mind for a bed?

It’s definitely a treat to be able to stand up in one of these little vans!
Wo schläft man???
Outstanding craftmanship!
Thanks Dad!
I agree, it really is superb!

God Bless you. You are an artist.

Nice work, Josh. The roof extension is a bit much for my taste, but I can see a ski enthusiast liking this build. Thank you for sharing!
Appreciate it! Yeah I agree, it’s definitely a unique look!
Saludos. Desde la isla de puerto rico. Buen trabajo 👍
Nice build, Josh. Your craftsmanship and cabinet building is always top notch. Well done.
Thanks Marcy!
We need help with my van to make a camper out of it
Beautiful work as usual, Josh. I'm sure the customer will be delighted by your execution of their design.

Hello from France. Great job ! 😊
🙏🏻
Hey Josh, I always am wowed by your builds, but hope you still make time for your own adventures!
wow….this a genius conversion…..kudos to you!
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

After seeing what Josh can do to all these minivans, I'd love to see what he would do to a full sized van.
You and me both 🙏🏻
Exactly what I was thinking. He is great.
It's very clean, I'm impressed. Good job. I would be confident to give you my van to work on after watching only two videos. Good job 🎉

love my van . Thank you.
Beautiful build inside, but that height extension makes it stick out like a sore thumb. It's definitely not an option if stealth is your goal.
Another home run, Josh! Nice work!
Thanks Jimmy!
Ive driven my 2013 Transit Connect for 3 years now used for work. No fun in a crosswind. That extra height will make it even worse I think.
As a transit connect owner myself, I came here to make that exact comment. It is already terrible in a crosswind. Can't imagine how bad it would be with the extension.
Interestingly, I don't particularly find wind to be an issue in the 2015 wagon. The slightly lower height must make a big difference.
How many miles on your transmission?
Too each their own
Also tensit owner. In fact I own that same color transit. Cross wind is truly terrible and horribly underpowered engine. I plan to increase the horsepower a little
I’m super impressed! You do beautiful work! I hope to use your work at some point😊
definitely not for my taste but a unique one
hope the owner enjoys it
Appreciate it!
So cool for a compact vehicle👍🏼
🙏🏻
Very creative use of space! Love your work....hope you feel better ❤ PEACE
Looks like an upside down ice cream tub landing from outer space on your van 😂
Nice details - I enjoy checking out your builds
Another great job Josh!! Wish I had that top on my Connect.
Very cool.
Thanks!
very smooth interior! Great building.
Love your work! I live in Miami, Fl. Can you help me with my conversion? I will email you tomorrow 😊😊
nice and clean
Thank you!

You said hopefully you didn't miss anything ? Well there is seating missing and you have to sleep on the kitchen sideboard basicly :)
👍🏼👍🏼Beautiful carpentry 🙌🏼
Question about the roof: where was it manufactured?

Hope you're fully recovered now
Thank you for inspiring me. Great job! Where could I find out more about this roof extension or similar alternatives?
Nice built!
My question;: Is it possible to build a fix single bed and a full shower in that small space?
Thoughtful and cool build! Where did the owner get the roof top heightened?
Feel better soon!!
Thanks! I believe the company was fiberine out in CA.
@@Josh_Oakes :: Thank you so kindly.
Beautiful but I think the customer needs to have the roof painted the same colour as the van.
Thanks! That would be a good move!
you could fit sasquatch in there!
You sure could!
Nice
Love it!
i like this one where the bed doesnt take up the whole thing
Not bad use of space for a tiny van.
Another great build Josh! My only thought is where will the futon mattress be stored? A question for you.. without a waste water container, if you left the water in the sink is there some way of discharging it as a trickle whilst driving?
Great craftsmanship! Where and who makes the hightop in this video?
Nice if one is going solo.
Beautiful job inside.
I was thinking that's going to really grab the wind, lightweight vehicle and tall height. Be careful of entering parking structures.
Estoy buscando una camper asi pero en puerto rico no las hay.
nice job!
Thanks!
Curious...where is the futon mattress stored when not being used?
Gorgeous work. Especially up top.
I’m curious why the openings above the cab aren’t centered. (Or one isn’t… they don’t line up with each other. :) j
Connects and nissan nv needs roof toppers to stand to put on your pants better!
Love this build but my question has nothing to do with the build. What is the name of the song you are using in this video. It sounds so familiar. Thanks.
Nowhere to sit at the table ? Could you make front seat swivel or Captains chair?
Nice work I always love your videos. What are the silver Philips screws with the nice big head that you always use? I like the look of those. I think I’m going to have to invest in some of your leather drawer pulls when I build my van next year!

They’re called lath screws I believe.
Josh, can't see in the description how to reach you. Interested but I haven't purchased a van yet. The van showing in this video (WITH the 22" extension) is what I'll be looking for. May I get your website?
What's the mpg now?
Maybe 1-2 mpg less at absolute most. Anyone else?

I have one question: Do you extend out the truck cab, too, about halfway into the truck bed, 6.5 length truck bed
I like theidea of theextended roof top. Being only 5 foot 7.5 with sneakers on i wouldnt think id need too much height but Just enough to stand up straight without knocking my head. I did not install the topper. I believe the company is fiberine out in CA.
would you happen to know what company they used to add the roof extension? I have a ford transit connect and i'm interested in adding one :) thanks!
This is the same one that Petito and Landrie had?
Get better son young man! And, now you have the antibody!
Nice work but no fridge and no toilet? Big misses by the client
Where do you sleep? The floor or kitchen counter?
Like I mention in the video, the top of the cabinets is where the client will place their roll up mattress!
The counter is designed for sleeping on a futon mat.
Hi . What did you use so the airbag and seatbelt light are not on when you removed the passenger seat
How did you do the roof raise and how much did that cost?
What’s in the compartment next to the sink?
Hey Josh - any idea what MPG these transit connect camper builds are getting? I'd be curious about both the regular and the high roof, if you have any idea. Loving the van build videos, thanks for the great resource!

this one is different I suppose its what the owner wanted.
BE WELL in Jesus name 👍❤️🙏
Question: Do you have a link for the LED DIMMER SWITCH? Thanks.
Hey do you know where they took it to get that hightop done?
So how does one build that type of roof extension? Is it possible to use fiberglass instead of wood to reduce weight?
I would paint it
where can i get this extension for roof please let me know
Is there a bathroom?
do you have a price list
where is the bed??
What has been put between the fibroglass hitop and plywood?
Where you get the roof top from?
Where do they store the bed?
i reckon they have a tent with them
He said it is a rolled up futon pad. So it rolls up and sits on top. It doesn't have to be out of sight just out of the way.
👏🏼👏🏼👍

The roof ruins the proportions of the van.
I think that's too small
