When is 'Big' Just Too Big?

- A large, unsettling question looming among Washington regulators, lawmakers, and now state Attorney’s General across the US is whether the time has come to break up the big five: Facebook, Amazon, Google, Netflix, Apple. Have these powerful tech companies, once the darlings of the start-up community not twenty years past, become so dominant that they are stifling competition and entrepreneurship? Does their respective dominance in search, retail, apps, operating systems, cloud technology and more pose anti-competitive threats? And, if so, is the current state of antitrust law able to tackle them? While still a student at Yale Law School, Lina Khan gained wide celebrity for her analyses of anti-competitive behavior. Studying the digital marketplace, she is making waves by arguing that in this time of big data, artificial intelligence, and winner-take-all markets, tech companies have immense structural power that the current approach to antitrust law fails to capture.
This interviewer needs to let her finish speaking. She's the one for whom we're here, not you.
The interviewer is an empty vessel. As for Khan, America needs to protect this young lady at all cost!
"concentrations of political power threatened democracy.., populist roots that informed this legislation.." she's a brilliant speaker a natural so reassuringly empirically prodigious
I appreciated the things Lina had to say. Really disappointed that the interviewer failed to engage more with Khan's responses to his, at times, patronizing questions.
To the guy who loves his coffee delivered in a day to anywhere, try selling coffee on amazon, then you would understand the issue and this debate better.
She is 31 yrs old?
Whaf have I done.... i am 44
I am rubbish
No man, you made impact be sure of that. You are more than you know and hey, we ourself are our own biggest critics.. I know I am man...
Live life, have fun, laugh alot, spread smiles around you.. you are perfect as you are dude.. =)
It is never a good idea to try to compete with a brilliant interviewee.
It is never a good idea to try to compete with Bezos. And Khan will lose.
Would Disney be a good case to pursue anti trust cases? It monopolizes media content - CRADLE TO GRAVE literally. From the time u were born , u watch Disney, u watch news - subsidiary of Disney, u watch sports - all subsidiary of Disney. Only difference is Disney crosses borders and watched globally like Google, amazon still restricted to economic zones when dealing with buyers/sellers.
What a genius nerd
Lol
A very attractive genius nerd
@@redskins973 Indeed and a south Asian background (Indian subcontinent).
She is so brilliant, US needs more people like her... Congratulations Ms. Khan !

Protect her at all cost America! This young lady is a blessing.
Khan
That’s like saying just because it’s Bank of America I don’t feel like going to another bank it’s inconvenient even tho Bank of America is all around the world placed in convenient and inconvenient locations? Amazon needs to be divided and a lot of federal fund jobs too
Diamond and Silk making the enforcement regulations. S T O P 😂😋😂😂😜
"you dont want to separate google map from all the other ways google is accumulating data" 17:00+ she's a genius the other day at my gallery I posted a long analysis for over the new year about google tanking in the markets for surveillance based engines wow I can quote her here--- lets do it :)*
Congratulations !
Govt got to make sure a level playing ground.
She argues and speaks well, clearly a smart cookie.
i like when big companys buy other big companys
Congratulations on been appointed to lead FTC
Congratulations on nomination
Lina is brilliant.
Is it just me or does her voice start to sound like AOC at a certain point?
I love AOC and all, but she has that nasally NY accent at times. Khan doesn’t. Khan’s is a bit more neutral, she’s just young.
Keep in mind in this interview, I don’t even think she was 30 yet.
When its around the size of Linas nose
I wonder what she would be doing now if her parents had remained in Pakistan.
She should be paid by big tech companies from China. Ensuring US tech will not be able to compete!!! Awesome!! Buying Yuan in the morning!!!
So much irony in US philosophy. From one angle Americans say they love democracy because it ensures there are no dictators (my argument for this being false is for another day); but then economically, Americans have no issue with "dictators" in economic markets owning monopolies. Amazon is a dictator in its own industry. This is one of Lina's main outlooks on the situation.
@@yas0o0o you are confusing terminology. Can Amazon put you in jail or charge you income tax? How about conscript you into their military. Businesses and governments are totally different.
@@xyzzy4567 you misunderstood my point. I'm saying Amazon is the equivalent of a dictator in its own industry. The attribute here being compared to a "dictator" is that dictators have all the money and power in that state just like Amazon does in its own industry. Amazon has so much money and power that it can afford to lose money on a certain product just to drive out its competitors so that it gain monopoly in that market. Hope that's making sense?
@@yas0o0o This is incorrect for (at least) one key reason: if a dictator does their job badly, guess what? They continue doing their job. That's the definition of a dictator. Whereas if Amazon starting providing terrible services, they'd hemorrhage money and either have to correct course or become irrelevant. People use Amazon because it's good, not because it's awful and Amazon forces them too.
