Journal work is such a huge pleasure, I'm new at this and luv the freedom to do whatever I feel at the time be it watercolour, cut and paste, and seeking new materials, its just so relaxing. I'm going to try and make one for all my 10 younger grandchildren.
You, young lady are a gift to the planet and to those of us who have wondered what to do with our everythings saved. I just found you so with everyone welcoming you back I'm inspired to find there is more of you to watch. You are so lovely to listen to, and your hands are wonderful to watch. Be blessed in your creativity.
I so enjoy hearing you talk, I feel like you are here at my desk talking to me, while I am making my little journal. Funny. Love this little "green" book. My mother just past away in Aug. 2021. I have so many picture, you gave me an idea on how to put them in a little journal. Thanks.
Wow. You are so productive! And all those classes you do. You are so inspiring. And your creative products are so beautiful 😻. Really miss your videos I've been rewatching your videos several times. Hope you are well and OK. Wish you all the best! Kind Regards from Annette Bo in Denmark
I LOVE these books!!! The first one is my favorite! I am now trying to get together some fabric scraps to make my own. I just don't have fabric. I don't do any hobbies using fabric. I'm planning a quick run out to Canton for First Monday this April 2nd. There is a booth in the Civic Center building that hauls all things fabric from estate sales. Bin and bins of lace, tea towels, dresser scarfs, and QUILTS. The only thing with the quilts is I want scraps not the whole thing, and I have a hard time cutting them up. They are great prices but I feel like I'm cutting up someone's hard work. Anyway thank you for yet another video. I'm collecting goodies now to take the class.
Your video appeared at the most God sent moment. I am a huge introvert and I have had with this house arrest. We are doing distance learning and all day I was wondering what to have my students do this week. This is absolutely the most perfect video to get them started on making something creative. Thank you, thank you, thank you Melanie. I am on the brink of losing my mind. I think we all need a support group at this point. Please make more videos.
This is only the 2nd video of yours that I'm watching, but it's going to be a "binge day." I hope all is going well with you and your family and that y'all are safe. Also, I had to giggle to myself every time you mentioned Roben-Marie. Because from first sight of your art, I thought, "She reminds me of Roben-Marie." You both are so beautifully talented and I'm trying to tap into my inner artist. :) I'm decently crafty, but I struggle with making things that I feel are artistic. But I'm getting there! Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
I have a TON of brown packing paper and some green as well. I'm still waiting to hear back from you about sending you a journal I made you but I can include some of the packing paper. Where I work I come across it all the time when things get shipped to us. Love seeing another video so so much esp. During trying times it's good to see your ok. Much love. Christy.
Wow you have a STYLE that's all your own. I did catch a few ideas though. I like the vibrant colors in your work. I'm going to drag out some paint and make COLOR!!! it's been awhile. I have 3 Journals I'm slowly gathering papers for, this idea with paint will be an added touch. I'm glad to have watched you create tonight. Thanks!
I loved every minute of your video, I was literally glued to the screen, pun intended, Thank you for such fantastic inspiration. I’m off to paint, cut and glue. Keep well.
Hi Melanie, I hadn't received any notifications of your recent videos, so I came looking for you : ) These little journals are such a great and happy inspiration! I'm checking out your links you included for classes, I noticed a free one, so hoping to see what it's about soon. I'm so behind on watching my "Watch later" list anyway, take care : ) Love your pics from your childhood, the tall sunflower is so special, great memories!
I love all the lives books you made and it’s so sweet that you even put photos in one. I agree with you that these are bizarre times...I’m praying that it get better soon! Hang in there and stay safe.
Dearest Melanie, I had a blast just watching you flick through your scraps of painted, marked and gelli printed papers which reminded me of a video you did when you were painting papers with a credit card and acrylics - one of the first videos I watched of yours and thoroughly enjoyed BTW. I’d love to have another paper painting session with you if that’s something you’d like to share in the future xx
❤️❤️I LOVED THIS! ❤️❤️Seriously, I think I have to give it a try to this paper piece technique. I love Robin Marie Smith style too but for some reason it intimidates me, my junk journaling style is completely different. I missed your videos, so happy you are back. Thank you for showing us all your art work, you've been a busy girl!! Take care, xxx
Oh Why did i throw those scraps away! hahaha! ... Just started a mini glue book and you have given me some great ideas. Am finding my own style of glue book work. Its fun.....your journals are Lovely!!!
So good to see and hear you again. I really like your approach. You are stunningly organised AND sooo creative. This question „do I like it“ ? you are asking yourself throughout the Prozess in the end, sparks something for me. Because it is essentially all that matters.. right? And I had to laught about your „its official... I make way more afford now than without the camera..“ 😊🙃 So thank you! This was already a highlight of my day. And it’s only early midday ... ( here in germany ) !!
I like your “trash” collaging. When you look at it, it’s almost like Rorschach test cause the shapes remind me of things. One of the ones you glued reminded me of a llama.
I was just watching your composition book video! I've missed you! I stopped making journals, too, but I started making masks. Now I've completed one journal and I'm starting another one.
I loved your little Grandma's yard journal so texturally tactile and interesting . It's unique to you and tells a special story, so much handwork that would be a treasured heirloom to pass through generations! Make sure you write some little notes of explanation to go with it for the future! (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤
I was so happy to see this on my feed! I’ve missed you. It IS an odd time, but hopefully we all help each other through. I’m going to take one of the Kelli Mae Krantz classes, of the Slow Stitched Journals and the Journaling Layers, which do you suggest first?
Hi Sallee, if you are interested in getting lots of unconventional stitching inspiration, the Slow Stitched Journals class is the way to go. Kelli's techniques are unlike anything I've ever seen, but it was refreshing to see something different and the journals she creates are really amazing. The Journaling Layers class has a more broad range of techniques, like stamp carving, eco-dying, tea staining, stenciling, etc. If you are interested in working some stitching into your journals, I would recommend the Slow Stitched Journals first. It's really different than what's out there.
Without going through the video, I think the only thing I did with the iris was flower pounding. I placed the petals between two layers of some heavy paper (cardstock would work; I used printmaking paper I had on hand) and then gently pounded on it with a rawhide mallet (a rubber mallet would work too). The petals turned to mush inside the paper, so I cleaned off any large pieces that were left and then just let it dry. The color I got when it was dry is that beautiful blue/ purple. I did it outside on my front walkway which is made of large smooth stone, so I'd try it on a hard surface, but I wouldn't use anything textured under the paper, like the concrete sidewalk because the bumpy texture of the concrete would come through on the paper. I hope that help! Pound away!
Hi Jennifer. I'm currently using an EPSON Perfection V600 Photo scanner. I just use the Epson software that comes with the printer for scanning. I always scan at 300 dpi if it's something I'm going to print. For printing, I have an Epson Artisan 1430 wide-format photo printer and my favorite paper to print on is matte presentation paper. I think it's the combination of the printer and paper that makes my printed materials look so nice. Unfortunately, both the scanner and printer I have are discontinued, but I've been very pleased with my Epson products for scanning and printing.
Oh honey I know just what you mean My husband and I were married for 40+ years passed away 2018 all alon then the 🦠hit so I was forced to be alone so now I’m trying to get back into sewing again but can’t all I can do is watched all the videos. . But love your art God bless you and yours
Hello, great video. But, can you please up the audio of your mic? For those of us with hearing problems it is very difficult to hear you without turning my speaker volume up to 100%. Can you make your voice a little louder? Thank you
Another great video! Thank you for sharing your work with us!! I was wondering if it would be ok to DM you on Insta? I would really love to know what you thought about the different classes. Thanks!

Your journals are sooo gorgeous. You are an absolute colour in a colourless world. xxx. Miss you much. xxx
Wonderful creations. My head is buzzing with ideas. Itching to get out my scraps. You have a very unique style. Every page is a gem.😁

Love your journal, especially the first one! Love the stiching.
Thankyou for inspiring me, you don't need fancy journals to make beautiful art right.
Wow. You are so productive! And all those classes you do. You are so inspiring. And your creative products are so beautiful 😻.

I ❤ seeing you look through all this because it's all very very inspiring, painted scraps and all! Scrap love forever, right!?
Yes, yes, yes to scraps! Here's to those of us who buy new paper and fabric only to tear it up into scraps! 🍾
How did you put the mini journal together? Signatures & binding & ribbon? Can you please make a video showing the basic process 💜
Love all of the texture, stamping, stenciling, variety of papers, and trims! Yummy! TFS the inspiration!

HOW DO YOU PRESERVE THE PRESSED IRIS SO IT DOESN'T LOSE ITS COLOR? I HAVE ONE THAT WILL PROB DIE THIS WEEKEND!! IT'S OCT 28.
Without going through the video, I think the only thing I did with the iris was flower pounding. I placed the petals between two layers of some heavy paper (cardstock would work; I used printmaking paper I had on hand) and then gently pounded on it with a rawhide mallet (a rubber mallet would work too). Ty so much for taking your time to answer me. It will remind me tomorrow to go out there and pick the flower and give it a try!
Hope everything is well with you. I miss your videos.
Welcome back!
Lol 😂 when you said flower pounding I looked up flour pounding😂
What type of scanner do you use? Do you use a certain software to make your art come out not looking printed? Your videos are soo inspiring! Thanks
Hi Jennifer. I'm currently using an EPSON Perfection V600 Photo scanner. I just use the Epson software that comes with the printer for scanning. I always scan at 300 dpi if it's something I'm going to print.

Oh honey I know just what you mean
My husband and I were married for 40+ years passed away 2018 all alon then the 🦠hit so I was forced to be alone so now I’m trying to get back into sewing again but can’t all I can do is watched all the videos. .
