  • Welcome to a new series on Antennas and Arrays. In the first video I provide a step-by-step guide on designing and simulating a U-slot patch antenna in ANSYS HFSS. A U-slot patch antenna is popular due to it's wideband performance, compact size and linear polarization over the entire bandwidth. I don't cover the theory behind U-slot patch antennas which you can read about in this reference:

    I didn't know that you can re-arrange the order of variables to whatever you want. That's a nice tip! If you plan to use this antenna in an array, I would recommend assigning an integration line when assigning the wave port. HFSS will assign the integration line from the inner to outer conductor or outer to inner conductor seemingly randomly, which can result in array elements 180 degrees out of phase with each other. Also, if the inner conductor intersecting with the substrate or teflon gives an error, you can enable material override from design settings.
