I don't like how roku will update itself and decide to remove a Channel or take away an option or in my case recently a screensaver that is a fish tank for your TV. It was perfect and I was using it for years. I'm really mad about this.
New owners will mess it up. These mega corporations buy these successful companies based on how much money they can make in a short period of time for investors. Rarely do they ever improve the product...or in many cases their sole purpose is to make as much money as they can quick then tank it. It's happening everywhere these days.
Zen TV seems to be the steaming version of the aquarium channel that local cable companies put up when they had more channel slots than they had channels to fill them.
A suggestion, have one of your staff go over with you on anything on your script that you are having trouble pronouncing. That way we can hear less mispronunciations. Glad you are still going and I do love this daily updates on current Media news!
@ all of a sudden my Roku stick stopped working with Tablo and I’ve been told that they did some sort of update that effects it. My other Roku different models work though. I ended up having to hook up my old Tablo legacy if worked fine
I could see one of the larger home electronics manufacturers buying Roku, maybe Samsung or LG or Sony or a Chinese brand???, especially one that doesn't have a good wireless streaming software product. Maybe integrate the Roku software/OS into other products that have an LCD screen and put apps on that screen. Its possible it could be bought by a major media company, but I can't see why they would want it unless it was at a severe discount (most already have some level of streaming software for their apps).
If ROKU is sold? I can give you 2 high end corporate conglomerates whom will put in a bid on it. AT&T and T-Mobile... I live in Texas and those two are huge here...
In the early 1990s, I worked for a small chain of pizza delivery restaurants in upstate NY. We used to serve Pepsi products, but as soon as Pizza Hut (then owned by Pepsi) announced it was beginning home delivery, the owner was on the phone with a Coca-Cola rep arranging to switch soda suppliers. He told me that if we continued to sell Pepsi, we would be subsidizing our competition. Enough other restaurants felt the same way that Pepsi sold Pizza Hut. I could see a similar issue arising for any TV manufacturer that bought Roku. That's because one part of Roku's business is licensing its OS to be used on smart TVs. However, if, for example, Vizio were to buy Roku, other TV makers might decide they didn't want to sign deals with a direct competitor. Then again, I'm not sure what percentage of its business involves licensing its OS. For instance, Hisense and TCL used to sell TVs that used Roku's OS, but their newer TVs use Google TV. Of course, the Pepsi/Pizza Hut backfire is now taught in business school, so any manufacturer thinking about a Roku acquisition would consider that issue. Right? Somehow, I don't feel all that much confidence in that statement.
@@benstandard According to Google's AI, Pepsi bought Pizza Hut in 1977 but spun it off in 1997 along with Taco Bell and KFC into a new company called Tricon Global Restaurants. In 2002, Tricon Global Restaurants changed its name to Yum! Brands. Yum! Brands is now a separate company that operates Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC, and The Habit Burger Grill. I don't know if Pepsi owns any of Yum! Brands stock, but the two companies seem to be on relatively good terms since Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut serve Pepsi products in their restaurants.
I see Sony buying Roku. They have the media licenses and the profit revenue of PlayStation to make the merge possible, and they would combine their Android TV OS with Roku's ease of use. Would be cool to see if it happened.
Stream PS5 to any $35 Roku TV stick in the home would also be a key feature I envision, advertised much more heavily as the PS Portal is still doing ok
I'm almost certain they do not make their own TVs (95% sure). Most likely generic TV manufacturer, Roku specifies a few unique parts and/or performance standards, then it supplies the TV manufacturer with its OS software to load into the TVs before they are shipped.
Those "zen" moments on UA-cam tv are WAY to loud. I watch with my home theater system, and it decodes these Zen moments differently, making them God awfully loud. I don't like them
My sister has T-Mobile internet... And I did a speed test on it when I was at her house for Thanksgiving and she was getting faster speeds than I was on cable... I was very impressed with it
New owners will likely ruin it. It probably won’t be a neutral platform under new ownership. I could see one of its competitors, google, apple or amazon, buying it.
I am sure it's pronounced that way in the UK,where it originated. I love how people struggle with Worcestershire . Wustasheer not literally like it is spelled.
If Roku's content is available from the PC as it is now for a large part,I will be ok with it but if they screw it up,they will lose a lot of subscribers. If it becomes more restrictive,I will not be happy. I do not feel like another 3 or 4 hundred dollar investment in boxes.
It makes sense that Samsung would buy Roku. That makes the Apple vs. Samsung/Android back in play. I have both Apple TV and like t, but I do like Roku better. My Samsung washer is junk.
Roku has no idea about how they can MASSIVELY increase Roku sales. I am so shocked. For example they have not tapped into all the Churches in America and even the world who want a streaming channel. Yes MANY Churches themselves have come to roku channel developers and created a channel...but its much bigger than Roku knows...just as an example. They also need to create a HIGHER quality METAL Roku and only have 2 Roku devies n existence ALWAYS. One would be the main Like the Roku ULTRA (but will come in 2 different packages and prices with one missing features that can be ADDED later by purchasing an add-on making it a FULL Roku Ultra) and the second a Roku Streaming Stick with USB-C and MicroSD card slot with the FULL Voice and Headphone jack remote and also made of metal. Both with a minumum of 64gb Storage of Apps and Games besides having a Separate Memory bank for the channels. It has to compete an minumum with the Apple TV specs because of the future battles narrowing with streaming devices. Also the ability to sink up to 8 Roku Remotes to ONE Roku unit for Games and Karaoke. There is sooo much they can do
I like your content but I have to say that you are very hard to understand at times. I think sometimes you're speaking too fast and you don't articulate a lot of words clearly. Try slowing it down and listening to yourself on some of these videos.
A MUCH cleaner and easier to navigate user interface. I used to use FireTV but Amazon F’d that all up. I’m guessing whoever buys Roku will do the same to them. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. But they will.

If Roku is doing so well why would they want to sell?
Whomever buys it, I hope they don't screw up Roku.
Ima invest in roku right now.
@buffydog21 That's exactly what must not happen having used Roku the past couple years myself.
I wouldn't hold out much hope for that based on the speculated list of buyers.
Hope, but be prepared to watch it happen.
Oh they will.
I don’t want Roku to be sold. I really like Roku This day where it is
I hope that whomever buys Roku they don't change it, I love my Roku Tv's.
I’m sure Elon will screw with it.
This is terrible news. Whenever consumers have a good thing, big companies come in and mess it up.
I have no desire to ever go to a Whole Foods again now that it's owned by a prominent company.
Yep.. Roku is the best.. But Someone once said why we can't have good things..
I find that to be true..
I don't like how roku will update itself and decide to remove a Channel or take away an option or in my case recently a screensaver that is a fish tank for your TV. It was perfect and I was using it for years. I'm really mad about this.

My bet is a pay cable streaming service company will buy it, in order to eliminate the free and open competition. Look at what happened to Tablo.
Pretty much every speculated buyer (Amazon, Microsoft, Target, Netflix) is likely to degrade Roku.
I am my 4th Roku player since I started using them I just order a new Roku UL for my Mrs. for Christmas & might pair it with new 4k UHD 55 TV
Nice!!
Bad news for Roku users if it acquired.
Roku is already screwing over its users. Check out Louis Rossman's video about Roku.
I agree. Please don’t sell it.
Trust me, they WILL f it up if it is sold,
Zen TV seems to be the steaming version of the aquarium channel that local cable companies put up when they had more channel slots than they had channels to fill them.
Yup, hope the eventual new owner keep streaming to legacy Roku tv boxes.
What if you have two tvs that have roku built in our tvs both tvs have a roku remotes.
There goes the quality..
Question what about fandoago at home ?????
I actually hope they don't sell. I don't want Roku to change 😢
This could be good or bad news.
When UA-cam was sold the first time, we hated it. They were no longer taking on new partners. But look at it today.
A suggestion, have one of your staff go over with you on anything on your script that you are having trouble pronouncing. That way we can hear less mispronunciations. Glad you are still going and I do love this daily updates on current Media news!
Yeah, its glad to hear Luke using his real voice (with its mistakes) rather than using a voice translator/synthesizer or an A.I. system.
Maybe Rokus new owner can fix the issue with Tablo.
What issue?
@ all of a sudden my Roku stick stopped working with Tablo and I’ve been told that they did some sort of update that effects it. My other Roku different models work though. I ended up having to hook up my old Tablo legacy if worked fine
Locally we pronounce it NEED-am. The H is silent. We have people in our area with that last name.
I hope it won't screw up my line up with my TV. I will have to call them to see more what's really going on. Because I want to know what to do.

I hope it's not some no-name, inferior quality Chinese brand controlled by the CCP...
Microsoft # 1 candidate. Could dominate smart home with TV and PC OS integration
If ROKU is sold? I can give you 2 high end corporate conglomerates whom will put in a bid on it. AT&T and T-Mobile... I live in Texas and those two are huge here...
In Alabama it's Verizon and T-Mobile..
Big companies only buy smaller companies to make more money. If Roku is sold look for more ads or some kind of subscription tier.
Leave my ROKU TV ALONE@!@@!!!!!!!!
Uhhh. That's stupid. I bought it because it is a proprietary android box. Selling it to someone else completely negates the reason for my purchase.
That would suck, no doubt..
Omg, he said “Corpus Crispy”

U don't need to watch the video. Businesses to make money. Being bought at a price you can't pass up is a goal.
That won't be too hard they already screwed up they don't even have the internet on there
if they are making so much money why would they be selling.
UA-cam TV is too expensive
Luke, 50 CENT ACTION Channel is 285.
If Walmart buys another TV Streaming Service they will screw it up...wee their ads

Needham is pronounced NEED UM
I think Microsoft will buy Roku.
Roku makes its own TV's now so are they not their own manufacture?

Who cares who buys Roku it won’t affect most streamers that buy multiple devices
Needham is pronounced "Needim".. I live next door to the town.......... 🤣

If that person is from Needham in MA, it's said as, "Nedem".

why would roku want to sell? this sounds like a very bad idearhey are the best they will verry likely go downhill if it happens

Could we be going back to dumb TV's?
Google or Amazon would be my guesses for companies to acquire Roku.
If you get a dumb TV, one doesn't havecto worry about updating its OS.
Or a smart tv that you never connect to the internet. Dumb tvs are hard to find now.
Out there with it ?
buyout of Roku? In the long run, this is a bad idea.
I could see Apple buying it. You get the device free but have to sign up for the Apple TV service for two years, much like they do with cell phones.

A lot of sales pitches to buy subscriptions thru the Roku stick
