Hello from the Al Jazeera Fault Lines team - let's keep the comments here pertinent to the episode and please no off-topic or offensive comments or personal attacks.
If I was off Earth for the last thirty years, when I got back, this would be the best clip to watch, to catch up with what's really going on in the USA.
Ron Paul is a christian but is not singing to the same hymn sheet. He understands that you can not force morals on others with laws. "It is not true that the function of law is to regulate our conciousness, our ideas, our wills, our education, our opinions, our work, our trade, our talents or our pleasures. The function of law is to protect our free excersise of these rights." ~ Frederic Bastait Ron Paul is the only candidate that has not been bought by corporate forces. Ron Paul 2012!
I find the republican party heart breaking these days, the way they have embraced such hate from the extreme right. I don't understand why they have changed so much from what I grew up with. I don't want to be in an ideological war with anyone one, but they leave no choice - either fight the extreme right or ignore them and let them take over. But I find it all so depressing to stay on topic for long and their tenacity is exhausting.
Religion OBVIOUSLY informs politics. It's a way of life, a belief system, that builds a person's character and morals. There is no way religion will not be a part of politics, because it defines a lot of a person's views. A lack of religion also informs this, I believe. There's no way you can truly separate, only separate the state endorsing a specific one. Then again, when there's a clear majority religion, you can't really do that either...
I meant race or religion. I know it affects how some politicians act I just think we shouldn't vote based on either. News always makes a big deal about women, Christians or, black people voting one way or another.
This documentary absolutely terrified the hell out of me. Seriously. I'm going to the Al Jazeera website to buy a copy of this on DVD. I'd love to show my friends and family just how corrupt our country has become.
@JAFrk If you look at the trend of elections...Republicans fair better when the voter turnout is low. This is why so many red states have recently passed restrictive voting laws.
@runtoth3abyss Here is another thing. During Obama's time in Indonesia, he attended a hardcore Islamic school which foreign national was banned from. Who paid for Obama'c college tuition? Why did he have a Social Security number in Conneticut? Why don't he release his college transcript? What about the articles he wrote in Harvard Law Review?
It’s fascinating to me that these evangelicals choose to abandon the parts of the Bible that I found to be good, like helping the poor and turning the other cheek (antiwar as I see it). Instead they focus on a few things like being anti abortion (which isn’t really in the Bible) and being anti gay. And then they act the exact opposite way when it comes to the poor than Jesus would. How do they justify this in their hearts?
@sil2k8 I am not talking about the way in which they are presenting this story. I am talking about they are censoring comments when they are supposed to be neutral.
Dear AlJazeera, why not to a documentary on the following topics: how Obama received funding from Gaza in 2008, how his father was not a US citizen (hence Obama is unqualified to be president), what passport Obama used to go to Pakistan in the 80s, how he has undermined the US military, or HOW HE HAS DESTROYED THE US ECONOMY? How is that for a news story?
fxnooodle, President Barack Obama had 85 months of continuous growth, not one scandal while in office and one of the most popular/well-liked American Presidents since John F. Kennedy
@kingbeatsoz Nonsense. What you call Freemasonry came into existence in the 18th century. The Mayflower pp people who came to America in the 17th century were Puritans, i.e. Christian fundamentalists. They were not much better than Muslims, but they are only a minority today. What Mr. Gordon said is certainly right.
@runtoth3abyss Here is Section 1 of the 14th amendment honey: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the JURISDICTION THEREOF". "Jurisdiction thereof" means your mother and father are US citizen at the time of your birth. Obama was born in Hawai but his father was not a US citizen. Therefore, Obama is a NATIVE born citizen but not a NATURAL born. Here is the proof: "what passport did Obama use to go to Pakistan in 1981?" It can't be the US!
Only 6-and-a-half minutes in, and I have *FACEPALM'd* far too many times... XD The Founding Fathers were NOT CHRISTIAN. They would most likely have considered themselves Deist. Also: SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. (DO YOU SPEAK IT?) D:

I'm impressed by ALjazeera!
Tea Party - A bunch of retirees on Medicare whining about "socialized medicine".
Thanks AJE for another compelling video!
God woke me up at 3:15 and said, "I can't sleep, you want to burn one?" Hallelujah, God has killer weed.
😆

19:55 Sums up the WHOLE thing. "It's a fact based world versus bronze age mythology."
Fantastic short documentary.
Excellent example of journalism.
And then Trump happened… Al Jezeera didn’t see that coming.

Thank you for this video...
I'd like to keep the nation on a Constitutional, not biblical, basis, thank you very much.

No mention of Dr. Paul?
"The fear of the lord is the beginning of knowledge." -the Bible. WOW I didn't think it explicitly said it. WOW
77% in 2011, What’s the status of Iowa in 2019?

22:48, nailed it.

Channeled, diverted, run through the machine, perverted, polluted

Why don't they talk about Ron Paul? We started the tea party.

If only America stayed in the empire.
@Loltochapel Because Al Jazeera is not a bias media network.
VOTE GINGRICH!
FREE PALESTINE!
Ron Paul may have some crazy and naive ideas, but he and Huntsman are the only Republicans who aren't complete assholes or hypocrites.
Yes, seriously, I don't care what someone's race is. Why does anyone care what race you are?
@HDaviator
that's why we need him!
Vote for Ron Paul 2012 last hope for America
What does religion have to do with politics?
There is something wrong with Conservative Christians because they don't all support Mohammed. I get it.
/sarcasm -off
11:06
When the video gets to the tea party
Christian right is the equivalent of the EDL.
I lol'd at 4:25
Please be nice and respect other's opinions. I'm quite fond of friendly discussions, which simply cannot be achieved by disrespect and violence.
SuperGeneral64 When one finds another's opinion to be abhorrent, it hard to refute it without offending your delicate sensibilities.
@TexasFreedomFighter propoganda is always at its finest when it is based on facts and truth.
The Modern Day Tea Party was started in support for Ron Paul and these bastards hi-jacked it >:-I
Well done documentary...
@kingbeatsoz

@Loltochapel I agree on that sense.
@Mathenaut Partisan division is a fools game played by fools.

Hey hey, let´s all leave political differences aside for a moment and discuss the fundamental question here: how hot is the journalist?
I say a lot.
politics+religion=PANDORAS BOX
Ron Paul 2012
Good one 😂
Only 6-and-a-half minutes in, and I have *FACEPALM'd* far too many times... XD
The Founding Fathers were NOT CHRISTIAN. They would most likely have considered themselves Deist.
Also: SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. (DO YOU SPEAK IT?) D:
I can answer the question without watching the video: Too much of a role. It's pathetic.
Islam-derived hit piece.
