      Well the 350 was a SP which holds together better than a big open HP which was used for the 450 - so the 450 had a projectile that is designed to penetrate LESS than a SP. Had they both been SP the 450 would have cleared another wall, or had they both been HP, the 350 would have done about 2. SO the 450 is clearly more powerful, but both result in a dead deer and meat on the table!

    From researching the 350 Legend, it seems ballistically equal to the 30-30 with 150 gr bullet, and with the heavier bullet, pretty close to the 35 Rem. Not a bad thing. Apparently Winchester and other manufacturers are able to economize in tooling, since the case can be made on .223 Rem machinery, and the bullets can be made on 9mm machinery. So hopefully the factory ammo will cost less than common hunting ammo. I have always wanted a 35 Rem, so maybe i will get an upper for the Legend someday. Seems like a useful round, without a ton of flash or blast. I assume it is effective to 200 yds or so, possibly a little further, depending on bullet shape and aerodynamics. Not a bad envelope. I'll have to find one i can try out.

I realize shot placement has a lot to do with this but when I’ve seen the ballistics on these round the 450 can definitely reach out a further and still be quite lethal.

      Ballistically, the 350 legend companies to a 35 Remington not a 30-30.
      The 30-30 and 35 legend are different calibers with different types of cases and bullet weights. The 30-30 and 35 Remington are 130 year old designs and don’t work in AR platforms.

    • @blaws6684
      @blaws6684 4 роки тому

      Rich B agreed to a point. In terms of terminal ballistics the 350 L is closer to the 30/30 than 35 rem up to 150 yds with typical loads but still very different. All three are very effective at what they were made for. As for age who cares? A hammer is an ancient design but still drives a nail. As for the AR stuff , yeah ok they’re nice but most shooters will never ever own one or even shoot one for any number of reasons, from cost to legality. Mind you I have nothing against them at all except the excessive cost for back yard r&d (receive &duplicate) engineering. But I support your right to buy and own and shoot them. 2000% :) have fun

    • @richb2229
      @richb2229 4 роки тому

      B Laws Why it matters, both the 450 Bushmaster and 350 legend were designed specifically as straight wall cases for AR platform. AR platform is the most popular sporting platform today. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be unusual because we already have single shots, bolt actions and lever actions in 30-30, 35 Remington, 454 Casull, 45-70 government and so forth. And yes I have more traditional rifles than AR’s.
      The ballistics (ballistic coefficient) and sectional densities for the 30 caliber bullet the 30-30 uses are different than the .357 the Legend uses. So even if they started out near the same, the .357 bullet on the factory ammo will quickly fall behind. The now mostly defunct 357 maximum might be a better comparison but it was more a bit powerful than the Legend.

  • @garytrainer748
    @garytrainer748 4 роки тому +1

    Yeah, like the one fellow commented, one dead and one really dead. Lol. Little more energy from bigger round.(makes sense). But job done by both. I'm looking at it as the 350 still did the job but with less recoil and probably less expensive ammo. I'm assuming the 450 would have a greater drop at a distance? Then again both are what, 200 to 250 yard guns? So 450 is a great choice, but if you prefer less recoil the 350 will work almost as well. Thanks for the video! Good info.

    Same penetration; however the 450 transferred a greater amount of energy. And you can't transfer something you don't have which means the 450 has more energy upon impact even though the velocity is less. Because mass is important no matter how you slice it. Thanks for an interesting video that gets right to the point.

    I was gonna get a Ruger American in 308 today. Only problem was the gun store only had the 22” barrel black stock and I wanted a Ranch or Predator model cause I like the compact ones with threaded barrels better. They had a 7mm-08 in 22” barrel, and a 450 bushmaster ranch mode with factory muzzle brake and I had to have it. Ironically, the 450 bushmaster ammo was cheaper than 308 by almost $20 a box, so it’s win win

  • @genkile
    @genkile 3 роки тому +1

    I see one issue with the ammo you chose to use, the 450 was a solid brass jacket, where as the 350 was a soft tip, that changes up how each round disperses its energy on impact, need to do one with both rounds either soft tip or FMJ

    Am thinking of having my 357 mag rechambered in 357 MAX...which is a little more power than the 350 legend. It will do 1850 to 1900 out of my 10” barrel...my 357 Mag does 1350fps easy out of the 10” with a 180gr. Both the 350 and 357 Max are good hunting cartridges..It’s a shame the Max didn’t get more popular...but it is popular in TC and other single shots...which is what I shoot.

      If memory serves me correctly, I remember hearing something about the 357 maximum being discontinued due to the extreme pressures flame cutting through the top straps of revolvers (most commonly Ruger Blackhawks). They performed very well in the TC's though.

    • @kirkwhitaker6422
      @kirkwhitaker6422 4 роки тому

      @@justadbeer That is correct. Dan Wesson offered it also..but since gap is adjustable in the DW revolvers they didn't have as much issue. Elgin Gates came up with the idea for the 357 super mag...which had a case that was slightly longer than what the Max ended up being. When Remington came out with the 357 Max he told them it needed a little more length the keep it from flame cutting the forcing cone and top strap...at least that is what he wrote he did...and they made it shorter anyway. In a TC the Max has been very popular over the years. I may end up sending mine to Bellm and have him do a rechamber soon.

I know it doesn't fit the criteria of states allowing a straight bore cartridge for deer, But that's what my 3", 20 ga is for along with my 30-30, 30-06 and 270. What I do like about the 350 Legend is the price for ammunition and it looks like it could be an easy load to reload.

      I might be dead wrong on this cause I do not own an 350 Legend, and never shot one. But I do have the 450 BM. If I had to and if I did NOT own other guns like the 338 Win mag and a 308 Win etc..., I would not be afraid to take the 450 BM on something like a moose or elk hunt. I imagine and probably sure the 350 Legend is probably good caliber on deer and hogs, but not so sure if its a good caliber on huge game like moose and elk size animals.

If he was he probably be one of the king's of You-Tube videos on guns and calibers now days, with other American legends like John Browning etc..... Wonder what Jack O'Conner etc.... would think about these 2 newer calibers and many more new calibers now days ?

    I enquired about 350 ammo today and was told that due to the popularity of it and the fact it's new it means that in Canada we are probably 18 months to 2 years away from having reliable supply here. American demand must obviously be fulfilled first by ammo companies before considering supplying us up in Canuckistan.

    You sold me! I don't want either one. I don't get why BM uses a 1:24 twist rate. .458 SOCOM will be my hammer of choice. 704 Tact did one on .223/300BO/6.5G and one other I think. 300 BO smashed the blocks while the others just drilled them. If I'm shooting at block, I want a smashed block and not a peep hole. But honestly, a bare block isn't anywhere near as tough as a mortar bedded block in compression.

  • @AlanDike
    @AlanDike 4 роки тому

    Looks like the bushmaster dumped a LOT more energy into those blocks by the way it disintigrated the block. Both look quite solid in penetration

    Its nice you do these wildcat rounds.....Id be fun to see these in the water jug test..........FWIW, a 35 Whelen would be a round you might like......if your shoulder can take it.
    BTW, you have a lot of Ruger rifles.....how do you like the American after all this time?

    • @WHOTEEWHO
      @WHOTEEWHO  4 роки тому +1

      I wouldnt call 350 or 450 wildcat anymore. Pretty popular. I am a big Ruger American fan. Never had any problems (and I am sponsored by no one. Lol. Pay for them all with my own $$$) lots of fake salesmen out there

      @@WHOTEEWHO I like the Rem 783s but was looking at the Ruger American Ranch for the Bushmaster......
      I still call the 350 legend absolutely wild cat and the Bushmaster because of the LACK of ammo choices. My last rifle I went with the 35 Whelen because of the amount of ammo choices. Still high as giraffe ***** (I spent 70 bucks on a box of double tap 180 ttsx) and I still consider it a very much wild cat round. Yes they are much more mainstream now days(Of course they are not that old with the exception of the Whelen) but still only a couple of rifles made chambered in them and lack of ammo choices. I hope they hang around for awhile as I would like to have the Bushmaster, but its a wait and see game.

    I know you counted the 450 as 3...
    But it probably was only 2, it was just sheer power that blasted the 3rd part of the wall.
    I reckon yas were right, 2 and 3.
    Also, watch out for the dust caused from those cinder blocks.
    Silica dust is no joke. That shit is aweful, cancer causing like a mofo if you breath it in.

    looks like either one would hurt. the heft of the 450 makes up for the wide front so it gets good penetration. question is if a heavier 350 would make up for its moving slower. guess it might all depend on what its going thru.
