This story broke my heart tonight, especially for his wife, but also for your family. My deepest condolences and prayers for you all. Perhaps he’s now hiking in a far more beautiful place.
He went out in nature, amidst the mountains and 'neath a starry sky, instead of in a hospital bed next to another dude who's crapped himself with his wife and kids pestering him about who inherits what, vultures circling before his flesh is even cold. Sounds like a good way to go to me.
What a stud! I'm sorry for the loss but I'm not sorry he died doing something so very awesome that he clearly loved. He did it right. All the way through the end. I don't know him but I wish I had the chance to. He sounds absolutely amazing. ❤
You guys and your EIGHTY YEARS OLD!!! And hiking alone... i have two close friends in the 80s that would not be if i were to talk to them like they are twelve. They go where ever they want to go and when. That's the beauty of getting to that age. One still goes fishing on her own boat in the summer and out on the ice in the winter. The other goes and goes harder than most men half his age. We all are gonna leave this planet one way or another... and this man here went out doing what he loved, rip to the departed, and my condolences to the family.
@@ambrosemackinnon8314 You should have known better than to tell others they can't have solitude. The man accepted the risks and did something for himself and by himself; is that something you can comprehend or does your wife accompany you everywhere lest you stray and have a moment of solitary thought? She hold your hand when you're on the toilet, too, in case you have a heart attack and keel over?
Because he doesn't care anymore, probably. When you're old, you just want to enjoy the last bit of life. My grandparents are 97 and bedridden and miserable. They're ready to be dead but just aren't dead yet. Would it be better for him to be in that state?
@@Wft-bu5zc which state? certainly not california!! been lately? whata dump! and that Newsom...dork....Can run his own kitchen let alone a whole state...
Hiking at 80 doesnt matter if you are experienced or not. Its possible he had a medical event that caused him to fall. A medical event is moments away from any age, but more likely as we age. Doesnt make it any less tragic!Hopefully he wasnt alive when he fell. Those would be horrible last moments! Condolences to the family. Glad he was found!
That's sad, but if I were 80 I'd be happy to go that way.
Which way? dying of dehydration, torn apart by wild wolves, gored by hungry bugs? not me man....no way......
@@davidwright873 He fell.
@@annwe6 oh.
Very sad but better than dying in a nursing home
That's my uncle.. so sorry for his loss. May he rest in peace.
@@dr.rababgabr2704 my condolences to you and your family 🥺🙏
My condolences to your family. But at 70 I'd much rather go doing what I love and not suffer the indignities of hospitals etc. RIP dear soul.
Keeping all he left behind on earth!
I’m very sorry for you and yours loss.
God is with you!

I guess they think he should have safely preserved himself so he could die in a convalescent hospital instead.
Why can't you news people identify what State you are in? How are we to know where Big Cottonwood Canyon even is??? Frustrating.
Utah. Salt Lake City, more specifically.
@@Tirebouchon325 Thank you.
@@vivianduhart6638 I agree all these news clips need to clearly identify the network…
It is a local channel. Watch your own local news. 😊
My deepest sympathies 😢
Hiking alone at any age , but 80 ?
Lots of people do it because they want to be out in nature alone. And I know 80 year olds who are very active. He died doing what he loved to do.

So sorry for your loss. God be with you.
80 yrs is a long run, God Bless Him😓😇
Sorry for the loss, guy was a BOSS
80 years old gone hiking alone ..why go alone at that age.
Why would you bring your wife when you're clearly seeking peace and respite?

Deepest condolences to the family & friends.
Likely not a "fall" - if so respect to this man who died on his own terms.
Very possibly...
Bless him.
Never hike alone. Accidents happen all of the time. My prayers go out to his family.

80 year old hiker out by himself. Extremely il advised. Never go hiking by yourself. E V E R !
Been hiking, backpacking, camping, hunting alone my entire life, but then I’m only 69. Can’t imagine how deprived your life must be.
I always hike alone. It's a risk I'm willing to take. I'm an adult, not a toddler.
lol.
something tells me he had his act more together than you. Never tell everyone how to live - ever.
That walk off the cliff must be horrifying on the way down.
People, no matter the age or experience, should not go alone for their own safety.

An 80 year old should know better

Cottonwood....sounds so soft and easy on the feet. Like an excellent day hike....Not to be the case im guessing.
News anchor borrowed his 9 year old sons sport coat
80 years old, hiking alone... what could possibly go wrong?
Not a good hiker if you have no buddy:(
Solo hiking at such an advanced age is reckless, thoughtless, dangerous and irresponsible.
Must be Colorado.
@tommackay7433..
I think Utah…
Hiking, new deadly sport
That news anchor needs a new tailor for his suit coat.
Experienced or not the mountain is king and does not give a d@@n!
Very experienced, but you're 80 years old. Thats what you get.
If you know these are dangerous trails why even hike? Even the professionals have common sense. 🤷🏿♂️
Slipping in the tub is more common than falling off a mountain. Maybe you shouldn't bathe. It's too dangerous!
They are all well marked and maintained trails. Things just happen sometimes.
This is in Colorado i guess they dont say. Lol...
The hiker was pregnant?
Yes. The male 80 year old hiker was expecting twins...
