- Liverpool are closing in on a £27million move to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, making him their second transfer deal of the summer.
The 29-year-old Spaniard was not an active target for the Reds until Monday when talks were opened, and the player is expected to be officially unveiled shortly.
Liverpool.com's Joel Rabinowitz joins Blood Red's Matt Addison to react to the news, talking through how Thiago represents a change in approach for FSG, where the midfielder will fit into the starting XI, and what it means for Fabinho, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The deal is NOT dependent on Gini Wijnaldum leaving the club, so Jurgen Klopp has plenty of midfield options to pick from as the Premier League champions enter the next stage of their evolution.

Getting Thiago Alcantara into your squad means you won't lose to any team, possession wise, which leads u to getting a lot more chances of winning the league this season.
Man city could probs beat us in possesion although even without him in some games against city we ended up with more possesion or very close possesion stats.Against every other team we always usually had way more possession even without thiago.

Possession alone doesn't win matches, and certainly not the title. This is a really good signing to keep the squad fresh but I'd like to see Origi move on (I know, he's scored legendary goals...) and a deadly finisher signed - we still miss too many chances for me. Could you imagine an Alan Shearer or Ruud van Nistelrooy being serviced by Robertson, Alexander-Arnold and Firminho? My own view is that there is good cover at the back (OK, out of form a bit against Leeds) so I don't see the need to sign there and I hope the youngsters at the back develop across the next couple of seasons.

all I said there was not about guarantee but chances.
figuratively speaking, just because u have a lot of muscles doesn't mean u are stronger but the chances of your stronger are higher.
whoever dominates midline would more likely dominate possession of a game and that leads u to getting more odds of winning a game.

Finally at last we're getting him!! Speculation was getting tedious tbh. Not only will he spray the passes around to all our movement upfront, he is the type of player to beat the press when we play out from the back, he never loses the ball! What a baller we have!!

Totally agree had a look at naby and was surprised the fee was so high and also even more surprised at all the projected potential that was assigned to him so took another look at the his BL games and I couldn't nsee it being justified.... Win some lose some pray he comes out better... Jury still out.
Thiago is a lot more proven and more mature player so should acclimatise a lot better he's also a finished article.👍

He will be reserved for the biggest games. He has had some injury issues in recent years. They are likely targeting 30-35 starts for him. Maybe another 4-5 appearances off the bench in games where we are trailing or tied late.

mentioning about stats and not going to rack up impressive numbers, it's the underlying numbers that will be impressive, key passes, tackles and interceptions, pass accuracy (with regards to his range of passing), players beat with a pass, dribbles, times he beats opposition press. Also to see him adapt his game to the Klopp system, how many pressures per game does he make, his distance travelled per game. Those are the sorts of stats that our midfield is all based around

This is a spectacularly deep team. You could hope for one additional real goal threat up top and to move Shaq on perhaps ... that's the only improvement possible.
