The Girl With A Brogue, Ada Jones 1873-1922.

Flip of my previous posting & also from the 1909 musical 'The Arcadians' 'Brogue' refers to the Irish accent & not the formal lace up shoe! Ada sings this with such an accent & was indeed skilled at singing in several dialects. Played on my Dulcetto cabinet gramophone.

I had trouble with the lyrics too, despite having visited Ireland twice & hearing Irish accents from time to time here in England. Old recordings can also be a bit unclear. Have a nice day too my friend!!!!!!

A record by Ada Jones! I've never listen other thing than a cylinder by her! Ihad trouble with some of the lyrics. Fun thing is I have some Irish ancestry . My mother, brother and I took an Ancestry DNA test and turned out that I do have a 4 % of Irish and a 3% of Welsh, mother has too and even a little of Scotish! I thougt she would be all from Spain and of course Mexican .That only could came to me from her side because my father was all Spain.

She also made discs, but as far as I know, not all got pressed in the UK. Family ancestry is so interesting. Wonder where your mother got that mix from? Will have to take the test myself.

The same for me as Jytte. It was a bit difficult to understand. My dad's parents were from Scotland and it was difficult for me to understand what my grandfather was saying many times. 😊

Yes indeed. Have had problems with the Scottish accent & their idioms, as they've sometimes had trouble with mine.
