  • Tim Keller sermons via Gospel in Life: Our modern age scorns the wisdom of the past, but have the fruits of our physical and philosophical sciences progressed us toward fundamental human happiness? i'm a ministerial student and going through a hard time finding my identity..i've spent the whole night listening to timothy keller sermons. all i can say is that in every sermon I hear timothy pushing his listeners to greater relationship with God. That's the key. theres nothing that can compare to seeking the Lord and making Him your only source..all other wells run dry only in God are we satisfied.

Listening to this again as we enter into the autumn with the current pandemic reminds me of how much strength we have to draw from when the apparent worldly wisdom falls so short. Father God thank you for your servant Dr. Tim Keller. Please continue to heal him from his cancer so that your word can be brought to more people during these trying times.

9:20 most of us think happiness is natural.
    12:30 young charmed life
13:10 bible says happiness is neither natural or unachievable.
14:30 the happy is like a tree.
16:00 happiness never consists of in what happens to you, but in what you are.
16:56 a Godly person is not just a religious person. A Christian is somebody who’s been planted and rooted into something beside than him/herself

Fell asleep to Tim's sermons as I often do, closed the laptop lip at some point in the very early hours, come back from work at the end of the day lift up lid starts playing from 23mins automatically: wow, Tim lays it down

Tingo Wealeans, this is so weird. I slept through most of this talk with my headphones on, face stuffed under a pile of blankets. Wake up, everyone else has gone to bed, heat up dinner, thought I'd just press play from where I was - boom - 23 minutes in and I hear everything I need to hear. This is so great

19:28 smile and bear it, church, un-biblical, brainwashing, vs going deep to fundamental happiness. Stimulated by tragic circumstances. 22:25 your allegiances. 27:20 either God exists or He doesn't exist. 27:58 what basis do you come? It's not a trick. 32:30 what has you? Where are you sitting, besides in God's lap. 36:44 that IS how I dealt with life! Still breaking that habit.

God uses Tim Keller to clear the cobwebs in our Christian hearts. Please continue to pray for healing from Tim’s cancer so we may continue to glean from the wisdom the Holy Spirit imparts to Tim even through his sickness during this pandemic. I can only imagine how deeply his roots are reaching down into that river these pasts months. Blessed is the man indeed! And may you be blessed continually.

God is so gracious in His mercies towards me. I so needed to hear this right now. Facing hard truth that I have been a co-dependent and struggled to understand why my life has been unhappy. This helped me face the truth that the seat I was in was truly not God's. The last few months I feel like I am just waking up to who God is in my life and finally walking in His righteousness in the hard. I can't change the past but my King is now my Father... thank you for your ministry and placing the sermons online!

I'm 37 and I've always been miserable. I don't see that changing especially since I've been reading the Bible for almost a year in an effort to know God. It's like my life for worse and it's a constant up and down. I'm pissed. I didn't ask to exist. If God wants me so holy then why am I still this way (all the ways the Bible describes unholiness)? I don't get it. I am not capable of praising the Lord when I'm homeless and denied basic human needs. I'm angry. And now that I'm not homeless, I'm still unhappy. This is just one example. I don't understand God. I hope He picked me, because there is literally nothing in me that leads me to believe I'll ever really love Him. Not because I don't want to, but I am a wretched human and incapable of "choosing His righteousness over my so called happiness".

I'm sorry this is happening to you. :( That sounds really hard. You're right, you can't choose His righteousness. That's where the Gospel comes in - Jesus Christ died to take away that guilt and shame, to make you clean before God. I'm saying a quick prayer for you now...

      Pamela...
Not to seem patronizing, flippant, or oversimplifying... but this is in alignment with the stages of God showing you who you are -so that you have the correct perspective of Him. Without going into exorbitant details, a dozen years of my life went into that very thing but when he brought me forth from that, it was that emphasis of conviction and understanding that could not have been demonstrated (proven) to me in a lesser way.
With all the various manifestations of nominal belief that masquerade themselves as saving faith, the rigor of the description of your experiences are the grounding of solid foundation.
So many nonchalant or incomplete erroneous perspectives of God abound, but as I've said and slang expression to others, "God ain't playing".
In a strangely paradoxical manner, I would say, "take heart" because you're already in farther arena than many people who have "been saved" for a decade... and know not many of the things that you are lamenting.
...But you must pray for perseverance because that's what is being demonstrated to you that is crucially needed.
It's obviously not something you can "muster" on your own and that's the whole point.
**That's where many people believe "faith" comes from..... but as they find out, it's not saving faith when it comes from them.
      God bless (earnestly)

What can bring us happiness along with the search for such have become national obsessions for many people. Many people would do so much in the name of obtaining happiness or at least getting closer to such. What does Jesus and the Bible have to say about happiness in the midst of all this?
First and foremost, the Bible doesn't promise us happiness or prosperity even though it does provide wisdom people can use. We are in fact called to believe in Jesus Christ and follow Him at all costs. We are to seek Him first rather than be like many people who claim Jesus brings them joy but have sought happiness first and tried to fit Jesus into their own plans and views for happiness.
Many people and popular culture attempts to portray Jesus as a meek prophet who preached peacefulness and finding happiness while being peaceful. Jesus Christ was the opposite as He wasn't just a prophet but claimed to be God, preached that the Kingdom of God would be violently instituted fully one day, and stated happiness could only be achieved by surrendering any need along with sense of entitlement for it!
