Imagine you're playing Baldurs Gate when you're a kid, you fall in love with it, and you become a game designer. With 35 people you make a hit, DOS1, then DOS2, which are your own versions of this love you played as child. At this point you grew to 450 employees worldwide, and you can finally go to present yourself to the creators of your childhood best memory. Ask them if you can continue the story. This game feels like a gift to us gamers, DnD and RPG fans alike.

I've had no issues with my game. Played for over 100 hours so far and currently at the end of Act 3. The only bug I've seen is a floating glass at one point, which has since been patched.
Well said. We all need to get behind companies like larian who choose to do things right when the easy and profitable thing would be to cut corners and screw the consumer.
@@GenericInternetter Yeah theres been a few great ones this last year. BG3, Hyper Demon, Dwarf Fortress, Stray (Might have been a bit over a year ago, cant remember). I'm told Starfield is really fun, but havent gotten around to it yet (Need to finish off my BG3 run first).

It’s a massive game which has tone of replay value and you are getting the full experience with only one payment so if you really can’t understand the difference between a game that is made to make players pay as much as possible compared to this then I think you just haven’t played enough games…

I thought at 48 I had gotten to old for games. Week of ownership and I have 70 hours played. You have made a masterpiece and corrected my thinking. I am a gamer. It has been the games that have lost their way. Game of the decade for me with out a doubt. Thank you so much Larian for delivering a true masterpiece.

I was a kid when I played BG1 and BG2. Now, more than 20 years later, Larian gives life to the miracle that Black Isle created. Kudos to all involved in creating this amazing game!
Black Isle didn't 'give life' to Baldur's Gate. Bioware developed the original Baldur's Gate video games. Black Isle only published them. And before that Baldur's Gate is part of the Forgotten Realms Dungeons and Dragons setting. So... you know, give credit where it is due.

Larian I will NEVER be able to thank you enough for reviving my childhood. I've waited over 20 YEARS for this day. I turn 30 tomorrow too, and man... I remember getting 8 cds on the original games back in the day... Now I'm probably going to be sobbing like a baby when I enter that city again.

Thank you Larian Studios for single-handedly restoring my faith in Dungeons & Dragons and the video game industry. I haven't been this excited to play a game since Burning Crusade.
Your love of your craft and commitment to quality is something every developer should strive for and as a gamer whose been swindled many times by AAA games over the last decade, I WILL be holding them to this standard moving forward.
Why would it give you faith in an entire industry if one studio manages to put in some actual effort?

Dungeons and dragons is garbage. It's a way to put fantasy into paper and worked well back in the day. Today, now that we can afford actual simulation, its flaws and limitations are crystal clear. All the combat systems based on dnd suck ass and I have played hundreds of hours of stuff like poe and pathfinder. It's just an outdated system. No way they would have gone through with it if it wasn't for the original brand name and the need to appeal to the nostalgic niche. Also, the fact of having predetermined classes is bad for ANY game as it limits exploration and subclasses are designed to either work or not, especially if you play at the highest difficulty possible. It's a system based to enjoy a game and roleplay, not having a challenge and therefore translates really poorly for half of the playerbase while the other half wouldn't even have cared what system was used to begin with

Spent the last few weeks play Divinity 2 as a warm up for this game, could not be more excited
From the moment I saw this game was in early access I knew it wouldn't disappoint. I congratulate everyone at Larian Studios for their passion and effort put into the game -- it really did pay off!! Also, all the work they've put in the game is sure to make a bigger profit than most games. So yeah they're in it for the profit. This game also makes them triple A developers. There's nothing but profit headed their way. To say they weren't in it for the profit at all is completely asinine, though I can forgive your gamer enthusiasm in thinking Larian studios isn't just another business trying to make money.

I’ve been an avid gamer since the crowds around space invaders, in my 50’s now 😅 I must say that I bought into early access at the very start having loved BG2 Shadows of Amn. I played the early access once ‘till the end of what is now act 1, and then just followed the news feeds as Larian progressed with their development.
I have to say that although I’m still on act 1, with content familiar, and new! That this game was well worth the wait! This independent studio has really crafted a piece of work that will stand the test of time! I am so thankful that I can play this absolute masterpiece of a game! You have really done yourselves proud with this, you have stayed true to the name of Baldurs Gate with a fantastic storyline, believeable characters that both enthral and beguile. Sensational graphics, fantastic musical score… I could go on… and I know I have! But I would also like to add that you kept true to your objective, to make your players very happy with what they got for their hard earned cash, although I’m still on act 1, I’m already thinking about what I’ll do my next run as!
I’m going to enjoy this game now, while you guys at Larian decide what you’re going to do next… And when you do, I’ll put a bit of support your way again in early access, because this was well worth it!

Played Baldur's gate since the beginning so was nervous it wouldn't be done right. Bought the divinity series to see what you were all about and that gave me some confidence you could pull this off. Bought on early access and was blown away by chapter 1. The full game is just WOW - this is a masterpiece. Feels like old times but plays like tabletop and Skyrim had a baby. Worth the wait and then some.
This is the most spot-on description I've seen. I absolutely loved the originals and was worried myself. But they did an amazing job.

Bought it right after launch. I never pay full price for a game and always wait for a sale. I don't even have the time and patience to play video games anymore. But I buy this game at full price even though I'll never finish it just because you deserve it. It is insane what you accomplished, the sheer scope of it, the production value. Everything.
How do you know the game deserves it if you never played/never gonna finish it?
@@As-tray because of all the stuff they put in there. You have a metric ton of d&d rules in there without dumbing them down and they actually work quite well in the game (from what I've seen when friends played the Early Access). With six party members and crazy D&D magic and the many solutions the game enables you to take for solving problems, the sheer complexity of keeping this playable is mind-blowing to me.
The world looks very alive, the graphics are awesome for a CRPG. All text, and with all the choices and the huge scope of the game there is a lot of it, has been fully recorded by voice actors. I don't know how familiar you are with the genre of CRPGs but that is very rare - and in a CRPG of that unprecedented scale almost unthinkable. That's a herculean task in itself.

@@cheesy_87 all of this has already been done in tons of crpgs though. And actually, unlike them, BG3 uses 5e, which is a very dumbed down DnD version itself. Also, level cap in the game is 12 (which is quite low) and the party limit in the game is 4, not 6.
So I don't know where you got your info from, but the only thing that really distinguishes BG3 from say, Pathfinder, is a bit prettier visuals and voiced dialogues. And latter were already done in DAO and DAll, so nothing ground-breaking here as well.
@@As-tray I played a lot of CRPGs. Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 were my favourite games growing up, and also some of the first real games I ever played, and that's when they were still new and state of the art. I also prefer Pathfinder to 5e system-wise, I actually never played any D&D at a table. I am running a Pathfinder campaign that started before Corona and that's still going strong (and we already switched to 2e at my players request and after being pretty sceptical, I now love running games a lot in 2e for its more dynamic gameplay).
I am totally amazed by how they managed to port the tabletop experience into BG3. And I have no problem with it being D&D, even though the static action system makes combats a bit annoying sometimes if you're used to Pathfinder's three action system.
I also played the first Pathfinder CRPG and Owlcat did a very fine job with that. They just lost me with the kingdom management. And the characters weren't as interesting as the ones in BG3. I haven't played Path of the Righteous yet (purchased it, though) but I only heard good things about it. I probably won't play it any time soon as my computer gaming days are far behind me and I just can't find the time to sit in front of the PC for hours on end. There's too much other stuff to do as a grown-up, and too little time for all hobbies. The 20 hours I already sank into BG3 is a huge amount of time for my standards, and I enjoyed it thoroughly up until now.
I still stand by what I've said. It's about the sheer scope that this game brings. I don't care about the level cap to level 12, the game is already gigantic. And I rather have three companions with very well done characterization and story arcs than 5 that are still pretty good but not as well done as in BG3. Also, managing 6 characters with all the options you have in combat (which is a lot more than in other CRPGs) sounds like a chore - and TTRPGs are best balanced for a party of four anyways so I'm more than okay with it being 4 players.
You have so many options to solve problems in BG3 and so much freedom, I really like the dialogue options and that your class and ancestry really matters. Other games did it too, but from what I played, no game did all of these things altogether, at a bigger scope, and managed to be still playable. To me, it's absolutely special, very immersive and incredibly well put together.
You truly have set the bar. The bar of what a game company should be and what they can strive for. This game and the love you put into it are beautiful to behold.

You did it guys. You freaking did it. The game is amazing and a true successor to the original BG1 and BG2 games which I played and loved. All I ask now is that you do not abandon this game but that you break with (your) tradition and release at least one or two expansions that add new campaigns and take character levels to 20. Do it while you are "in the zone" of this game and make history. If you do that this game will be remembered for generations. :)

New campaigns hell yeah! But at D&D level 20, the player and the corresponding villains become too chaotic for a video game. Scripting and covering for every possible odd choice will be almost impossible. Larian said they could not even integrate a simple sounding 'magic breaking' spell because of so many game mechanics it would break and push the story out of script.

Sometime ago i was really in bad psychic condition... My Dad died, my life is misserable and i was really desperate to commit (u know what) but...
- i played early access bg3 and i was so excited about it...
then i started to feel really bad and every evening i was thinking about ending my life... but then i realised when i do this, i wont be able to play this game in full... so i waited and it was only thing that kept me here... When i launched it in full version i started crying... Thank u Larian !

I've never played a game like this before... always been a action adventure type gamer. Your story trailer along with watching a guy playing it and explaining the mechanics so well in early access.
I was fortunate to play 2 hours of it in early access and can't wait. However playing on PS5 is more my style of gaming so I'll will be waiting until next month.

The best thing about BG3 is that you can play BG1 and 2 in the meantime! While they are old games number 2 is one of the greatest games of all time.

I honestly didn't expect the dev's to offer more then BG2 being that game was 2D and a LOT easier to code/animate....but no, looks like not only have they matched the insane detail of BG2 but they've combined it with the prior Divinity 2 work... It's downright uncanny how much effort they've put into getting everything right.

The sheer size and scale of EA was wonderful, and I can't wait to finally play it. From what I've played and seen, Larian has raised the bar for TB-RPGs, a massive crowning achievement after the excellent D:OS2.

not just Tbrpgs but all Games in general. a commitment to providing an excellant game experiance without trying to milk the fanbase for every nickle and dime. hopefully this game does well and show that one can put earnest work into a game and provide it once more without practicing scummy microtransaction practices that is plagueing todays games.
@@plaxy100 half a million playing within the first 24 hours. Probably a decent amount of which are Early Access players coming back, but still a solid metric.
I also want to thank the Larian studios as a whole for this love letter to the fans. It's most appreciated and I'm gonna put a lot of hours into this masterpiece. Also I just learned that Larian studios was on Microsoft radar to be purchased and I'm so glad that they sayed no, fearing that money would be the driving force instead of freedom and creativity. You have my respect for that decision. I hope you guys will remain independent and continue to show the industry that their is an other way, a better way... The Larian way
Yea I heard about that leak of studios MS was thinking of buying out and how Larian was on there and even commented saying they wouldn't be interested. That's fantastic. I say that as someone that loves gamepass (PC gamepass specifically) but I would much rather they stay fully independent.

i´m just here to say thank you for this Masterpiece, the music, the narrator, the story, the great feel of the game, everything. I bought this 3 years ago on steam and i had no idea if this will turn out well, but wow - thx to the whole team for this - hope there is more to come in the future
too bad that they spent half of the money on promotion instead of fixing the game and making it available for everyone.
woke up right at 8am from the excitement of launch day! i couldnt sleep! six years in development and nearly three of those six in early access, i thank you larian and everyone who made this game possible! im sitting here waiting for the game to finish downloading and i cant wait to sink so many hours into this phenomenal game!
Divinity: Original Sin 2 was and still is one of the very few games that feel near-perfect. And I'm all in for this!
I hope they keep uptade and add new contents to old games
growing up, i had a friend who was REALLY into Baldur’s Gate 2. it seemed huge, and i got the general idea, but thought i was satisfied with just Final Fantasy or other jrpg’s. but then jrpg’s changed. now Final Fantasy is an action game with less rpg elements then God of War.
i got Baldur’s Gate 3, and my mind is blown. this is what i have been waiting for. it has blown my mind. now i am definitely going to be picking up a copy of Divinity 1 + 2 on steam. holy shit. this game is incredible and i just wanted you to know how much i love it. it’s an entire D&D campaign with or without friends to play it with.
This game is insanely detailed. Endless amounts of choices and consequences. I enjoyed the hell out of early access, and I wasn't even near completing just act 1 lol.
I've been waiting SO long for this game and I'm so damn excited to finally play it in its full glory. We salute you, Larian.
*Review after 25 in-game hours*
In the lead up to the PS5 release, I deliberately avoided 99% of pre-release footage, 3rd party content etc (even to the extent of unfollowing Larian’s social media) so I could go in to BG3 blind and without any pre-existing ideas or opinions floating around in the back of my head - mine or anyone else’s. I watched a BG2 “complete story” video as a refresher on the universe and the game that took a piece of my video-gaming heart over 20 years ago.
To cut a long story short: believe the hype. This game is a masterpiece and has lived up to and in many cases exceeded what I dared to hope for after watching the official trailers (one of the few things I actually allowed myself to watch before playing). What more can I say other than I’ve been playing this almost non-stop since it released on the PS5 a few days ago. Games that you truly get excited about playing are a rare thing nowadays and should get all of the accolades and flowers they deserve.

Larian!! I am so happy for you! This is an AMAZING game! I have been along for the ride since EA launch. I fell in love with Baldur's Gate 3 then and am still in love with it now. I know. I know...that sounded creepy and I digress. I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all your hard work and dedication that went into this game! And screw all the other game devs that are trying to poo poo on your parade!
I wish more devs and publishers had this level of craftsmanship towards their games. Larian leading the way, FTW!

Having spent way to much of my childhood going through BG1, BG2, Throne of Bhaal (and a bit of Icewind Dale), I was a bit worried. But you guys fucking aced it. You cared, and then you created something that doesn't just live up to the originals, but at the same time is strong enough to bring it into a new decade. Thank you for reviving Baldurs Gate. And thank you even more for doing it well, without loot-boxes, microtransactions, and other predatory measures. You guys have my full support.
