Jesus' death is actually one of my favorite moments in the series, seeing a walker dodge him and stab him in the back blew my mind after 8 and a half seasons of them being dummies! Also I believe Gabriel accidentally slam the cell's door without locking it as he stormed out and that other guy also failed to double check it.
Gabriel has always had probems wit locking doors! Whether it was locking his congregation out, or when Spencer asked him to shut and lock Alexandrias front door!

I remember seeing that happen and being so caught off guard and I really wanted to see if that would've happened to you or if you would've pieced together that he would've died that episode. Damn trolls!! Anyway I love how this episode builds up and adds up the pieces one after one starting with the small heard walking in circles and ending with Jesus dying (R.I.P). And like you said now we have to worry about walkers again!

but doesn't necessarily fit since the gov. was "deposed" when tara was around him and he never said that in her presence.
This season had two time jumps by this point. That would put Negan in that cell for 7 and a half years at this point.
